Only thing i can think of is Oled screen and Uncompressed images. Also some people hate Meta to death so it might be a good option for those people XD Tho im curious if these limitations are about the adapter or the fact that games and steam vr doesnt support some of these (like haptic feedback, triggers and hdr)

The reason is that all those functions are game side. They can't be added by drivers. And because no game uses these functions Sony warns that they don't work. If they didn't at best it be dishonest, at worst false advertising.

Quite weird indeed. At first I thought that it could be a bandwith issue with display port but remember the whole PSVR2 thing works via USB on the PS5 (I don't know if compression is at place or they use a special protocol for data transfer there). The missing eye-tracking is a lack of software implementation it seems - so not enough effort went into that. Shame. Quite happy with my Quest 3 at the moment. I really can't think of going back from pancake lenses to fresnel lenses. But missing those important features the PSVR2 is just a mediocre headset for PCVR.

Except this is NOT targeted for those kinds of people. This is targeted for people who are both interested in PS5 VR gaming AND PCVR gaming. Now with this adapter a person can so both, while with PCVR HMDs you can only play PCVR games. I own a PS5 and a gaming PC and now the PSVR2 is the clear choice for VR headset, since I can play both PS5VR games and PCVR games. It's very simple, it's not that complicated.

That really sucks but I'm still quite interested in this headset if it really has uncompressed visuals. I am a 7 year pcvr gamer that still uses the Rift simply because it's the only affordable OLED pcvr headset(LCD just doesn't do it for me). I would love to get my hands on the Bigscreen Beyond but I could buy three psvr2's for the price of one Bigscreen Beyond since I don't already have lighthouses. Also I could see modders probably hacking features like face tracking to work in the future.
@willwastaken
@willwastaken 2 ай бұрын
I'm the same as you. I've had like 10 headsets now (Rift, Vive, Vive Pro, Quest 2, Pico 4, Reverb G2, Pimax, and more) and I cannot understand how all these clowns can tolerate LCD and compression. The amount of compression on USB headsets is actually disgusting, it makes everything unplayable. And the LCD displays make everything bleak and non-immersive. The Quest 2 is unusable. I used my Rift from 2017 until 2022, but in 2022 I got a Vive Pro 1 and modded it with GearVR lenses and a custom headstrap+headphone combo. The VP1 is the only headset that beats my Rift, simply because of the higher resolution and better lenses without any other drawbacks. I'm reaching a point where I'd like higher resolution, non-pentile displays, so I'm considering the Bigscreen Beyond. People often mention the glare and poor sweet spot of the Beyond, but my modded Vive Pro already suffers from both of those slightly (to be expected with a DIY 3D-printed lens mod), although it seems to be worse on the Beyond.
@Vazz
@Vazz 2 ай бұрын
@@willwastaken Yeah, I tried the Vive Pro 1 in an arcade and it looked great. Wish I could have afforded it at the time when they still sold it new. The first LCD hmd I bought was the Lenovo Explorer because it was cheap and I was curious about the higher resolution at the time. Boy was it awful. The colors were way less vibrant, you couldn't see details in dark areas anymore, the screen was dimmer, and it just felt more flat and less vr. The sweet spot was awful and don't get me started on the controllers and tracking. The next one I got was the Samsung Odysee+ because it had oled and same resolution as the vive pro 1. The visuals looked great but it still had those WMR hmd issues like tiny sweet spot and awful tracking/controllers, plus it was the most uncomfortable headset I've used. Then the Quest 1 came out and it actually had OLED and higher resolution than the Rift but because it didn't use a hdmi or displayport cable, the compression when playing pcvr stuff basically makes it look like an LCD screen. You'd think Meta would fix that but here we are years later with no uncompressed cable in sight for all their new Quests.
@willwastaken
@willwastaken 2 ай бұрын
@@Vazz Yeah it's honestly hopeless at this point, I doubt we'll see any more innovation for a long time. You can still buy the VP1 for around $450 in some countries, and if you get a used Vive kit on eBay you'll have 2 base stations and controllers which is all you need. I hated modding my VP1, felt like I was gonna break it, but I'm so glad I did it. It has easily replaced my Rift, and is quite a lot better in every regard except comfort and weight.

I’ll get the adapter as I already own the PSVR2 and a ps5. I believe that the reason they’re not doing the support for IT tracking foveated rendering and all of the haptics is because Sony opens those features to developers on the PS5. It’s up to the developer to utilize the haptics and the foveated rendering. The support Sony would have to provide to teach the developers of those games in the steam library would be a massive time investment. Developers have already had a hard time getting used to the features of the PS VR2. This is the reason why certain games have received bad reviews and then get better reviews when they utilize the features of the PSVR2. I would imagine Sony doesn’t want the blowback on them for the huge steam library that won’t be set up to use their haptics and foveated rendering. I would also imagine that when Sony sees how well received the VR headset is for the PC base they will begin to allow those features on PCVR via patch. I could also be very wrong and just puffing on Hopium.

