This is why it's weird to me that Americans think carbs are bad. I think it's just because everything here is overly processed. Like even our bread and jam are probably much more processed than it is in France.

Here in the US, most bad eating habits falls on parents. I'm 48, and have raised 7 children, now aged 13 to 30 (2 of them we fostered, raising). In the past 30 yrs, I can't believe the number of parents who say their children will only eat chicken nuggets, hot dogs, mac and cheese. How is this even an option? The parents buys and cooks the food, making the nutritional decisions, not the 3 yrs old. Child then forms those habits, continuing as if it is normal. A child will not starve if they aren't given junk every day, and they won't even throw a tantrum about it if not shown that is an option. Mine, even the teens, all eat healthy on their own because that is what is normal to them and what they expect, a healthy diet with treats and junk as a treat once in awhile. It starts with Mom & Dad. We are seeing preteens with diet related signs of heart issue and pre-diabetes. That's not ok.

It has a lot to do with the strict rules of fortifications in our foods in USA UK and Canada, that most European countries do t have. We should be asking more questions on what they are putting in our foods , especially too many synthetic vitamins like iron that causes our systems problems..

These videos are really healing, as someone that struggles really badly with their relationship with food, it is so encouraging to know that eating delicious foods like this is possible within moderation and high-quality ingredients. As someone who is a bit curvier, society has definitely told me that I need to become smaller and in order to do that I have to cut out all of my favorite foods. I have no desire to change my body for the wrong reasons, I only want to be healthy and whole. Thank you for making these videos and reminding me that these foods can be healing too

Society changes what they think people "should" look like - a couple centuries ago, all the women were supposed to have really big hips, for example. But what matters is taking care of ourselves mentally and physically. Your body doesn't have to fit anyone else's idea of perfection; it just needs to be taken care of. ❤️

I’m Canadian but I’ve lived in France for over a year and this is so true. The bread and butter\jam for breakfast and it seems like everyone eats yogurt after lunch. There are so many aisles in the grocery store for yogurt. Only one option of peanut butter, if you’re lucky, but 1000’s of yogurts! From my experience French people do not eat at their desk or in their cars like we do in North America.

In Italy eating while walking or in your car is frowned upon. You HAVE to have a proper sit down meal and even if it's at work or in uni we take time to sit down together and talk. There's also a very ritualistic order. First dish (pasta, rice, soup or carb based dish), second dish (protein, either meat/poultry or cheeses, deli meats, sometimes even a yogurt) with contorno (side of vegetables or salad), then you'll have pudding which is 90% of the time seasonal fruit (clementines in winter are such a classic) and then an espresso. And then a cigarette if you smoke. But most of all you take the time to enjoy your colleagues or family's company. I remember being shocked when I first moved to the UK that at work only 2 people at a time would be allowed to go to lunch and they wouldn't talk to me but just eat their food while staring at their phone or reading a book.

Companies would exploit letting people eat at desks like crazy as a way to avoid giving them lunch breaks. At all of my jobs, we've had 15 minutes to eat lunch tops. The diet problem here is very complex.

@@jessicah3450 that’s awful! No one can eat a healthy, stress free meal in 15 minutes! Plus, you need some time to get that food down your belly and relax for a bit before you’re due back! When are companies gonna start accepting that PEOPLE NEED BREAKS! We can’t perform at peak level 100% of the time, and with work bleeding more and more into our personal lives we need to set boundaries otherwise they’d have us working 24/7!

In Spain we eat the same, morning is either a croissant with coffee and fresh orange juice. Or my favorite is multi grain toast with tomato and a olive oil and some salt , coffee and fresh orange juice. Also the coffee is always an espresso and it’s very tiny in comparison to the Starbucks portions for lattes etc. Lunch always has a small portion of soup or salad for appetiser and then second dish is meat or fish with veggies or potato or rice. Again the portions are so tiny. For dessert is always fruit or yogurt. And dinner is pretty much similar but usually it’s even more tinny and it’s usually a soup or a salad. Again dessert is the same. And after lunch and dinner we always have herbal teas or coffee( mostly an espresso for lunch) I usually will have mint tea for lunch and chamomile tea for dinner in order to help with digestion ( also chamomile is perfect to relax before sleep). Aaah and the snacks are usually a small sandwich with fresh bread or just two cookies with tea or milk or juice. Again small portions!

