It seems as if this video was a bit controversial😅, and it was not meant to be. The reason why I brought pro anglers onto my video, was to prove a point about EFFICIENCY. You’re going to have a more efficient time frog fishing with a baitcaster over a spinning rod, and that’s just a fact. Otherwise, why the heck would the pro anglers all be doing the same thing?? It’s their job to fish in the most efficient way possible, or else they are handicapping themselves. If you get to the end of the video, analyze all of the points that I made, and still want to throw it on a spinning rod, that’s your choice. It’s an inefficient choice, but it’s yours to make

Key focus here is efficiency. It is easier to be done with a bait caster. But the argument could be made that some people like the challenge and like the fight. I talked to this one guy I met while fishing that was using a 6’ light spinning combo to catch largies, bowfin, and catfish. If you are fishing as a hobby sometimes it’s not as fun to just easily yank a fish out of the water into your boat like it’s nothing. Giving yourself a handicap can make those fights much more fun and entertaining and rewarding when you get it in the boat. Obviously tournament fishing you’d want to use the most advantageous setup

You are correct here. On my channel I teach efficiency, so that’s the point of view I’m coming from

I think if you a once in awhile fisherman, then you can throw any lure you want on any rod. Youll have to work a little harder and You'll still catch fish. But if you want better efficiency, and better action out of the lures, then yes. Only using certain lures on certain rods makes much more sense. I used to throw a frog on my spinning rod because its all i had. But when i invested in the baitcaster, i have found its much easier to get the action you want from the frog.

You should when your clients only use spinning reels.😊 I recommend the 7' medium heavy LEWS Custom Pro spinning rod, a Custom Pro 4000 reel, 30 lb. braid, and a Strike King Pad Perch for people who only use spinning combos. I personally use baitcasters, but I have practiced many of days with a spinning combo to help clients land more frog fish on a spinning combo. I understand your argument and agree with wanting to be more efficient.👍

I have a medium heavy spinning rod and I will try to put heavy 45lb braid on one of them and the other 20lb. See if any of those work. I’ll be fishing it in mostly matted up grass “cheese” stuff. I’ll let you know what happens. I’ll also go through the same area with a normal bait caster and see what happens.

It can work. It will be a lot less comfortable and it will be a lot harder to winch them out of cover. Working the bait and making many accurate casts in a short amount of time will be difficult
@brianchoi21583 жыл бұрын
Alright I just got back. Umm… so I had my reel with 45 lb braid, but I guess I needed a bigger spool, which isn’t a bad thing. But I did get three bites and landed none of them. Which happens right? But I just had a hard time making good casts under over hanging trees successfully. But I’m not too comfortable with spinning gear, just in general. But I lost all fish getting stuck in the matted grass. I couldn’t reel fast enough to get that fish out quick. All the fish just buried me. And the last fish broke my rod… also not landed. So I fished with my baitcaster but didn’t get any bites. Now I miss frog fish with my baitcaster , but I can say it is a lot easier pulling fish out with a faster reel. So would I use a spinning set up to frog fish, probably not. Just wasn’t comfortable with it. And I do think that it is very important in bass fishing to make sure that the bait you are using is matching your reel and rod. Like I could get away fishing a crank bait with my medium heavy fast action rod, but I do much better and feels more comfortable with a moderate action rod. I know fish can be extensive, complicated, and expensive. Again you can use whatever you want. But it’s just easier and less worry with the the right gear to the particular lure. Kinda like golf. You can play an entire 18 hole course with a 7 iron (tin cup movie) but it might be easier with having a whole set of clubs. actually when I first started playing golf as a kid I only used an 8 iron and a putter. But as I learned how to swing I can now feel comfortable with striking the ball with the entire set.

