Was at the game. Lost my voice officially after mookie struck out. Was easily the loudest I heard the park all night. Even louder than the Rosario homer if you can believe that. I think everyone was just in utter shock after what happened and charged up.

I can say the most memorable moments from this postseason & World series was Freddie going yard against Hader in the NLDS, Dansby & Jorge back to back HRs in game 4 of the WS, Jorge MONSTER HR in game 6 of the WS and my favorite moment? Tyler Matzek in the NLCS striking out the 3 batters he faced after being put in a very tense moment. Unreal stuff, I went absolutely bonkers!

Matzek was definitely #1 for me too. One of the biggest plays that not always, but occasionally gets overlooked, was Rosario's catch at the warning track that created an out off of Luke Jackson (who needed the confidence boost) that would have certainly been a double and then an error, a bloop/weak base hit, two wild pitches, or whatever number of ways a runner can easily score from second got erased on an insane play by Eddie Rosario when the park was literally silently in horror before erupting in joy. Hearing the fans go insta-crazy every time I watch that replay kind of gets me every time.

Me and my older son got to go to this game by pure chance…we got off a cruise ship that morning and we’re driving home to Indiana. We got to ATL about 1 hour before game time and had bought tickets a few hours earlier. My family has been braves fans my whole life. I didn’t tell anyone we were there until Matzek was coming in in a jam. I sent out a selfie of us at the game and said “send that energy big fam 💪”. Then 3 straight k’s to get out of it and the rest is history. It’s going to be hard to top that experience with my boy.

According to "The Book: Playing the Percentages in Baseball" (outdated, I know), a runners second and third, no-out situation has a Run Expectancy (RE) of 2.075. Compared that to a bases loaded, no out situation, where the RE is 2.437. However, in a 2B/3B, no-out scenario, the chance of two runs scoring is 30.1%, as opposed to 20.8% for a bases-loaded, no-out scenario! Furthermore, while the likelihood of escaping a bases-loaded, no-out situation without any damage is only 12.5%, it's actually more likely in a 2B/3B, no-out situation for one or two runs to score! Since the Braves were up by two runs, this means this was actually a higher leverage situation than even bases-loaded, no-out scenario. The pressure was immense, but Matzek just obliterated it. Legend.

Matzek went from out of baseball for 5 years to pitching 13 of the 16 post season games for Braves in 2021 15.2 innings and had 3-0 record. Kind of sums up the entire Braves season in some ways. Losing Acuna, Ozuna, d'Arnaud for a big part of year and just hanging in there and winning it all. Oh yeah and losing Morton in the 3rd inning of game 1 of World Series.

I'm not sure the 1-2 to Souza was actually a mistake in location. The Dodgers were thought to be stealing signs or at least locations with a runner on 2nd earlier in the series. As I watched the last 2-3 games of the NLCS, I saw numerous times where d'Arnaud telegraphed a location with his glove and the pitcher "missed" by 2-3 feet but then d'Arnaud had no problem getting to the ball.

Wait so what does he mean about Pujols and Souza "cheating" to the top corner? So there hips begin to move like a swing would but what part is cheating?
@DPAFLESHER3 жыл бұрын
I think he means "cheating" by the batter is trying to anticipate the pitch, and therefore starts rotating his hips earlier than he would otherwise. Because Pujlos doesn't have the bat speed he used too, he needs to "guess" fastball and start the swing earlier. So if the pitcher sees the batter is doing this, the pitcher would throw a slider because the batter's swing is going to be so far ahead of the slowed down pitch. So Trevor isn't accusing him of doing something unsportsmanlike, just saying he's having to sacrifice his ability to hit any pitch and only focus on one.