That's how some islands in the Caribbean are due to the European influence. A basic breakfast, heavy lunch and a basic dinner. Breakfast: omelette or sausage and crackers or cocoa tea and bakes (it depends on if it's weekend or week day). Maybe bread and avocado or porridge. Lunch: provision (fig, dasheen, yam, sweet potato) and meat (fish was more common before), soup, fish broth, pelau (rice and chicken one pot). Vegetables and beans are included too lol. Snack: fruits, yogurt. Our cakes are low in sugar (in some islands) but definitely not the flagship of our diet. Dinner: Honestly idk. Dinner really isn't important. Maybe just cereal or just tea. I just eat two scrambled eggs (No bread...just the eggs) The obesity rate in the Caribbean has gone up because of the Americanisation (KFC, refined carbs). I maintain my weight effortlessly by eating a strict Caribbean diet (as long as my portions are sane).

I'm Irish having lived in Germany and now in the US. So helpful to be reminded of how we should eat. To enjoy food, to not ban any certain food or food group. My dad used to say "a little of what you fancy does you good" and "everything in moderation". Portion size, less snacking and eating meals as a family are so important. I was able to loose weight eating family meals at home in Ireland growing up just by reducing portion size and not snacking. Thanks for the reminder to eat salad or a vegetable soup before the main dish. Bravo!

I've always struggled with my food relationship. I definitely use food as a reward far more often than I probably should. I've recently been very interested in the way that the French eat, not as a tool for weight loss, but because the culture seems to have a much more realistic and healthier mindset/approach than what I grew up knowing (in Canada). I'm English, having lived in France for many years. Cheese is eaten here before the dessert. In UK cheese is eaten at the end of the meal. The French have been putting on a lot of weight for some years. A lot of young men and women have sleeve ops, etc. I'm afraid I have to 'burst your balloon'. In wealthy countries most people are putting on weight. It's a serious problem. In France pizzas are widely eaten.

However, I recommend at least putting in the effort to learn basic phrases, like how to order food, ask where the bathroom is, etc. because French people notoriously don’t love Americans/the fact that Americans don’t try to speak the language at all when they visit

No way because I also use the M50! However, my video quality looks lowered when my videos are upload. I record on video mode on automatic setting with auto face tracker. I used the standard kit lens. I film on 1080 HD. But I have to export on 4k to show the highest quality which is time consuming, 4k cannot be watched on a phone too. Lolol. Help! Do you use the kit lens? What video settings do you use? How do you export your videos? Your video quality looks so great on my phone. I'm not doing something right on my M50. Thsnks a lot, love!!

Excellent ideas. I started eating the french way few weeks ago and pounds dropping off quite fast. But I started to miss my asian meals. I am from Singapore and Singapore is a food paradise. Anyway I Iearnt to incorporate that french mindful eating and still lose weight even eating rice & fish gravy asian style 1x or 2x a week at a smaller portion. Your videos reinforced my determination to eat more healthily. Thanks. You have a new suscriber.🙂

I live in the US and eat very similarly to this; LOVE soup and quiche, and clementines are my go-to snack! I also love a little brie or cheddar with an apple. One of the only differences in my diet-- I don't eat as much bread because it's hard to find "quality" bread at a regular grocery store, unless you go to an actual bakery where they bake it fresh daily. Most US chain grocers have "bakeries" in them, but if you read the ingredients in the bread, it's quite frightening. I try to get real sourdough whenever I can because I don't bake!

We do not eat the same thing five times in one week. I cook from scratch almost every single night, and we may have the same thing two times in one month, but never in the same week. I know a lot of people in America eat out nowadays, but most people cook at home and eat at home

Hi Lucie! I’m just watching you for the first time & I did enjoy this video . Just want to comment that we never eat the same thing for dinner twice in a week. In my family we might have chicken once,,then a beef dish, a pasta , pizza on Friday’s etc. The only time I might repeat a dish in a week is if I made a huge portion ; enough for a second night. Hoping to see more of your videos ! I will subscribe!☺️

I'm grateful that my parents gave me good eating habits and I've made sure to continue the habits. What I found funny was that you are under the impression that Americans eat the same meal five times in a week. I don't know anyone who repeats the same meal that often in a week. However, perhaps someone might do that if they have poor eating habits, i.e. eat fast food more often than they should. Wonderful video!