Calling fellow anglers dumb or silly based on what equipment the use is not the way to promote yourself on your corporate guided, you tube rating oriented tactics. Efficiency is also found on someone who can fish anywhere using anything. There are plenty of pro anglers out there fishing not for money or looking for sponsors but for the love and joy of fishing. Preference and skill are not the same in everybody and you have a lot to learn if do not respect that.
@TylersReelFishing3 жыл бұрын
I totally respect that. But I’m telling you one thing, every pro angler might not be looking for money, but every single one of them wants to win. I spend weeks around them every year, and I can confirm that without a doubt. They do everything in their power to win and efficiency is a part of that. If you want to catch more fish, like pro anglers, then you have to focus on efficiency. If you don’t and you just want to enjoy the level you’re at, go you that’s totally cool. This channel is about efficiency, and I’m not gonna change that

You said medium-heavy and heavy spinning rods are not common in the bass fishing world? That is wrong. I have used medium-heavy spinning rods for the last 30 years. A 6-foot medium-heavy Diawa I bought back in 88 was the best texas-rig worm rod I ever owned(alas I broke off the tip many years ago). I have at least five MH spinning rods right now. I do agree that a spinning rod is not ideal for frog fishing. Not impossible but not ideal. But there are a lot of long MH action fast tip spinning rods and there has been for a really long time. There are people that use nothing but spinning rods that catch a lot of bass every year.

Looking back at this…spinning reels usually are higher drag rated….i think a heavy spinning rod could do the same….would be fun to try wit a 4000 series and a 7ft mh or heavy inshore rod….
@spinningrodfisherman3 жыл бұрын
I think a baitcaster is a bit more efficient, you can fish faster with it. However I use a MH inshore rod which are pretty common and they are very similar to mh power of the baitcaster. Thrn use a 4000 size lightweight spinning reel which can actually take up alot of line even at 6:2:1 gear. Like 40" per crank. So you can definately fish a frog no problem setting the hooks with braid and bring them up fast. But a baitcaster is still faster. For fun fishing spinning rod is no problem. I think many people just dont understand theres alot of choices for a spinning setup to replace baitcaster if we are comparing power. It might not be as lightweight and fast combo but can get the job done
@TylersReelFishing3 жыл бұрын
The issue is, on my channel I really care about getting the job done. I care about doing the job well

@@TylersReelFishing I'm not saying either way is wrong because they both work. Just different approaches to fishing that can still pull up some fish. Which is great because what you show is a proven standard by pros who need to fish fast.
@spinningrodfisherman3 жыл бұрын
If we compared just power of pulling fish. I think both a heavy baitcasting setup as well as an inshore spinning setup both have plenty of power to pull fish out of weeds. The negative to the inshore setup is that the rod and reel together usually weight a good amount even on the lighter expensive gear. There for it can fatigue you all day long, this is why baitcaster is easier and faster to cast back into the water. Resulting in more cast and chances to get more fish.

@@richardbossman9875 spinning rods flex more and differently than casting rods. Just basic facts. I grew up only using spinning rods and have made the switch to casting rods and only a few spinning. I can say from personal experience that a casting rod just performs better in situations like using a frog than the spinning rod. Not to say you can’t do it is America so do what you feel is best. spinnning rods in deep sea and saltwater applications are more prominent because theyll take less damage to the saltwater, are easier to clean have less moving parts are more versatile when it comes to fishing styles there and you can target almost every fish with a spinning reel, they generally take 3or 4 screws to get into the gearings of them and spray some wd40 or pb blaster in it and then slap some vaseline in there and up in the inside the part the spool sits on top of. can be done in a few minutes vs a baitcaster requiring more work small pieces and precision, not to mention the uproar of chip baitcasting reels has been insane and they would be ruined quite quickly

@jimhalpert495926 күн бұрын
I’ve caught plenty of bass on spinning rods with frogs. Mostly because I don’t have a bait caster. I suck at fishing too, so maybe I’m kinda like an expert fisher dude now.

