The most underrated channel on KZbin. I don't care what genre you pick, when it was released, or what console it was on. If it's UCBVG I'm going to watch the entire thing. The disciplined timing of weekly uploads, with some of the highest quality content, is a workload most people just arnt capable of. Not to mention two of the most adorable helper pups on KZbin. For all the hard work you put into our entertainment, thank you sir. Please remember to take time for yourself whenever needed. Comments are usually family friendly here, so I won't say what I think about anyone who would disagree with that. edit: 100K is coming up! Hopefully people are getting the word out to support this awesome channel!

This one of my favorite Genesis games. It’s the only Ghosts n Goblins franchise game I’ve ever finished but I’ve finished it dozens of times. When Genesis first came out, it had the pack in game Altered Beast. Not too long after to promote console sales, they started packing in a coupon for a free game among select titles. I started saving when the Genesis was released and my best friend got one, and by the time I had enough money they were running this promotion. By this time, my friend had nearly half of the games offered so I grabbed the one of the two he didn’t own that wasn’t a sports game… and that game was Ghouls n Ghosts. I was so blown away by the graphics and creepy music… being a long time of Castlevania, it was right up my alley. It was a long time before I completed this game… I remember finishing the first loop and not completing the second because I could never hang onto the required weapon and hitting a point where you couldn’t (or at least I couldn’t figure out) how to proceed without starting a 3rd loop. By this time, I got distracted by other games… your Sword of Vermillion, Phantasy Star and countless clearings of Streets of Rage. Right around the time the Sega Saturn was taking a market share turn for the worse… Sega seemed desperate to push units. Toy stores and department stores were discounting Sega Game Gear, Sega Nomad and the Genesis 3 consoles for only $50!! I bought the Nomad and started playing my old Genesis games before bed, or mornings I didn’t want to get out of bed. This is when I really out the time and effort into mastering Ghouls n Ghosts. Once I finished it for the first time… I started beating it like once a week to remember all the patterns. I would beat it for friends so they could watch and they were always really impressed because they had all quit thinking the game was impossible. It was probably the first game people considered “really hard” that I could beat that my friends couldn’t… which only endeared the game to me more.

Man, you sound like the Sega nut I was back in the day too. It's a mixed blessing being a grown adult and having tons of games in my collection now, but back then, I and most of my friends only had 7 or 8 different games each. So, we played our same games again and again till we got really good at them. I did eventually do the 2-loop clear on this game too.

The original arcade version of this game weighed over 5 megabytes. Yuji Naka was able to pare the entire thing down to 5 megabits (640k) for the Mega Drive home release which is really something.
@McAllen072 жыл бұрын
I've played this enough to make an educated guess that the one thing Naka-san wasn't going to sacrifice when whittling the code down was playability. Everything felt smooth and responsive, with no input latency. If you missed a jump or walked into an enemy hitbox, it was all on the player.
@damondelgado46032 жыл бұрын
OMG 😱 I can't believe how much 5 megabytes weights! 🤣
@ChibiTheEdgehog2 жыл бұрын
Yuji Naka does not get nearly as much credit as he should most of Segas elite get ignored. He should easily be up there with Miyamoto. The dood was a God tier coder in the days when that was insanely difficult and you had no tools to help smooth the process
@homiedclown2 жыл бұрын
I really wish they had given him a larger ROM size to work with. The graphical detail is quite compromised in comparison to the arcade version, or even the 8 megabit SuperGrafx port. For the Sega port, they cut the intro, and really had to cut down on the number of unique graphics tiles in the Sega port, to squeeze it into that 5 megabits. This gives the port a rather plain look, even though the Genesis is graphically capable of much more. Gameplay-wise, it really nails it though.
@SuperN1ntendoChalmers2 жыл бұрын
@@homiedclown Yeah, that is so damn true. Look at Golden Axe. It was damn good, but if they had a bigger size cartridge to work with, who knows how much better the earlier arcade to Genesis game ports could have been...

Actually, it's a lackluster rendition in terms of graphics due to being a 5meg cart. Someone is redoing all the graphics for this genesis version. Check it out. I'm sure you'll be surprised. BTW, did you know that this version was coded by Yuji Naka? : ) Have a great Sunday.

Great video, but you missed two secrets: 1. In level two you can shoot the spinning fire windmill, and sparks will fly off. 2. When getting the key at the end of the levels, if you jump towards the key, press up and shoot up as you're getting the key it will say nice catch! Also, I think you are misunderstanding the ending text, it is in past tense , before the game.

Great guide as always! Didn't get a change to scroll through all of the comments to see if this was already said, but five things: 1. When jumping, firing down makes things a lot easier. 2. When fighting Cerebus (Infernomo), the mini-fireballs that fall down can be easily cancelled by firing your weapon up. (Knife magic makes this fight very quick and easy.) 3. Knife magic (a.k.a. doppelganger) will take out most bosses MUCH faster than Napalm magic. 4. Arthur travels faster horizontally by jumping instead of running. Useful when you're about to get crushed in Stage 3. 5. When Arthur is wearing Magic Armor, the Psycho Blaster erases all single projectiles. Especially useful against Beelzebub.

What makes the bouncing turtles in stage 2-1 so difficult is their hitbox does not match the sprite; the hitbox is more right. That means you can safely touch them on the left, but you can take a hit when you are right of them, despite it looking safe.

This is the first one I beat. My brother owned it. Didn't own the one for nes until after the snes was out but a kid in my neighborhood had it. God it was great back then. We owned damn near everything between us kids. We had the most and then almost 40 cartridges were stolen. You know it was a kid because they broke in and games were the only thing touched(glove, and joystick but no systems. Oh and 1 co2 pellet gun lol).they didn't take any of our turboG16 stuff and we still had games to play as they only took stuff from downstairs and all our systems were left. The cops did not care in the least. Sure it was a crime but They got in without damaging anything (we had several ways to enter when we didn't have our key) took only games ...Mom said he didn't believe that many could have been taken anyway. I didn't know that at the time. Eventually did take down the nes though.

I agree, but dont agree. Super metroid has horror elements.. but in my opinion, it is less horror oriented, and more isolation and exploration oriented. It has the rare jump scared like resident evil, or silent hill, or even the suffering had. Those were made to be horror, and scare the plauer through environment and gameplay. Metroid was exploritory and anticipatory fear, not the environmental fear developed by games like resident evil, or silent hill. I agree, but i disagree.
