@@TylerSpangler hey there… I have some questions These may sound dumb but I’m going to try bjj sometime next week I train only kickboxing/Muay Thai How can I avoid cauliflower ear? I should bring some head gear to my first class or something else Any advice you can give to a new bjj guy? Thanks
@TylerSpangler2 жыл бұрын
@@milandejanovic1244 headgear is a good choice. You probably won’t need it right away. Also, make sure it fits perfectly otherwise you’ll still get cauliflower. For advice, just be calm. You will get destroyed, but roll with light energy so you can spend more time understanding what is happening to you

You can clearly tell these White belts have a great teacher! Loved the video Tyler. And by the way, I'd suggest changing your format settings of your iphone recording to MP4. It's automaticcaly adjusted to record 4k which is HVEC, but editing programs don't commonly recognize this which is why it gets corrupted. It took me ages to figure this out.

quick question from a beginner. why do some of them have two belts on?
@TylerSpangler2 жыл бұрын
Scoring. The green belt corresponds to the green wrist band when he holds his hand up.
@k.eckhoff81152 жыл бұрын
In case someone didn't answer yet it is so the ref can indicate to the table who scored based who is wearing the extra belt.

Thanks for the tournament footage! I was wondering: how do stripes on your belt work? How do you get those?
@thgerjakobsen77572 жыл бұрын
You get more the more you bribe the coach
@TylerSpangler2 жыл бұрын
Every gym is different. Some culty gyms (Gracie Barra, NOT ALL OF THEM) do it on attendance. Otherwise, at our gym, it’s a mixture of time dedicated and progression based on what the coach sees. I gave Joe a stripe a few weeks ago as I have seen his progression from 8 months ago when he started rolling on my channel. If you go down the rabbit hole, there are requirements how long you have to be at a certain belt to get the next one, but that’s more for competition regulation.
@daniellinzel19942 жыл бұрын
@@TylerSpangler thanks for your reply! I think my gym doesn't do stripes, but I'll inquire of the coach.
@benjobopper54472 жыл бұрын
@@TylerSpangler i go to a gracie barra and sometimes my professors won’t allow someone to get a stripe because they don’t think they’ve improved enough. either way i genuinely don’t think stripes matter tbh. i would honestly like to hear your opinion on whether you think stripes are a good thing or not. Great videos btw
@TylerSpangler2 жыл бұрын
@@benjobopper5447 stripes are mostly a retention technique. It works wonders for keeping people motivated, especially kids. Stripes don’t matter to me. Only white belt and black belt matter
