I couldn't find it either. I resorted to the golfing department. They use it to balance clubs and it is just slightly shiner but it is sticky back and works well. I know you didn't ask me but sometimes the 3M is difficult to find. Hope this helps. Sean

Hey Davie, You can buy catgut for clocks in different diameters, the old vienna regulators, and others. It would be much more material for much less money. You can buy a 0.8 mm cable for 22.00 U.S.D. and some a little more or less depending on the diameter. The color you used is natural. I would suppose permanent markers would work very well so long as it is not waxed catgut. Just a tip, I don't like to spend more than I have to on anything. Sean

Hello Davie ! As said below, another great video and another great nymph, I'll tie several ones this evening and try them monday morning ! I just have a question, where do you find pheasant tail hackles with very long fibers, such as the ones you've got ? I've looked over the internet and didn't find any, even in fishing tackes stores the fibers are always short, and for the pheasant tail (for example), I'd need long ones for big nymphs. Best regards, Fabrice

Hi davie.... Another excellent pattern which i will tie and use at my local lake. I am looking to upgrade my vice and I was wondering which vice you use? Also have you any other vice's you would recommend for a myself. I tie awide range of flies from salmon double and trebles all the way down to the smallest of dry flies. This information would be of great help and much appreciated as I am relatively new to fly tying. Keep up the good work. Cheers

Davie, after watching this video, I ordered some catgut and just finished tying some caddis pupa. They look great. They have a spitty, meaty look to them when wet. I was wondering, do they last through several wet/dry cycles, or do they just rot in your fly box once you wet them and a couple fish work them over? Also, the material looks identical to biodegradable sutures, which seem to be cheaper per volume than catgut biothread on ebay.

Hi handcannon, I've had some in my box now for a good couple of years which I have fished with and they seem ok to me but I do go through them as they fish really as you will find out...I did a search for the biodegradable sutures and they do a colour very similar to the catgut so it would be very interesting to try some.. All the very best Davie...

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if I should only tie four or five and keep the rest of the material for later. Since there isn't a high likelihood of some kind of spoilage after being rehydrated, I think I'll tie a dozen; four each in three color patterns. That should give me an idea if I like them, and they look like they will devastate the panfish and trout. I never did make it over to Keogh Farms; even though I am only a little over an hour away from there. If I do, I'll put in a good word for you. Your skills and endorsement would no doubt boost sales.

Hi handcannon, I would only tye a few as you may want to tweek the pattern to fish either deeper and change the colour of the thorax or something like that..I do have Keogh Saddles which I like to use on a few loch style patterns.. All the very best Davie...

Hi Davie, First, I wanted to say I know I have commented on A LOT of your files. But that is because I LOVE THEM!! You are one of the best tiers that I know! I hope that some day I will be able to tie like you! Secondly, I was wondering what color Gossomer Silk you used. I can not find just plain yellow. I can find Amber, Gold, Lemon Yellow, and Primrose Yellow. Lastly, What type of dubbing did you use (both for the gills and for the thorax) Thank you, NCISGibbs84

Thanks, Davie... When you stripped the partridge, I noticed the stem peeled off... almost never happens to you, but always happens to me and then wrapping can be a problem. Do you have a way of stripping the excess that almost always leaves a complete stem? Mike

Hello Davie. Great looking caddis there mate. You said you can tie them on other sizes of hooks. Can you use size 8 scud hooks? Just wondering because I got some off ebay here a couple days ago. Thanks for sharing my friend. Best Regards, Ken

Davie, what size catgut did you use on this fly? I bought them all so I could tie these. I am now an official tying addict! Love it. Someday I may even get to fish my own. Some of the flies I have learned here, other fishermen from my Church have been buying from me. Can you believe it? 6 mos. tying and I am already selling. I hate to see them go sometimes, but I can re-tie them. Not selling the Olive sedgehog bumble though. ;-) All the best to you. Sean

Hi Ron, I just tyed some traditional wet flies which work really well for Grannom Caddis fly, I was going to film them but just never got round to it..One called the Greensleeves and the other is a small Partridge Bloa work as a team when the Grannom are coming off..So I would certainly recommend tying unweighted wets for caddis..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie

Good job as always, Davie. Have you tried soaking the whole catgut before tying? It dilates a little bit, becomes easier to wind on, and gets back to its natural properties once dry. +1 for Troutline.ro Best regards from Portugal João

Hi Tom Jenni, I have used v-rib but more on bigger flies as what I had was quite thick. The catgut though does work really well as I've had many a fish pick it out since I started to use it... All the very best Davie

@@DavieMcPhail thank you very much 🙏 "La Perdrix Brune", in french )) Devaux fly LTT 01 may have some. That is one of the first nymph I fished with 3 years ago. Since my last com under your video I became addict to that Pupa 🤪, in any french river, with any Fish !!! (With LTT 01) My imitation didn't use Brown Partidge but long Brown hare "hair". I fished with mines and Devaux one's. Quite the same result but not yet... I hope that difference is only in Brown Partidge 🙏😉🤣🤞 🙏 Davie 🙏