This is the problem with pros and sponsored anglers... There is no answer but their answer, why? Because they are salesmen and anglers. SOME people just don't want to use baitcasters, that's just a fact. Acting like there aren't heavier action spinning rods and reels is a bit silly, anyone can walk into a Walmart and find them... along with the CATFISH SPINNING RODS/REELS. I've loved every other video you made here, it's nice that Strike King gives you access to the pros... but this vid was a bit silly.
@TylersReelFishing3 жыл бұрын
Their answer is not because they are sponsored. Their answer is because they have to do their job to catch the most and biggest fish possible. Absolutely nothing to do with sponsor obligations here. If you wanna be most efficient, throw a frog on a baitcaster. That’s not debatable

@@TylersReelFishing You or whoever was on this page when this video dropped literally told people to unsubscribe... that's not the humble Tyler we've been following for years. Is throwing a frog on spinning gear inefficient? Yup. It's it WRONG? Nope... some people fish with nothing but spinning gear, especially in kayak tournaments. As I said elsewhere, you are a good teacher, a humble Christian with a gift of really explaining the ins and outs, a modern Bill Dance on KZbin.

Lol ive been a saltwater fisherman for a very long time and maybe your right I would look crazy at the lake with my 11ft surf rod, but i also have 7ft rods I use on boats that are medium heavy is do like baitcasters but i wouldn't agree that its easier to pull in fish with one its just more efficient with certain techniques in my opinion
@bstceltics43 жыл бұрын
I think it is more or less what your preference is because i can buy a 7'6 medium heavy shimano for 99$ and its gunna rip them out of those pads and its not a bulky salt water set up

im using a bait casting rod berkley amp medium heavy - fast action but(yall gonna think im new to fishing or stupid) w/ a spinning reel!!(this was my first pole n rod my friend gave me and i still like using it over my other spinning rod reel combos and my one baitcaster

Wait how? I’m not being rude I’m genuinely curious, since baitcaster rods have guides on the opposite side? With a spinning reel your line would literally have to 180 degree wrap around the rod. Very confused..

@@BurlehmangusI don't think that's true, the seat and guides are always on the same side

@bassnerd49183 жыл бұрын
Back when I was younger before I efficient with baitcaster I would use a spinning rod for frog. But not full size frogs. I would use a 7’0” medium heavy fact action spinning rod with 30lb braid. Now I use to fish a lake with sparse vegetation and A LOT of docks. I would use this spinning rod to skip the small hollow belly frog up underneath dock. And became very efficient at it. More efficient than using a bait caster for me at the time. I used smaller frogs because I found out quickly the full size frogs was a tad to big. But a small hollow belly worked awesome on my setup. I was actually so efficient at it I actually won a tournament and placed very high in others on this lake doing it. Now having said that I do use bait caster now and way better with them. But to say never use a spinning with a frog because it’s not that efficient is not true especially for some that’s not efficient with a bait caster. If done right it can be done and done well. Now your not going to throw a full sized frog on a spinning rod you’d use for drop shotting that just wouldn’t work well at all but a bigger spinning rod with a smaller frog can be done very well

"It’s their job to fish in the most efficient way possible..." Their job. Not mine. I'm here for fun and if all I have is a spinning setup and want to toss a frog, I'm going to do it. Damn efficiency.

@@TylersReelFishing I mean, it works with my inshore rods. 4000 penn battle with 40 lb braid on a penn 7’ m squadron rod is sometimes more efficient than baitcasters. I can throw 1 oz lure with that for punching or froggin or fish a weightless fluke or senko perfectly, and then I can turn around and catch inshore species with the same gear. A lot more cost effective!
@joshuastephens3013 жыл бұрын
I definitely need some better arguments why a baitcaster is more efficient. I can get a heavy action spinning rod with a 4000 or 5000 series reel with 40 lb test. Also rod angle and muscles used are both the same. The only thing a baitcaster has over a spinning reel is gear ratio.
@cautionfiamable3 жыл бұрын
Shimano reels. Try a stradic or sustain. You get what you pay for. The gear ratios are amazing
@spencerb8913 жыл бұрын
Gear ratios are lower but the radius of the spool is much bigger on the spinning reel so the line take up is about the same
