None of this matters if they don’t start building better vehicles . The vast majority of people I know and work with switched to Japanese and European cars years ago . We got tired of being served up noisy squeaky junk . Maybe the robots that will inevitably replace the workers can do better although that’s a bigger problem when hundreds of thousands of jobs are phased out . I want to buy American but when you drive 40-50k miles a year they just can’t be relied upon and that’s from personal experience.

Regarding the quality of the vehicles , the Big Three autoworkers have no input whatsoever as to the parts or materials used during the assembly. Actually, such decisions are made by the Big Three bean counters.

The unfortunate thing is Japanese manufacturers have lower labor costs, don't have to contend with unions, allowing them to spend more on the quality of the vehicle vs the quality of life for American employees. I worry situations like these compel companies to ship jobs overseas or replace employees with robots.

I can't believe that anyone could negotiate such sell out contracts as bad as those , and even have the audacity of claiming some kind of win for the Big Three autoworkers. Actually, basically nothing had been changed from what the Big Three auto companies had initially offered, and even the temporary workers and the two tier systems will remain in place. As for the 25% pay raises, well that only partially made up for the ludicrous concessions that the Big Three auto workers were forced to accept well over a decade ago. Regarding the COLA, I would have naturally expected that this would have been included in the prior contracts. Even with their current poverty level wages, the battery plant autoworkers will remain low on the totem pole with no pay raises whatsoever nor any COLA inclusions. Regarding the pensions, that was only somebody's pipe dream. Call it what you will, but these tentative contacts are downright lemons, and should be overwhelmingly rejected by the Big Three autoworkers.

@@AJones-oq6xc Back in the 1980s, the UAW did negotiate a so called "profit sharing" with GM. What followed was that GM chose to purchase both Hughes Aircraft and EDS with its excess profits as the company just couldn't see fit to have any of its employees share in the pie. Even worse, no sooner than the then UAW President Owen Bieber had signed on the dotted line (after he agreed to massive employee concessions), GM gave all of its executives hefty pay raises. Of the Big Three, GM has by far the worst reputation with forging cordial employee relations, and the company is simply not to be trusted.

GM stock closed at just under 29 bucks a share today. Imagine if their over 150k employees kept buying shares over time. They may not be on the board but they could have significant voting power.
