Here we do a table top review of the Uberti S&W No 3 44 Russian. This is a very well made handgun. The quality far surpasses my expectations. Well worth the cost.

Sadly a bunch of originals of these were destroyed in the UK a few years ago, they used to be antiques but they changed the law to ban them.

always wanted a top break.. fell in love with this gun after using it in battlefield 1 of all things.. its on the shopping list now.. very nice review. thanks. really with it came in .357 instead of 38 special though..

The Russian comes in either 45 Colt or 44 Russian however the Schofield is available in 38 Special. I'd love to see the Russian model offered in 38 Special. If you were to get the 45 Colt version you can send it to a gunsmith that I know of who'll modify the cylinder to use 45 ACP Moon Clips. I have thought of doing that.

In addition to the upgrades to the actions strength as given in the video, the modern reproductions have heat treated cylinders. Smith & Wesson didn't begin heat treating all of their revolver cylinders until sometime in the 1920s, with exceptions being US military contract Model of 1917 revolvers.

The Russian script on the barrel more or less says "Made at the Uberti factory in Italy"
@b.griffin3176 жыл бұрын
there is a "schofield" model of the same as this at my LGS which doesn't have the middle-finger spur or "hump back" on the grip. how desirable would these features on the "russian" be vs the one at my LGS? how much better handling is there really?
@ammosmith6 жыл бұрын
The New Frontier Model is like the Russian but without the spur. I like it because it looks pleasing to me. The spur helps in a few ways but it's not critical to function.

The inscription on the barrel roughly translates as followed: 3-rd Russian arms factory A. Uberti Italy.

*Why Uberti don't make the S&W No.3 Russian "Second Model" with 7" Barrel? Why They make the only S&W No.3 Russian "Third Model" with 6.5" Barrel ??*
@southslastrebel25755 жыл бұрын
Is that barrel too big to carry everyday?
@ammosmith5 жыл бұрын
Oh very much so. This is a very large handgun. It's more for reenactments and nostalgia than anything practical.

.45 Colt by far and large is much more easily found and cheaper than .44 Special is.

@Ken Kaneki it can depending on the powder charge

@Ken Kaneki id go with the .45. Heavier bullet, will penetrate that much deeper with all other things being equal.

Should have been chambered in .44 Special or Magnum which can fire .44 Russian by default.
@ammosmith6 жыл бұрын
44 Special yes. Magnum no...the frame isn't strong enough. Although measuring the chamber it does look like it was chambered in 44 special.
