Musicians, Producers, Writers, a key element! Before you start submitting to these companies, GET YOUR PAPERS Right. What I mean by that? Make sure you are affiliated with a PRO such as BMI, ASCAP etc etc. Have your METADATA for your songs set up correctly. If you are an independent writer/composer and is not represented by any publisher company, make sure you state this in your metadata by adding "One-Stop". This means you are THE ONLY person that represents all the rights to your music. Make sure you provide information's such as your REAL NAME and not pseudo name. Is there more participant on? Provide this info as well and make sure they too have their papers worked out as well. Provide as much protocol metadata as possible. And once you start getting enough placements, sign up with a admin publishing company to collect that mechanical royalties. It ain't much but trust me, that money is also yours to collect, so don't let it sit there for too long because after 3 years, it is GONE. Cheers.

Best interview regarding Music Licensing I've watched in a very long time! This brutha dropped alot of jewels and he sounds as though his company is a great company to work with. A Music Library that splits Publishing & Sync Fees? Every Music Library I've come in contact with wanted 100% Publishing and you probably wont see any upfront sync fees. Some Libraries today are even asking for half the writers share smh. Great interview once again. Thanks for sharing! Loved It!!!

Thanks, Ms. Tynia. Great interview! I especially appreciated the conversation about what Kyle believes are equitable and fair money terms. That was extremely helpful. I now know what to ask for in my placement deals. It was also good to learn about his company. It’s seems to be a good company to connect with. I love your channel and appreciate you! 👍 Thank you for all of the great advice!

I know that "becoming a lawyer" is still at the top of your achievements list, but you really are very good at this :-) You have a knack for "listening" while also "saying what you want to say in as few words as possible" :-) Letting Kyle "tell his story" (without interrupting him) is something a lot of podcast people simply can't do! Lol Anyway, Kyle may not be a "household name" in the producer/music publishing world, but he is a walking-talking example of someone that has been successful in a very lucrative part of the industry...which "we" usually aren't told much about. There's a reason why Danny Elfman (leader of a 80's band with a mass underground following) has a net worth of over $50 million...and is the "go to" guy for every movie that Tim Burton has (and probably will ever) do. $50 million from 27.5 hours of music (e.g. 2.5 hrs times 11 films = 27.5 hours), is not bad for someone that's not a celebrity :-) For those that don't know who Danny Elfman is, he wrote the them for "The Simpsons", and a couple of the "Batman" movies.

Hi thanks for this useful video. I need help! I started a publishing bussiness and most of my customers are Christians friends and musicians from Cuba. We haven’t earned any royalties yet and we really don’t know if we ever will. Since they are located in Cuba they want to transfer their earnings to relatives that are US Citizens.
@tydboo3 жыл бұрын
I’m one of those who work with “myself”. I’ve never worked with anyone else. Maybe it is/was in thinking it is not good enough or maybe that my tracks aren’t really finished and just not fully happy with what I’ve done. It’s been a hobby for me for some years and I only recently decided to release some and try to make money from it.

Sync licensing is cool.The only thing is if you're artist there is no "guarantee" you will get a placement. Your music has to be good though.
@tyniacoats3 жыл бұрын
Nope, there is no guarantee. However, you have a much better chance of getting a placement when you are part of a music library who has connections with all of those companies already and their sole focus is to get placements.

What are your views on the publishing split of a retitled song? Is 50-50 a fair split?
@themelongourddevelopmentbo49633 жыл бұрын
Enjoyed the video. But retitling a master for the sake of some accounting loophole doesn’t seem legit. Am I missing something?
@tyniacoats3 жыл бұрын
You're not re-titling it for accounting purposes, they re-title it so all of the royalties you earn on other platforms stay with you under that original title & you maintain complete ownership under that original title. Under the new title, it is only connected to the royalties that come from placements that the music library actually procured for you and they take some of the publishing share, so that new title is registered with new publishing splits.

Idk why he’s saying giving up publishing is crazy. The library literally is publishing the song on your behalf so why wouldn’t they get the publishing? 🤦🏾♂️ The writer can get the writers share of the royalties and the library can take the publishers share of the royalties and everything is even. Everybody eats.