What is the point? Ride the hype and try to sell some more headsets early. The best feature is the display. The OLED display makes nighttime racing and driving (or doing other dark games) a much better experience. The pentile diamond subpixel layout removes the aliasing and need for anti-aliasing or supersampling, where normal displays with a normal grid would need it as they prefer only perfectly horizontal or vertical lines (which never happens in games!!!). After that, Sony can work to get the extra features working over time with driver/firmware updates, or maybe iVry or DSX can enable them down the road.

Actually really excited for this. I'm curious to see what kind of video compression it uses over the cable. Since it says it needs DisplayPort 1.4 and goes over USB-C it should give us around 25.92Gbps data rate compared to the 2.1 Gbps the Quest 3 hits on average when connected with USB. I was really disappointed when I tried to move from my Rift S to a Quest 3 (ended up returning) and noticed how everything had what looked like compression artifacting even when using a cable. I wasn't on a low end machine or even using the wireless connection either. For me physical connection will always be superior because of the reduced latency and cleaner picture. The PSVR2 OLED screens also seem like they will be pretty great (unless they suffer from smearing). Only real concern of mine is comfort as the Rift S with some mods (cotton facepad cover + counterweights) is still the most comfortable headset I've ever used.

1) I hope Sony just half-assed the PR, with poorly translated misinformation. 2) I hope they didn't just cheap out on the adaptor and lose all the features by unsuccessfully separating the USB parts from the Video parts and giving insufficient bandwidth for HDR/ eye tracking etc. 3) I hope that openXR geniuses can get it working properly with the features intact. Otherwise, what a massive miss, Sony. Ugh. It would have made so much sense to properly support all features on PC. That way you can port your Sony PlayStation VR exclusives to PC fully intact (like synapse) and also give PC developers practise with DFR and eye tracking to create new experiences that can be easily ported back to PS5 players. The reason for the missing features is probably due to them having to design a more advanced adapter that has the extra hardware built in to it to support them as im sure all this device is doing is converting the video signal from GPU over display port and the camera tracking via USB as im sure the controllers need Bluetooth connection, so the adapter made by Sony is made to do the bare minimum to enable PC support im sure it was done to keep costs low and still give a reason to own a PS5 with this headset, if Sony wanted im sure they could make a more expensive adapter that could enable all the features, from my understanding the headset itself does not do the work load for the eye tracking thats actually processed by the PS5 hardware.

Half of the issues you listed need to be built on the actual game by the developers. If its not built into the steam version of the game then it won't be available on the PSVR2. I think that's reasonable. I suspect its the same story with eye tracking to some degree.

The point: if you don’t already have a VR Headset for PC, but have a PSVR2, you get added value out of it. Also, if you have a PS5 and are debating a PSVR2 or a PC-only headset, you can get this and you’re good to go for both. If you buy it ONLY for PC usage, you should get something else. DP cables are under $10 and often come with a monitor. I have some laying around doing nothing.

There is literally nothing else that you can buy for PCVR at 500 Usd/Euros that has the features even the nerfed version of PSVR2 have. 4k resolution + OLED + foveat rendering + 110 FOV + uncompressed quality + controlers and tracking included. This is still the best buy for PC VR in 2 months, which is actually depressing for PC vr enthusiasts.

Those features are only available through the SDK, which i thought would be available (at the very least) on future games. This has me thinking current PS games on PC don’t use the SDK, meaning the PlayStation SDK is not available on windows machines. I guess that makes sense since Sony wants to keep their proprietary tools on their consoles.

With everybody complaining that the PSVR2 doesn’t include eye tracking or HDR for PC because of those things are missing it makes it a terrible HMD for PCVR, I can only say what headset are you using what HMD are you using for your PC that has any of those functions now outside of the MQ Pro? Because the PSVR2 doesn’t have them this doesn’t affect your PCVR experience in the least seeing this how whatever headset you’re using now doesn’t have it either. Oled screen does give HLA a little extra pizzaz.

I play both PS5 and PC, so saving me the cash to buy 2 VR Devices is such a big deal for me. The complaint about this issue is only for people that don't have PS5 and are only aiming for PC connectivity. If you don't have a PS5, then why settle for this? Just get other VRs in the market that are mainly for PC if so.

