Nice one Vladimir!! Just so happens that this morning I was out for a walk and a snowshoe rabbit made the mistake of thinking I hadn't seen him - so I invited him home for dinner and we will be tying flies together as well. :-) Thanks for posting - added this pattern to the "to be tied" list! Cheers! Hank

🤣🤣🤣🤣 And how was the dinner? Thank you, glad you liked it
@hankvana21495 жыл бұрын
@@Oholisfliesandfishing Dinner was excellent - feet are pinned out for drying. Below freezing temperatures and 10 cm of ice on my beaver pond! I've tied a couple odd flies but the real fly tying season starts after Christmas!

@@Oholisfliesandfishing I must have been good this year - Santa brought 6 EMPTY fly boxes - now I have to get to work filling them! One box will be for dry flies - I am really liking this pattern and think it will be ideal for the waters I fish. The smallmouth bass have absolutely NO respect and will brutalize a fly and the panfish (bless their tasty bodies) slobber all over flies so I need a pattern that will stand the abuse and still float well. Think that this pattern, heavily tied, will make a nice bulky fly that these (uncouth) fish prefer. Might even add more tail (splayed) and a coarse dubbed body, apply floatant to the whole thing and use it as a soft-bodied popper. Cheers! Hank

Thank you Torben, use it for some faster water and you will love it. This exact fly is for very rough waters, for normal rapids just use half of the rabbit foot hairs i used.

Thanks for watching. Snowshoe is an amazing material. Underrated for unknown reasons.... If used in different colours i think it beats deer and elk hair.

That was awesome Vladimir! Thanks for all the tips on the thread, dubbing & taper, and the wing construction and handling the foot. I like ss foot for wings, mostly for Betters" Usual and some other flies. I have lots of feet, not enough to open a "shoe store", lol, but all are natural. I have some that were harvested early season before they went into the white color phase so they're both brown and white hairs. I got them from a local baker that's an avid hunter besides making awesome bread and pastries, pays to buy local :o) Thanks, hope all is well with you and yours!

It now Baetis time on our river and I was wondering how small you would tie this fly using the snowshoe rabbit for a wing. Thanks very much
@Oholisfliesandfishing4 жыл бұрын
I was tying snowshoe down to sizes as small as 24. Its way more visible with snowshoe and its more buoyant resistant to teeth... So.... Good choice for tiny flies
@rjf18774 жыл бұрын
@@Oholisfliesandfishing That's great, thanks for the reply, do you make any modification to how you dress these smaller flies ? Do you still add the polypropylene ? It sure does help to use the Nano Silk ! Thanks again, stay healthy.
@Oholisfliesandfishing4 жыл бұрын
@@rjf1877 it mostly depends on how small i tie. If the fly is smaller than 18 or 20 i usually keep it very simple. For small flies... 20-16 it depends on my mood.... If i am into details and extra steps than i add some details.... But its for my satisfaction doesnt have to do with catch rate... 🤣
@rjf18774 жыл бұрын
@@Oholisfliesandfishing Thanks Vladimir, just one more question if you don't mind, on the #20 and smaller dries, do you use any body material or just use a thread body ? Thanks much !

@@rjf1877 usually just the thread. Dubbing the thread for too small flies can be challenging and its unnecessary so i tend to skip it

What is that tail material? How do you spell it?
@Oholisfliesandfishing4 жыл бұрын
Cdl, coq de leon. Spanish rooster feather. It has stiffer barbules so it supports fly better. And it looks great
@jimslade3 жыл бұрын
Why not utilize snowshoe for the tailing material
@Oholisfliesandfishing3 жыл бұрын
Its too curved... More appropriate for the trailing shuck. Personally i prefer straight CDL barbs. But as you said... Snowshoe will serve some purpose too.
