I have my driving license for 3,5 year now and because of this and some other videos I think I might just understood that speed isn't everything. In fact it can be minor factor now. Feel, look, sound, even smell. Everything is more important than speed for me now when it comes to enjoying the drive. I think I understood it quite fast (I'm 21 now) and I'm very happy of that. I can enjoy the drive without the risk of receiving the ticket.

I've had 2 914s, my current one is a 2.0 L 73. Love it. I replaced the fuel injection with carbs and it doesn't have any computers talking to each other in the engine or anywhere else. It is a minimalist's dream. The cranks on the windows have never failed me(unlike my past 350z electric windows). I can trouble shoot some things myself. I am 60y.o. and am amazed at how many younger guys who don't know the car come up to me in stores and ask about it.

I loved mine! I suppose it was nothing special by the numbers (especially as mine was just a humble 1.7...c. 80bhp, not a lot even for sub-2000lbs), but it was as capable at putting a big, dopey grin on my face as anything I've ever driven. Fantastic feedback from the tires...like having nerve endings in the contact patch.
@Wolfmots5 жыл бұрын
I had one in the early 90's. Installed a 911 dash, gauges, 928 turbo wheels, kyb's, fat swaybar, updated the fuel injection to twin webbers, 4 point harness. Most fun I had ever had in a car, vastly underrated vehicle in my opinion. Could turn on a dime, sounded great, sitting on the ground. Only downside was the rear flex of the car in turns, when pushed the suspension structure would flex unpredictably and could send the rear heavy car into a spin or off into the woods if you weren't careful. Easy fix nowadays with boxed slip ons that eliminate the flex. Wouldn't be surprised to see them become the next big thing in classics as well as the Mercury Cougar.

I love how 70% of the porsches are still running on the road
@UbERRetroGamer84325 жыл бұрын
It's almost as if Porsches are desirable automobiles and regular maintenance to keep them roadworthy is incentivised in order to justifiably command the fairly silly numbers they are valued at. Radical stuff, I know.

I love Porsches and I have 3 of them 70 914 and 80 83 911s. I think however that the newer ones will drag down that statistic over time. The newer ones are too complex for the average weekend mechanic or kid to work on. Nothing beats the air cooled simplicity of an old Porsche.
@thegarytull4 жыл бұрын
@@wadesbrain People have been saying that since the advent of fuel injection. Now it's easier to work on a 90s or early 2000s car than find someone who can synch carbs, timing, and do air-cooled engine valve adjustments. I think otherwise regarding new Porsches. I can't wait in 20 years for all of the modern 992 & 718s to reach the depths of depreciation to be able to modify their turbos and make silly power. By then they'll likely be slow compared to the electric cars we may have but that's progress for you. For example modern 911s's are more powerful, faster, and more comfortable than a 996 Turbo
@mcshackelford38783 жыл бұрын
83% of all statistics are made up on the spot. ;) Seriously I don't know about 70% still being on the road, but I would believe that 70% have been or are being restored, saved or stored for future restoration to get them back on the road. Very friendly community of enthusiasts who are willing to help others who share their passion.

I was smitten. 45yrs and 2x 911's, a 944 S2, a 928 S4 & 2x Cayennes later, i'm still smitten with the 914 and would love to find one. Hard to find here in NZ, but I'm going to try. Beautiful example here, green with envy. Saved to library so I can see & hear it when the urge beckons.

I’ve owned many Porsches over the years and the best of the best are the old 4 bangers - the 356, the 914, the 912, 924 and 944 because you can put your foot into it, take a fast corner, feel on the edge, all while staying within the speed limit! I don’t want to be a criminal to enjoy driving a car on the edge; good luck doing that in a GT3.
@JTMP125 ай бұрын
I’ve had three 914s, 968, 944S, 928S, Boxster S, and driven countless 911s. The 914 is by far the most fun to drive Porsche I have driven. Not the most comfortable nor practical but the fun factor is off the chart. Cheap (at least used to be), reliable, easy maintenance, tons of luggage space, good fuel economy, these cars are amazing.
@jamesiverson209Ай бұрын
Remember driving a friend's 914 in college. The responsiveness the car had turning into a corner was amazing. There are also players in the market now who can get interesting levels of power out of the 4-cylinder engines in these cars. Combined with a weight around 2000 pounds, I could see a 914 being really quick.

My first car was a 1975 914 1.8 liter Totally rotted out. Belonged to a Texas surfer. It sat in a garage for 10 years before I decided to sell her. Sold it to a dude in Alpine Texas for $500. He fixed it up and raced it for a long time. Then sold it to someone in Alpine Texas, where it continues to roll. I am happy I decided to save that old rust bucket. More than likely it would have be thrown into a car shredder. I Love the sound of your 914! I currently drive almost daily a 924 Turbo S2. It's my rolling restoration project. It's not perfect but it's nice and it runs well. Hope to find myself anothe 914 to have someday? Godspeed to you Sir!

What a story, I love people like this. You want to own a car like that to enjoy it, drive it, and make so many memories with the car. The 914 always to me was that “push to the end” car. Throughout its life it will always put a smile on your face until the end.

I used to have a 76' 914/4 2.0 that I found listed for sale in my local paper in the 90's. It was painted Toyota gold and was originally orange. It had a rust hole in the floor and developed the common problem of the rusty battery tray. Sadly it went up in flames before I had a chance to restore it. It was by far and away the best car I've ever owned. I have lots of fond memories driving it. This is the first 914 I've seen that has the flairs in the back but not in the front. It doesn't look quite right, the fenders should be flaired in the front as well. I love the color. Thanks.

I have had a lot of mid-engined cars, 512, 246, Europa, Esprit, Bora to name a few. It was definitely no the fastest, or the quickest, but the 914 (I had both a 73 2.0 and a 914-6) was hands down may favorite to drive. It has exceptional visibility, very open and comfortable interior and handles the most neutral (with the right tires and suspension and it setup properly) handling car I ever have driven. Oh, and the roof comes off, and handily stores in the trunk. I recently bought a Corvette C8...specifically because it was mid-engined, and the roof comes off. I looked at used 914s, and for what the cars were, they were all overpriced for anything decent enough to drive. And, at my age, I figured instead of working on the car, I'd rather drive it. Well, the C8 is a real grand slam for GM, though more modern, faster, quicker and far better handling...I still prefer the neutral handling, exceptional visibility and open interior of the 914.
