I noticed it took some force to lock the tray in. Especially with the cheese sticks where it looked like the tray was mostly in, but you gave it another push to close that last little bit. I wonder if it can run with the tray not fully inserted, and people don't notice and run it with the tray partly open allowing heat to travel up the front and inside the case causing melting and damage.

That would mean that there's an inherent issue with the sliding drawer type mechanism inside more than anything else. A bit of a DIY fix to get it working smoother and snapping in place, and it just might be a decent fryer.

I bought a popular name brand one and it quit working after like 3 uses. Turns out the thermal fuse blew. It was only rated for 100C and mounted right next to the chamber. I just ended up bypassing that one 🤫I was too lazy to replace with a bit higher one. I ran it at max temp a few times monitoring the wire temp and it stayed within reason. It's also plugged into an AFCI circuit. It still has the internal fuse so if that gets reallly hot or starts shorting it still protected.

All I could think of. Is Amazon reviews are wild. I get frustrated with them all the time. They can be so inconsistent. There are plenty of crap quality items on Amazon. This is a fact. And people want honest reviews. But I SWEAR, Amazon reviews always involve everything oddly being BROKEN, and/or doesn't work for some reason. I've joked about this before. And it starts becoming so frequent at times. That you have to start raising eyebrows. If that many items were broken. I'm sorry, Amazon would go out of business. I've actually seen people leave reviews telling viewers to ignore the one star "It won't work"/"It's broken" reviews. Because these people aren't following directions properly. Then proceed to thuroughly explain how to use it, and correcting everyone. 😂 Don't even get me started on the people leaving one stars because "I never received it"....

Just a guess but I'd say the people rated it one star or had it melt, put the thing right up against a wall or something like that where it recirculated the heat back into it until it died, that doesn't mean it isn't a low quality product but there is a likely chance of user error as a contributing factor.

Could have easily been a run of bad units or ones with faulty thermal protection. A family member went through 2x Mr. Coffee coffee pots earlier this last year because they kept failing the same way till they received a 3rd replacement that has been working up until a few days ago, just a few months out of warranty. I took the bottom cover off and the thermal fuse was tripped and I just replaced it with a slightly higher thermal rating of 5 Celcius more and it has not had an issue sense and should still trip with plenty of safety margin in a worst case scenario. If you think about it these units likely have a thermostat, the timer switch, the switch for the drawer and likely a few thermal fuses within the unit just in case they go overtemp. I can easily see one of these units overheating if the fan stalls or any one of the switches or thermal fuses trips or fails.

Your review / bench test was good only for physical structural working properties, performance and rugged durability. All very important and informative. Questions still pending: How much slower does it cook compared to the Ninja 4 quart (industry standard)? Did it cook evenly? (appears it did) Did the temperature knob accurately work? Colder/hotter? I would have liked to see you time with a timer the minutes cooked and the extra minutes it took to crispen the tots. And those cheese things? Please, that’s not good food! I thought only children eat such garbage.😂 Fosters Mini Corn Dogs (great honey cornbread) …and Just Bare Chicken Breast. More expensive than the other brands but well worth it.

My air fryer doesn't need to be preheated. You just turn it on set timer and go.😊

They never need to be pre-heated, but if you want the same cooking times, follow the directions. Common sense, man............

Air fryers don't need pre-heating indeed, just skip that nonsense, as it's being air heated

Ive had to bend the basket on mine several times so it hits the safety swith properly - maybe the heat/cool open/close is causing it to deform and not hit the switch.

You're not alone on the quality control issues. I've stopped buying the Fridays brand cheddar and bacon potato skins because of how terrible the potatos have gotten.

I've never had a problem with this brand. I like that brand alot...got two different types of coffee pots from 'em and an air fryer no problems with any of 'em in over 2 years.
