Great job! I would like to add another tip: “Presoaking” your next Sensor. This involves only physically inserting your next Sensor only ahead of time, I try to do it around 8 hours ahead. It really does help to minimize the often wacky readings you get after starting a new Sensor. I had read about it on “TuDiabetes”. At first I thought it was bad advice, but I was frustrated with how often I would get wacky (mostly LOW) false alerts on a new Sensor. I started on G6 for a few months, then G5 for a year, then back to G6 now for 2 years. Thank you for your hard work making this excellent, helpful video!
@Kroek00502 жыл бұрын
I second this, if I don't presoak my numbers are off by 40+ points for the first 12-24 hours. But if I put in a new sensor the night before the old one expires I never even have to calibrate, and I only have 2 hours without readings.
@rkw2212 жыл бұрын

@@Kroek0050 interesting. I used to use the G6 and stopped completely because I was unhappy about the readings. So essentially, I have number 1 inserted and it’s about the expire the next day, I would insert number 2 the night before, then the next day I would activate number 2?

i am from Pakistan and my daughter around 4 years old diagnosed yesterday diabetes...how can use libre sensor at minimum cost
@emmyyox2 жыл бұрын
I have been diabetic for 7 years, been using a libre for 2 years until this month. I just got the Dexcom G6 for during and a year after my pregnancy (I'm almost 15 weeks :) ), and I really love it! It is so much easier and more convenient for a busy person like myself who works on hospital wards all day. The constant need to scan the libre sensor would mean that if I was busy, I would completely forget and end up with not many readings, making my blood sugar management more tricky for my busy lifestyle. Dexcom allows me complete freedom to know my blood sugars all day everyday without the need to physically stop and scan. I know that I can just check it when I have the chance and it will tell me the data for the time period! Its superb! Thank you for showing how to remove the Dexcom, this is something I struggled with the first time, and I wouldn't have even thought to use the oil. Your videos are always so informative and helpful and make me feel more confident in my own diebetes management! God bless!

Tom, I am so glad I found your channel! First, I am not diabetic but I have hyperinsulinemia - a complication of gastric bypass surgery for weight loss in 1993. My condition was "accidently" discovered in 2009 when I was seeing an endocrinologist about another issue and my BS reading was 40 (2.2 everywhere but here in the U.S.). Long story short my worst crash has been 20 (about 1.1 converted?) and to say that I have been scared at times is an understatement. My biggest nightmare is that I will crash in the middle of the night and never wake up. I am 69 but in no rush to check out yet! About two weeks ago I got a reality check when our two pups woke my husband up to go out (both senior dogs) after we were deeply asleep and I was awakened by the noise - rare with my hearing aids out. I felt "funny" so I did a finger stick and I was crashing. I was WIDE AWAKE then and had to treat. What if...? That is when I asked my doctor for a G6 so I could visibly track what my BS trends are and have an alarm to warn me before things got risky. We don't have an endocrinologist where I live and traveling 100 miles to access one is painful, at best. My GP and I are doing the best we can together, and I think he is learning from me about some things. Having to correct the low BS with food is not a good thing as I struggle with weight issues. I lost 200 pounds after the bypass but have gained back about 80 of them as my mobility has drastically decreased. You could say I am a "relatively healthy" fat chick with bad bones! I have had 4 total joints replacements - so far - and I have a neurostimulator in my lower back to moderate some of the pain. You could say I am bionic, and like one of your other viewers, could celebrate Halloween as a Borg! The hearing aids are a random plus due to a firing range incident 3 years ago. After my life story, my husband is a type 2 diabetic who, it seems to me, is uncontrolled and in denial. His doctor has him insulin dependent and prescribed him a G6 which he has adamantly refused to use at all. He is an adult and very opinionated so convincing him to use it is futile. I wish I could just get through that tough exterior and help him realize... Thanks again for all of your insight to using the G6. It helped me to feel less worried about the potential problems and how to prevent them. I will be watching more of your videos, for sure, and MAYBE you will get through to my hubby where I can't. ❤️

Your videos are good but I still have a few questions: first, how much force is needed to insert the Dexcom sensor? If you posh too hard will the wire go too deep to pick up the fluid? Second, you say not to calibrate on the first day of a new sensor. How do you take care of an initial reading on the Dexcom that is over 100 units away from a finger stick reading? I’m using Control IQ on a Tandem pump and that kind of difference will really upset the automatic insulin delivery algorithm.

