One thing I’ve learned is that newer players forget to think about the benefits of clicking up to next age when presented with army pressure. Panic range instead of focusing on seige switch in castle with focusing on one unit along side it

As a 900 elo I enjoy seeing my bracket reviewed from time to time. I work a full-time job and am going to trade school, so I don't have time to be a pro or anything, but I feel like (just like with chess) being able to play at an intermediate level is both fun and the sign of a gentleman. I think if I can eventually get up to 1100 or 1200 ELO, I will feel fully satisfied with my ranked AOE2 life. Any higher than that and it will start to detract from my other priorities and pursuits. For higher level brackets, I will simply sit back and enjoy the show.

@joshuah5655 Similarly to chess, there is a lot to learn at the start but once you understand the basics, you'll be surprised at how quickly you climb. I was in a similar boat to you but I had a week off at one point and spent it studying pro games. Jumped almost 600 elo that week.

This is such a relatable video. I was playing exactly like this a few months back. I couldn't point out exactly what i was doing wrong, but could definitely understand that my play was not optimum. I went back, learnt a basic build order towards archer play, and jumped about 200 ELO in a few days. My experience tells that it is a build order problem, and the average 900 ELO player is too good, if they have a plan with a build order.

Found your discussion of the rock-paper-scissors idea really interesting, unit that should counter both enemy units but not upgraded so counters neither. I've definitely been victim to that a few times and not understood why but you explained it so clearly

Hera, I think you're thinking too hard about blue wanting a castle. Maybe I'm the outlier, but to me, getting a castle doesn't mean I'm going to switch units; I just want a castle. lol. A defensive building that'll keep castle age units away. That's just me I guess. I go to stone because I want to build a castle for the safety factor. Deciding if I'm going to build my UU comes after.

I go 28 pop dark age into fc with no walls or army. idk why I just think it's really fun to quick wall instead of actually defend with army. I also don't make units if I don't think they're fun to play with, so like no archers or skirms. even with that stubbornness I'm higher elo than these guys 11. (fr try the 28 pop fc. it's not good but it's fun)

I think that telling someone to copy a build order, even your own, is bad advice, personally. I think people get good by experimenting and finding what works best for them, not by copying someone else. While build orders might be similar and beneficial, over reliance on a stringent build at all stages eliminates the ability to be flexible and adapt rapidly as situations develop.
@danielpinzon560314 сағат бұрын
Think of the build order like teaching someone how to shoot a basketball. There's several different types of shots (mid range jumpshot, lay up, floater, free throw, 3 pointer, catch and shoot off the dribble etc) and the fundamentals of the shot are almost always the same for everyone. Of course there's always some variation in style that comes from people experimenting, but ultimately there is a generally accepted sound technique or framework that goes into learning each shot. The build orders are the same. You learn how to do a basic archer rush, scout rush, MAA, FC and slowly you optimize it and then start learning through experimentation how to read the game and adapt to what is happening. The typical dark age, as you may know, is 6 on sheep 2-4 wood house then mill, lure boar etc etc. On heras discord you'll find people debating 10 on food first and then 6-7 on wood and whether they lure board quickly, deer, sheep, mill etc. The end goal is to simply make it to 500 food to make it to feudal age with the correct distribution of villagers and resources to make the units you want to make. But until you can successfully meet that goal, experimentation is a longer and harder path to success than learning the basics from someone else.

Sure, but dark/early feudal are generally all the same with no one challenging you.
@thoneras9611Сағат бұрын
Its not a build order for the whole game, just for the first 10 minutes or so (~first 15 - 25 Villiager, fast imp maybe up to 30). I thnk its a very good advice for everyone who want to improve his elo, especially if you are a newbie. It gets you the basics. And after you have a good ground, you can freestyle all the day.

can you show me how to beat AI hard? sometimes i beat it sometimes i cant, i have been playing for a week
@ar1sm70Күн бұрын
Hard AI population caps at about 80, so remember to keep making Vills at all times. Besides that, a solid build order for some Feudal pressure while you set up your eco behind is usually enough to beat it.
@jeremyfox4186Күн бұрын
I'm currently working to be able to 100% beat Hard AI. What has made a big difference for me is making sure I get walled off fast, and making sure I fully upgrade a unit before adding another (Like was mentioned in this video). This hasn't got me to the point where I always win though (maybe about 60%-70% win rate v Hard AI). So I'm still in your same boat. And I've been playing a lot longer than a week. So don't be too hard on yourself. Good luck and have fun!

Usually 4 trebs and something to defend them will end the game. Hard AI never makes a massive army, so if you don't kill it in feudal, you can just walk up, have some army to defend while you rack up your eco, and then push with a nice combo: gold unit, trash units, and siege.

Early pressure has helped me. Build some scouts and keep harassing their villagers.