You don’t need eye tracking or haptic triggers. The headset is just a high-quality headset at a decent price. It will still be lighter and more comfortable have better field of view a better light seal to your face and run better than a quest plugged into the PC. Like yeah no crap the eye tracking and haptic Triggers won’t work. Those things have to be coded directly into the game and being that those features are exclusive to PlayStation they are not on any PC games.

Just the OLED to me is worth it. I used to use the Rift S and went to Quest 3. I think the PSVR2's OLED is just so much better than both. It is also very comfy. Of course they don't want you to use their PSVR2 more with their PS5. They want people to buy that more than letting you use it on PC.

Many people don't seem to fully understand this: In my opinion, Sony does not intend to sell the PSVR2 to customers interested in PC VR. It looks to me like they want to give existing PSVR2 customers another way to play VR games. And let's be honest, even many PSVR2 games on the PS5 don't support features like eye-tracking or the special rumble feedback either.

The only big bummer to me is that we won't be able to use eye-tracking on PC for dynamic foveated rendering aka free performance boost. I can live with all the missing features and will enjoy using my PS VR2 on PC immensely, but it's hard to believe they couldn't make those features accessible somehow. If it is possible, I hope they add those features over time or modders somehow make them work. But I'm skeptical.

it seems like this is the solution for people who ONLY have PSVR 2 and want to connect it to the PC Right now I have Quest 2 and PSVR 2 so I'll be grabbing this since the quest can't really connect to steam (at least that I know of out of the box without some kind of background exploit or hack) so this is the obvious solution for me personally

Not sure what the fuss is, apart from the games that are on PS5 using PSVR2 that support those features, those are not really standard features for many other games. I kinda expected them not to work anyway, any other VR sets don't have them, so many developers that mainly support other platforms wouldn't probably bother adding those anyway as the marketshare for the PSVR2 on PC isn't probably going to be particularly large. I mean, I wouldn't mind, it would be cool, but that's a bit of extra work for the game devs too. Sony would have needed to make a Windows compatible development kit for those to be supported and current games would need to retroactively include them in their builds... and add support for them etc. It's not like you just flick the switch on them. I'm just happy I don't need 2 headsets, it's a bummer that the features are not included, but it makes sense from multiple viewpoints. HDR might be the only one that could be something that didn't need as much work if game already supported it. EDIT: Ok, watched bit further in the video. Seems like some of them are kinda standard features, I wonder is it part of some VR standard to support the rumble and eye-tracking or are they part of some proprietary stuff from the other headset developers?

Those exclusions are such a deal breaker. I sold my Quest 3 a few months ago and have been looking to buy another PC exclusive headset, that will work with Display Port directly, and was really getting excited for this one. I mean, OLED, eye tracking and not only controller rumble but headset rumble? Sounds fantastic! And now they say none of the features you'd want the headset for will even work...what the hell is. the point then??? The only hope it has is someone hacking the program to get. the features to work again, or its dead on arrival.

Unless the games have been programmed to use that, which not many if any have on pcvr, then it wouldn't matter. HDR probably the only exception. I think it's not possible to use haptics and eye tracking because PC games fundamentally don't support them. Specifically, I see eye tracking as a big problem because it is closely related to rendering the scene. Game developers would have to completely redesign the rendering in the engine. Additionally, Sony probably wants to protect these technologies since the competition doesn't have them yet. So from my perspective, it was to be expected that these features wouldn't be functional.

The cable isn't included probably to bring the adapter down to the price of £50. There is a lot of variation on desktop and laptop configurations. Consider the following... - computer with display port output only - computer with mini display port output only - computer with type-C display pass-through only - computer with HDMI only Which cable should they bundle? We can buy the cable that converts from their display output type into the display port input or buy a standard display cable same at both sides for a couple of pounds. If we want to, we might be able to exceed the quality of the cable that might have been bundled. If the audience is already a tech enthusiast PC gamer, they will more than likely already have a spare anyway. The USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Display Passthrough specification is 1.4 alternative mode, which is why the Display Port cable must be a minimum of 1.4. You can use a higher rated 2.1 cable and will be backwards compatible.

I own a PS5, PS VR2, and a high-end PC. I was excited about the idea of using my PS VR2 on PC with the features it supports, but they have decided to provide a half-baked solution for PC that doesn't take advantage of any of the features that PS VR2 has to offer. My PS VR2 collects dust because the Quest 3 is a better product and offers a better overall experience, so I use that instead and rarely have a reason to play PS VR2. The only time I purchase a VR game on PS5 is when they offer PS VR2 adapter trigger support, so not having that on PC makes it completely pointless. Just for reference, if you connect a PS5 controller to the PC you get adaptive trigger support for games that support it on console (E.G., Rainbow Six Siege). If you can do it with the PS5 controller without additional software Sony should be able to get the PS VR2 adaptive trigger support working on PC.
