I was a teenager with type one. Pre pump and cgm. I’m glad I’m alive. I refused my parents help as well. The benefit was there was no cgm so parents couldn’t get mad at me while I figured life out. But a1c was like 10. So it got bad for a bit. Some days I just wanted to be normal

Does dexcom not give you replacements if it doesn’t last? In canada wheee I live we only have to pay a deductible then it’s free. Deductible is based on income. If you Kate like under 80k I your deductible is like 2500. It goes up to 10 k but for wealthy like drs. So even if you are rich the govt will eventually help pay if you spend more than 10 k a year on medicine . They are bringing in a new law that all diabetes stuff will be covered for free no deductible regardless of income. It’s not here yet but soon. Pumps though for omnipod are free for all ages

This must be a tough stage! Hang in there 😊 Has Henry ever tried low (smart) carb? Its been super helpful for us but also a pretty big learning curve

Love my Omnipod 5 with Dexcom G6. As I've gotten old, I eat smaller portions of everything. Small portions = small insulin = easier to manage blood sugar. I don't have lows anymore, and I barely ever go high, unless I forget to bolus. 54 years, and I'm still doing that. It just happens, try not to get upset with him. Also, regarding your Dexcom not lasting 10 days. Have him wear it on his thigh. I've always worn mine on my thigh BECAUSE the thigh is the location that has the least amount of skin movement. It's also not exposed. I can hack my sensor and make it last 20 days, with no skin glue, and no overpatch. When I was Henry's age, I had just gotten my first Glucometer!

Hi Amy. Just watched this again. Was diagnosed with T1 at 60 years old! Been a loyal subscriber of yours since Henry was a little boy. Your confidence and kindness have always been so comforting to me. Henry is SO LUCKY to have you as his Mom. 🙏🧡

My son is 6 years old and is on a G7. I was having the same issues constantly which is why we changed. G7 is much better, 20 minute warm up and counts down on the screen. Much more painless, the adhesive always stays on for full 10 days and is not painful to remove. Many benefits to the G7. We are looking into pumps but the pens work fine for us at the moment until then. Thank you for sharing your journey, my son was diognosed at 1.5 years old so very similar journey. Your doing a fab job! New sub 🤗

Nice to see you, friend. I've found that G6's are working slightly worse now as well. Mine do last the full 10 days, but I do restarts and those don't last as long anymore.

Hi! My son is 12 years old and has had T1D since he was 3.5 years old. I hear you! My son also forgets to give insulin sometimes, but he's getting better at it. It does sound to me like your son is giving insulin too late. My son has a scale with him at all times, and my husband wrote an app that calculates how many carbs stuff has so my son only had to weigh his food and the app tells him how much carbs he needs to give insulin for. Hang in there, Mama! My advice: if his Hb1AC is below 8, let him learn from his mistakes. Sometimes, we parents do a disservice to our children by doing things for them instead of letting them learn from their mistakes. Our kids will be fine in the long run if they spend a couple of years with a higher HbA1c than we would like, but then they will be better off at the end because they learnt how to manage this stupid disease independently. Hugs and kisses! ❤

I’m turning 22 next week and I dealt with my numbers doing the same thing where at times it will be high and others where they get low. I would say my biggest issue is also carb counting, luckily for me I am about to upgrade my pump to the 780g which will correct my highs and detect if I misdosed. I am sure the omni pod is one step away with those updates. But I never had my mom help me with my diabetes because I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 18. All I know is hormones suck and that is most likely causing the ups and downs too. I hope things get better for you and Henry❤

Being a teenage is hard enough without the added stress of diabetes! I always over treat for a low and then spike high too. ❤
