Psalm 40 1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.

I'll never forget when I saw this concert on MTV. When MTV used to be about music. I think it was back about 1984. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've never been so moved when I heard this song. I was 25 yrs. old back then. I'm now 52 yrs. old and the song still moves me just like back then. Thank-you U2.

U2 concerts are like going to church but with incredible music and message. I feel so amazing after these shows. For days.

Agreed. Just saw them here on west coast of Australia. I have heard several people describe it as a religious experience. Both spiritual and atheists.

They were truly amazing back then. I saw them in New Haven, CT, the Joshua Tree tour...they rocked that place to its core, left us like this leaving the stage one at a time until only Larry was left...we all sang all the way back to our cars...it was incredible. I never did get to see them again.

In '84 or '85 got last minute tickets to see U2 at The Spectrum for the Unforgettable Fire tour. A pal and I drove 4 hours to arrive in time for the concert. It was outstanding! We stayed a long time through 40 but finally decided we had to beat the traffic so left while everyone was still singing long past Bono had left the stage. A good distance from the Spectrum as we were getting to our car the Spectrum doors burst open and the we could hear the crowd still singing 40 as they walked out...

I have played drums with a worship group at church to this song many times, and it has always been very powerful not only for the parishoner's, but for me and the group as well. I love U2, and this song really stands out as one of my favorites.

The young Bono's voice, soul, and passion was just awesome to watch and listen to. Sigh...I regret that my kid's generation doesn't have a 'young' U2 to look to for comfort and companion.

Well, at least they're always here to discover. I got into them when I was 10, and they have been something of a religion for me in the seven years since.

Man, you can't give up. I'm a breast cancer survivor who found my own tumor. Thought it was enormous. Turns out with help of fantastic surgeon, just stage one. No lymph node involvement. Still lost my hair to chemo. Bald as a ping pong ball. Sucked bad since I had waist length hair. Donated it to locks of love. Some kid is rocking some awesome hair. Just hang in there. Much love.

I have a chronic condition, albeit non-terminal, but I've likewise told her this song must be played at my funeral. Our song, like our lives, will be changed from a funeral dirge to joyous exultation. Like his Son, those who trust in His name are seeds, sown into the ground that will spring to eternal life, first in spirit, then in physical reality on the last day. I look forward to this eagerly, like the psalmist who wrote the words and the musicians who perform it here. God bless you, Andrew!

Truly inspired, and like others, I was moved by this song as a teenager in the 80s, at a time when I knew nothing of the psalms. Still fantastic after all these years. I hope and pray that U2, and particularly Bono, will sse and hear this and be touched by the Living God who inspired this song all those years ago

I couldn't agree more! That night, Bono's voice not only reached across the amphitheatre, but into everyone's heart as well. They're not the type to beat people over the head with their faith, but you know where their hearts lie.

It was this performance of this song that made me a crazy fan of U2. Bono was so darn passionate and performed like it was the last concert/song he'd ever be a part of. Unfortunately, U2 lost some of that passion along the way. So nice to go back in time and experience it again. Oh, and Andrew, peace on your journey my friend.

It's astounding that The Edge and Adam Clayton switch instruments. Reminds me of that time in a video i watched when R.E.M. was doing a concert in 1989. Bassist Mike Mills was on the drums, drummer Bill Berry was on the guitar, and guitarist Peter Buck was on the bass. And then, they switched again. Guitarist Peter Buck on the drums, drummer Bill Berry on the bass, bassist Mike Mills on the guitar. Astounding.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. When I asked if they were "relevant", it was because my housemate here in Bel Air fancies himself an audiophile. The thing is, I do as well. He mentioned a few days ago "that U2 were irrelevant, had sold out long ago..." I took offense to his remark. True, I lost track of what the band has done since Vertigo, but I always said to anyone that would listen that to me, U2 was and is the Beatles of my generation. They took some heat for Rattle and Hum on account of the fact that all of a sudden they were laying down tracks with the likes of Dylan and BB King. But remember that thereafter the likes of Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, R.E.M., Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, the Rolling Stones, amongst others, have all chosen to work with U2. I think that alone speaks fucking volumes!!! You cannot confuse the Edge, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen Jr., and Bono's sound with anyone else's. History will record as much.

I love this performance so much and this for me is the standout song although the whole set is fab. This is when they has passion and it shone through.
