As a life long Pacers fan i'm very content with what's going on. Haliburton has evolved this team on whole other level unlike the Paul George era. The All star game is in Indianapolis this year-- first time in almost 40 years! I'm anticipating a deep playoff run this year. The east coast better watch out!!

Bill Simmons described the Pacers this year as “kind of like the 80’s Nuggets with three pointers”. Would it be accurate to call them a team that can score like there’s no tomorrow but not guard anyone? And out of curiosity, how is Haliburton without the ball in his hands? Just curious because he’s got a lot of points on top of double digit assists so that implies he’s had the ball a lot.

When he is available he has one of the highest iQs more then atleast 3 of the pgs u just named at that position 💀 he’s one of the last true playmaking pgs and would’ve been elite if it wasn’t for injuries but no here u are throwing in scoring point guards to back up no point forgetting that defensive and playmaking iq is also impactful to the game of basketball 😂

He checked every single box you can come up with for a perfect PG

I have to strongly disagree. This is the overreaction I expected from a lot of nba fans (especially those that don't watch games), but not from you Rusty. Hali is a good maybe even great (T20) player, however, he is FAR from a superstar. His numbers this year have been absolutely insane, from his assists to his scoring to his insane efficiency. However, the context behind these numbers is a key factor that needs to be addressed. Aside from buckets in transition, the pacers almost exclusively run a 5 out offense with many isolation plays, occasional screen actions, and slash + kicks. There is little genuine off ball movement or more complex actions in their offense, and it frankly reminds me of a college basketball scheme. They're also very high pace, #1 in the league by a solid margin. This is an offense (similar to Harden in Houston) that leads to juiced up individual stats and RS wins, but little post season success (especially with the lack of defense aside from Turner). Many of Hali's assists are "rondo assists", being passes to the hoop in transition or a basic pass to a wing in 5 out. In addition, he has been very efficient, but his buckets typically come either in isolation or transition. He's certainly a skilled scorer and smart player, but I can guarantee that atm his efficiency will experience a huge drop against strong perimeter defenses in the post season. His defense also obviously leaves a lot to be desired from a 'superstar'. Imo he's fun to watch, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I mean I'm happy for the pacers success so far and Hali's production, but a superstar? I would like to see how well this take ages in a few years. Its WAY to early to say he's a point god.

No it's not. They're looking like a 50 win team and there are no other all-star calibre players on the roster. All of these guys are ok to good roleplayers. Many of them came off the bench on their previous teams. If they go 50-32 he is a superstar.

King made the wrong choice trading him

I still think the Kings should have asked for more during the trade that moved Hali to the Pacers...sure both teams won at the end but it was obvious Hali would become a superstar, they could have asked for more picks in the trade.

It's obvious both GMs had asked for more than they received. That's how negotiations work in the real world. Getting rid of Buddy Hield is the equivalent to picks. You don't actually think that "we should ask for more" is an original thought that Monte and company didn't consider did you? They were negotiating this trade for weeks. If we left it up to the fans to develop the roster last year, the Kings roster would have Jae Crowder and Jaden Ivy. No Sabonis, no Fox, no Keegan. I don't recall a single fan saying we should get Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter. Perhaps it's because I'm an old boomer but I know my place; I'm a fan and Monte is a pro. There's nothing you and I considered that Monte hasn't. I agree with you about a few things though. Haliburton is a really good player that will likely become great and -wish- we got more. But myself and most other Kings fans are very happy with the trade.

Stop dropping the Superstar title so easily . He is balling but Stars and Superstars are made in the middle of playoffs . Consistency also plays a part . I like him but I’m not using hyperbole. Otherwise good shit .

I hate how everyone thinks CP3 is a point god, buddy has achieved barely anything on his resume, compared to Halliburton who is going to be better than CP3 all time

How the fuck are you going to see that? This pacers team the way it's structured is good in transition but not half court and relies on good ass shooting

So it's disrespectful to compare him to 2 of the best PG ever ? How about cp3 is levels above him on defense and Steph is on another universe as a shooter than him

Wrong, Curry, Jokic, Lebron, Giannis, KD and probably Embiid and Tatum are the superstars in the league. You prolly mean an allstar caliber player not yet a supertime
