My mom studied in Paris in the 80s, and these are all things that she learned and observed from Parisians back then, so I think your commentary is pretty timeless. I’m lucky in that she absorbed a lot of these attitudes and taught them to me in the States.

Stop and smell the roses. That is what my grandmother always said. I am an American who was raised in California. Also, I am 58 yrs. old! I have always lived a stress-free life. I would never deny myself any pleasure if it were in my budget. Love beautiful things and absolutely detest clutter. Classic styles and quality. Our home is our sanctuary, our comfort. I have always been the 'odd' one with my own peers. I always used to tell my friends that if they didn't stop for a little relaxation, they would grow old before their time. Guess what? ;) We have done well in life, we own our own home and have peace and contentment. A person really doesn't have to spend their entire life working.....and working more. Live within your means, below it if possible, and look for life's beauty. Love your videos. I find them to be refreshing.

It looks like I'm secretly French :-) I've always had a very similar approach to selfcare and beauty. There's one more thing I'd like you to mention - hair dye and gray hair. There are countries like US or my country for example where the gray hair is being frowned upon. Women are generally "required" to start dying their hair as soon as first grays appear. If not, people think the woman is unkept or "dirty". The younger generations have a similar approach to natural hair. I've even heard things like "natural hair is ugly and yuck and you should always dye it". I've never dyed my hair and a funny thing is that I got asked by a stranger on a street a few times what kind of products do I use to make my hair so shiny and healthy. Well, it's about what products I don't use - no dye, no styling products, no silicons :-) Just keeping my hair healthy and natural.
@Edukalebylucie3 жыл бұрын
That's cool to hear! I would say that most French women feel pressured to dye their hair once it starts to get gray, but things are starting to change!!

I’d love a more in-depth video on fashion, confidence, and finding your own style. I love how French women can be stylish regardless of their looks. It’s all personal and something they find for themselves (it seems), not just following trends. In the US, it feels more like fashion and cute (trendy) clothes are reserved for the “pretty” girls. French women seem to be so much better at embracing their unique qualities. What kinds of things do French mothers teach their daughters growing up to instill this style intuition and confidence in themselves? And where do they find inspiration? French women seem so strong and sure of themselves and their opinions, something I don’t see as much here in the US. Funny story, when I visited Paris in 2009, I remember seeing a teen girl with big naturally curly hair and it was so cute and it made me realize I never saw that hairstyle in my own high school, unless it was seen as very uncool. (Things are changing now though, thankfully) All the “pretty/popular” girls basically had the same hair. Blown dry and curled in whatever style was popular at the time. Been so much more interested in French style since then!

Great video by the way! I love all your content. 🙌🏼

1. They don't obsess over self-care or even think about it. It's something that comes naturally. They enjoy taking care of themselves. 2. Less is more for them. There is no grind culture. French people take things slow. Leisure activities are important.

What a great video! I am Eastern European living in USA and you are spot on. The cultural difference between the two is considerable. I feel as if going South to South America the change is even more dramatic. I see a lot of latino influence in the US and they very much focus a lot of time on all the things French women don't seem to focus on. Perhaps that's the source of discrepancy. We grow up with these habits and it's important to understand the source of why we do what we do. Low maintenance gives us time to focus on other things such as socializing, whereas high maintenance might look more perfect and provide joy in itself. Please don't explain yourself too much. It is a given that what you say represents only your opinions. No one should be offended.

@@Edukalebylucie I agree. I live in London, UK and obviously we have so much influence from France and the rest of Europe here. Hi there ! Im from Uruguay, South America, and here the culture is more similar to the european one. In Argentina and Chile is like this as well. Can you talk about traditional dishes like escargot and ratatouille? Can you also make a video about dietary restrictions and eating out in France? I am gluten free and while most places here in the USA can accommodate I want to know about the prevalence in France. Would it be hard for me to eat out? Are there many vegans in France/other dietary lifestyles? Do people get offended if you can’t eat gluten? Also what are thoughts on sparkling verses still water? No Pain, No Gain is toxic. The mindset is actually really common among people with chronic pain. Pain is your brain’s way of grabbing your attention that something is wrong. Ignoring the pain only makes your brain proverbially sound the alarm louder. It’s a vicious cycle that only leads to more and more pain.
