They have a right to not fly the US flag over their campus for whatever reason from distaste for the government to "i think it's ugly af" I find it ever so hilarious when people make a big deal out of nothing solely due to upbringing, beliefs/religion, and/or blind patriotism/nationalism....in short leave the symbols to the "symbol"(simple) minded. All I can say is this is a mortifying example of everything wrong with modern liberalism. I was born and raised well behind enemy lines in the bay area in northern California. I consider myself a classical liberal I use this term because I feel as if the definition of the word liberal has changed. I believe strongly in individual rights and freedoms guaranteed too us by the U.S constitution "yes this includes the 2nd amendment too" but it appears that this no longer coincide's with the definition of liberal. By the way I am 24 years old I must be out of touch what happened to my generation!!?

***** You are correct and I saw it all happen. I am one of the older generation and many of us back then tried to sound the alarm about the radical lefts foothold in our educational system. Especially in the colleges. We were basically told to stop being silly and paranoid and that they ( the radical left ) had every constitutional right to say what they believed in to whoever was listening and as it turned out those who they wanted to hear them were a captive audience. Our young students. But the American way was "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend with my life your right to say it". It is an old American adage that is not proclaimed anymore because the left has replaced that old American value with political correctness which means "If you don't agree with what I say then shut your mouth or we will demonize you" In other words you will be accused of being in some kind of hate group. Because that is what opposition to radical liberalism is to them. Hate. They will never admit it but it is they, the radical left, who are the biggest and most harmful hate group. They hate our country they hate our flag they hate our military strength and they hate the constitution and most of all they hate democracy. Yes they hate democracy because democracy is basically majority rule and radical left wing liberals are in the underwhelming minority and the very thought of them living in a country that is governed by an ideology that they hate is just too much for them to take. There was and still is a vast left wing plan to take over the county and it is time to teach the young generations the real truth and not the liberal lie.

I would literally bet my life savings that the American flag was taken down by an American student. International students want to go to America to study and some moron is trying to make the school seem less American. No one is paying international student prices, going through the entire process to get a study visa, paying to fly to America, and working hard while probably hoping they can get a work permit after studying to stay in America, and then looking at an American flag on the wall with disgust. My wife is Filipina and I am Canadian, we have a Canadian flag on the pole I put in front of our property. I offered to put up the Philippines flag, she laughed. She is almost a Canadian Citizen after working hard for years and while she loves her culture, she wouldn't want to ever have to go back to the Philippines for any other reason than a beach vacation or visiting her family.

This is just so freaking idiotic. The reason for removing the flag is coming from either over righteous individuals who have no real life world experience or fellow immigrants trying to change things to suit their needs not the country's. The flag symbolized everything my family did not have but gained when we came here. It symbolized strength from unity which this country is losing. We came at a time when there was no such thing as being politically correct and never felt discriminated. Worked hard and assimilated into American society but at the same time kept our Hispanic customs at home. Why can I respect the symbol of what past immigrants built and died for and their descendants won't? I know where I came from and I know where my home is. I may not be an American by birth but I am an American by blood, sweat and tears!

ok i keep seeing this crap about the uc irvine and the american flag. i think what happened there was one of the most american things i have seen in a long time. people who were elected in into a pseudo government voted that the flag was not allowed because of blank. but thats not the american part about that story, the american part is a government in a free democratic state passed into law, a law that the majority did not agree with. so, you know what the majority did they made their voices known that they did not agree with the laws/choices that this small student government had made about the american flag. the majority then got the law/choices overthrown by coming together and saying i will not stand for this. that is american in every way. i think this should be a lesson to us all that we as the majority have the power to change anything that has to do with us as long as we stand together and make our voices known. i dont agree with their choices i spent 5 years of my life defending not just that flag but everything that the flag stands for and freedom of speech is one of the greatest freedoms we have. stop harassing these students, stop threatening these students and educate them on what that flag stands for. if they still think its a sign of imperialism let them its fucking america and lets do the american thing and allow everyone to have the right to say and think what they want and the great part is your allowed to tell them you think its wrong but do it in a humane manner they just put their big boy/girl pants on for heaven sakes. so when you get on your computer instead of trolling a 14 year old on youtube look up what our constitution says and tell them why america is great not why they should go to hell in a hand basket. ok