Question! "Never calibrate your sensor during the first 24 hours" - do you mean 24 hours from when the sensor is applied to the skin, or from when it has been activated? The reason I ask is because I apply the sensor to my skin 12-24 hours before activating it, so that it can "settle" a bit first. This supposedly makes it a bit more accurate from the beginning after activation.

I semi recycle…what I mean by that is…for the first year after diagnosis (2020) I saved all my insulin “sharpes, waste, even used pens”…and since I own a keepsake business I turned everything from the first year into a keepsake project (actually a few projects lol)…I made some art work even using the needles from the insulin pens…one of the keepsakes is a big shadow box frame where I made a beautiful butterfly with infinity lights…keeping it all together with resin…and had my dad and grandfather make the shadow box for my project…thinking about making something new since as of sept 29th I will be on an insulin pump-so I may make that with yet another keepsake….I actually plan to do a Timelapse video with my next piece so I can post it (but maybe in place of a year just do six months since there will be more items….but watching you break this down now I know I can do that I will try to fill in the negative space with pieces from these parts…even thought of just doing a paperweight for my desk of all the insulin “hardware” I have to keep unharmed on my clutsy-self…💜

I wear DG6 on my left tricep so I always know to be careful of my left side going through doorways etc (I’m a clutz!) and I only get the odd compression low (Which doesn’t wake me as I leave my phone downstairs overnight but it does skew my stats). I couldn’t wear it on my abdomen or chest as I sleep on my front mostly. My outer thigh gets soaked in the bath daily so that’s a no no so I’m sticking with triceps for meeee! I agree the sensor reads weird for the first 24hrs or so and so I’ll blood test to confirm but not calibrate until a day or so later if I have to. When I do calibrate it’s usually because the sensor is telling me I’m low when blood testing tells me I’m not and again it’s about accuracy and not skewing the stats.

I find that placing the sensor on my chest protects it from catching on things I am carrying and doors I am holding open with my body. I only have to use extra tape to hold the sensor on my chest for the full 10 days with about 20% of the sensors applied. But I think this is possible only because of how I shower. I never let the direct shower spray hit the sensor; I just cover it with my hand when the shower spray is hitting my chest. Yes, the sensor still gets soaked but it isn't power washed as it would be by the direct spray.

Nice tip. I have a handheld shower head and use a shower stool due to orthopedic issues. I will avoid the area where my G6 is when I shower. I just got my G6 yesterday and showered before installing it. I live in the desert and have to moisturize all the time so a good scrub seemed important. I actually used Dawn dish soap and a silicone facial exfoliating scrubber on my upper arm to prep the area. If Dawn was effective and gentle enough for cleaning waterfowl after our big oil spill in Alaska (lived there for 37 years) it is good enough for me.

I like the ease and less drama with the G6, hassle to get with my Insurance but now that they consider it a pharmacy item and no longer DME product it is covered for a minimal copay with my insurance. I do not use a pump though, still using Humilin pen 70/70/30 at meals. so now i am wondering if i should change the location of the sensor. i used to use the back of my arm for the freestyle but was afraid to go against the rules for the g6, been using my lower gut, which helps with the losses I incurred before on my arms. I agree that the G6 sensor is more accurate after a day or even just a few hours of use. But not always the case. That's why the finger sticks are helpful to know how your sensor is functioning and when you can start relying on it. Question: Seeing the Tandem Control IQ relies on the sensor input, and if the sensor is not accurate for a number of hours, do you turn off Control IQ on the pump and input the fingerstick readings manually into the pump? Can be a concern if the G6 is sending false high readings and the pump auto corrects with boluses. I haven't tried turning off Control IQ myself but just input the glucose reading from the meter. I haven't experienced an unexpected low so far from incorrect readings. Really enjoy your channel Tom.

I can’t seem to find any information or comments when you use the Tandem Slim-x CGM-IQ function. According to the tandem x devise, it states that you cannot have a paired devise (with the Dexcom G6 App) with the transmitter… in order for the tandem slim-x to register the transmitter readings, you have to Un-pair the transmitter from the Bluetooth devise, then your able to see the glucose readings on the tandem slim-x…. This is my first time using the Dexcom, I had to switch from the Omnipod/Freestyle Libre, because Medicare will not pay for the un-wired pump system… so my question is, is anyone using the random slim-x CGM-IQ and the Dexcom app….can you use both, or only one devise at a time. Hope I didn’t confuse u guys, thx
@colleenkoch13382 жыл бұрын
It's actually called the Tandem slim X2 insulin pump with control IQ. And, yes u can pair it with the Dexcom transmitter at the same time with the Dexcom G6 app on your phone. It's one medical device (tandem pump or Dexcom G6 receiver) and one non medical device (Dexcom G6 app on cell phone).

