FREE TRIAL OF OMNIPOD omnipod.com/typeonetalks I realize these detailed review videos are very long. The reason is that I try to include as much information as possible to allow all of you fellow diabetics to have all the information you need to be able to decide if Omnipod 5 is a good fit for you. It takes a lot of time and energy to analyse every bit of the system but I love doing that. And I always want to improve so I would love to hear your feedback to see whether there is anything I can do better in my future review videos. Please let me know! I was lucky enough to get mine in the limited release back in may, and I’ve been using it for close to 6 months now. You’re absolutely correct about the algorithm learning in the beginning. When I first started my time in range wasn’t the greatest, after a month or two, I was having multiple days a week 100% in range. The AI basal rate on the 5 is absolutely insane! I still can’t believe an algorithm is keeping me this well managed without any input from me! And I just got my A1C, 5.8! Absolutely crazy!

I’m a school nurse in the US, and have 3 young diabetics, one uses Omni pod 5, the other 2 are using Kwickpen. I love the Omnipod, it has been amazing in stopping many dangerous lows. I love that it is working in the background to keep her at her target, instead of having to wait 3 hrs between corrections. The graphs from the kids show the difference, significantly fewer big swings from the Omnipod user. Loving all the real user info on your site.

I broke my leg back in late March because I had a low blood sugar at 3:00 in the morning and collapsed while walking to get some food. I was in insulin pens, but I wrote my doctor and immediately told him to put me on a pump because he said it would help stop the 3:00 am lows and help prevent my spikes (every day for 6 months, I'd wake up with 358 or higher blood sugars). He recommended the Omnipod. Took me three months to get trained on it for some reason (then again, I did have a broken leg) but now that I'm on it, I love it. I've been on it a week now and already I can see my blood sugars evening out. The pod did not stop my 3:00 am crashes, but I learned to put my omnipod in Activity mode from 1-4, and at 4 it starts up again and prevents my spikes. It's so nice sleeping again and waking up with normal blood sugars.

I suffer from lows in the middle of the night as well. I know what you go thru waking up, sometimes so extreme you can’t even walk and you are basically a cripple. I haven’t used any of the dexcom devices in years, I’ve used the freestyle libre since the sensors always have been so slim and small, which I can set whatever reading to alert my iPhone to start screaming when it drops. I usually set it when it gets to 80mg/dl. Does the dexcom not cause a loud alert when it drops? I haven’t had an extreme low in years because it wakes me up instantly if I drop

I have been on the omnipod 5 for a couple months. I love it. Previously, I had the tandem tslim. My thoughts? The user interface and phone app and glucose tracking software is far superior on tslim. That being said, I love love love not having tubes, and I love not having to adjust basal rates. Another important feature is that omnipod is ok to go through airport scanners. That's great for people who travel. Also, the supplies needed to tote along are much less with omnipod. The syringe, infusion set, and pump are all contained in one little package. I wish omnipod's user interface was more like tandem's. Tandem has them beat. Aside from that, i will never go back to a tubed pump. You don't realize how much having that pump on a wire hampers you and gets in your way until you go without it.

Thanks for these amazing videos on diabetes technology. As an adult type 1 diabetes physician and clinical researcher, my experience with the technology is very sterile and often limited from a personal experience standpoint. Your videos provide the necessary color to my experience, allowing me to provide better recommendations to patients. So far, the Omnipod 5 system has been positively received through my clinic, but there have been a few setbacks that several individuals have reported. Firstly, connectivity issues with the pods requiring pod changes: this isn't common, but when it happens, it can be very frustrating, since the pods cannot be recovered for continued use after a fatal disconnect. Secondly, several of my patients have reported issues with 0 basal delivery occurring during daytime and overnight use, without particular reason. This has occurred early on in the use of the system when first released, and I haven't appreciated any similar episodes within the last 4-6 months, but I'm still asking my patients about these events whenever they come in to see me, just in case. Adhesive issues are less common with the newer pods in my estimate, but phone charging issues while using the app (especially on older phone models) is a common issue, due to the processing requirement and the need to turn off battery optimization. I hope this helps others when considering this system over other artificial pancreas options, and I would love to hear your input on these particular issues as well. Thanks again. Joseph El Youssef.

What other artificial pancreas options are there?
@JosephElYoussef
@JosephElYoussef Жыл бұрын
@@sherylgoins4865 Currently, there are three closed-loop systems available for individuals with diabetes in the US. The Medtronic 670G/770G/780G systems (which now have the added bonus of a 7-day infusion set option), which uses Medtronic's own pump and sensor; the Tandem Control-IQ system, which uses the Tandem TslimX2 pump and the Dexcom G6/G7 sensors; and the Omnipod 5 system. All of these are currently Hybrid Closed-Loop (HCL) control systems, which means that users still need to input carbohydrates manually for meals to trigger a meal bolus. Fully Closed-Loop (FCL) control systems will, in the future, be able to predict meals and deliver the bolus automatically, completely removing any necessary input from human users.

The more control the pump had the worse the results became with the 670g. I hope this one is great but just afraid of algorithms still at this point. It requires a lifestyle that is super consistent. I've tried both Omnipod and T-slim as well, and interestingly enough I found omnipod more obtrusive for day to day use. It's tubeless yes, but you have to wear a (imo) fairly large pod on your body, and for me at least it was slightly uncomfortable and also left marks in a way the t-slim didn't. I also found the algorithm on omnipod very frustrating and overly conservative in terms of allowing highs, but ymmv (I shoot for a 6.0 or below A1C). I also really disliked the forced 3-day timeout of the omnipod. Depends on your daily usage, but I can get 1-2 more days out of my t-slim which I appreciate greatly (no forced timeout). I felt like with omnipod I was always either coming off a change or worrying about my next one. All relatively minor things tbh but they added up for me.

I really want an omnipod because i always give myself many shots EVERYDAY. I mostly give the shots on my legs and stomach, but it’s been for many years that i’ve been using the same exact spots, that my legs especially are starting to hurt and i think im getting nerve damage because of it. So it’s really bad and I definitely want an omnipod. Can’t take it anymore

My 11 year old daughter uses the tslim x2 pump now and wants to get the omnipod. I have been reading reviews on this pump and I see that the pump only works with android phones and not iPhone is this true? Also the receiver I guess over heats about every 2 days and has to be reset as well, can you explain this to me and has this happened to anyone else? Another question as well, I was also told by her doctor that it takes longer for her blood glucose to go down if she is high, have you heard of this happening?

@brabbit1692
@brabbit1692 Жыл бұрын
My daughter's endo, who is a diabetic herself, said the arm is fine. As far as my daughter goes, the arm is usually her best site in terms of accuracy and no complications are concerned. The dexcom website lists it as the only other approved spot aside from the stomach for all patients over 2 years old (and above the butt for kids only). I'd suggest getting further clarification from your doctor after showing them the dexcom guidelines. Omnipod has more leniency with approved sites.