This is just the results of a small test I did with glucose testing meters. (I was bored). I had 5 glucometers (I can’t spell). 2 were exactly the same brand and model, then I had a different model but the same brand, one was a cheap store brand, I had 1 which was a very inexpensive store brand, and 2 that had been sent to be to try for free. Anyway I picked a time several hours after eating and a couple of hours after exercising to test. I used the same finger to prick to get blood samples from. Now to the results I live in the United States and all of the readings were between 90-95 which was really almost a perfect match with my G6 reading of 88. There have only been a couple of other times I used more than 1 glucose meter to double check my G6 (I rarely check it at all only occasionally during the 1st few hours of wearing the G6 if I get a low reading but am not experiencing symptoms.

I’m new to this so I keep bleeding and have to take it off, why my site on my arm bleeds?
@sherylchandler41072 жыл бұрын
Carolyn, I'm very new to the G6, but I've been a Type I over 30 years. I've had a LOT of bleeding with insertion, too, and it's been a very wasteful (expensive) process. I called Dexcom and they sent me replacement sensors for free. Their customer service is awesome. I've learned NOT to press the sensor applicator at all. Just lay it on your skin. Before you click it, you can press a little to get the adhesive to stick. But when you are inserting it, do NOT press. I get blood when I press. Hope this helps.
@carolynmims35042 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you so much I tried it like you suggested and that’s exactly what the problem was, also I was putting on the front part of my arm, that’s where the blood vessel is and I was pressing on it really hard, so thank you

If using the same code will be regarded as the repeat usage of sensor, why can't Dexcom G6 create a more complicated combination of code , instead of 4 numbers...
@sjwproductions31172 жыл бұрын
The code can be the same or every sensor an will not cause any issues at all if the transmitter is disconnected from a sensor for 15 min before connecting it to a new sensor.

Brand new T2, just put my first libre sensor on. I have the reader, and the app on my phone. I registered the sensor on the reader. How do I get data to my phone?
@kyleeriddle93162 жыл бұрын
I think you can just try and scan with your phone or go in the app and start sensor in the app.
@johnhoye65842 жыл бұрын
@@kyleeriddle9316 thank you for answering. It says incompatible senso or it says sensor already activated on another device. In theory, PC software lets me set up devices. Have not found the program yet.

do we really neend a reader...? can i only order the sensor and Activ it with my mobile aap...?
@johnhoye65842 жыл бұрын
@@ayyazshah1658 I bought my reader without sensors, I would assume it worked the other way also. The sensor is not, IMO, as good as the app. But it does do blood checks as well as the sensor reads, which is nice.

Your way of separating the case of the dexcom g6 is hazardous. The screwdriver can slip and damage your hand. A safer and even easier way is to use a hammer and hit where the two parts meet. Quickly done well done. Merci et bonne chance

Why are you using the G6 and not the Libre 3? I saw your video trying it out. I just recently started using the Libre 3 and think it is so much better than the G6, much easier to apply and to get started and so far no allergic reaction. With the G6 I had the worst itchy rashes and also crazy inaccurate measurements.
@TypeOneTalks2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing Jay Jay. Awesome to hear you are happy with Libre 3. I like Libre 3 too but the main reason why I use G6 right now (I believe I mentioned it in the video where I compared these two) is that automated insulin delivery feature is only supported with Dexcom G6. No insulin pump currently works with Libre 3 in the "auto mode". Hope this explains it:) Take care!

@jayjaykay54542 жыл бұрын
@@joyyoder5942 Hi Joy, I do not have any experience with Libre2, therefore I do not really understand your question. The Libre3 does not need any charging. You might want to watch a video from Tom in which he is testing the Libre3 and gives a lot of useful information. From what you are writing, I have the impression that your doctor is not very helpful. Here in Germany there are specialists for Diabetes, who give very detailed advice on how to handle it. There are also tons of info on the internet. Watching Tom's channel should give you a lot of knowledge already.
