UCLA lowered admission standards for black and latino students. There, I fixed it for you. There certainly didn't lower admissions standards for Asian, Jewish or White students.
@rnhim20727 ай бұрын
They probably had to raise standards for Asian, Jewish and White to make room for those other groups.
@lzkrishmom7 ай бұрын
And UCLA is not doing the student a favor. If they can't pass the exams, they are going to fail medical school with a lot of student debt.

Yup because data shows since the new dean of admissions for the medical school, Jennifer Lucero, came on board, just within 3 yrs the number Asians admitted dropped 30%, whites dropped 16%, and number of Latinos increased by 40%. The UCs are still practicing preferential treatment for certain groups although it’s been illegal for almost 30 yrs in CA, not to mention the Supreme Court ruled it was discriminatory and unconstitutional.

What happens when these students just barely pass and patients end up receiving the lowest standard of care??
@rachelcage41757 ай бұрын
In case you haven't noticed, that's already been happening to low-income, marginalized, and underrepresented communities so maybe they're realizing a high GPA and MCAT score does not guarantee that someone will provide the highest standard of care

Passing high school in California was also made easier a few years back, I believe you need a D average to graduate, Dont forget the lowering of standards to become a police officer or to join the military. Although those are mostly physical based

California State Universities have an annual budget of $230 million dollars for each of the 13 universities. This is big business. They will operate at maximum student capacity 100% of the time. Admission standards mean nothing whatsoever at any of these schools.

Soooo you should always question click bait headlines that don’t provide context to experiences the majority of their readership have ZERO knowledge about. Here’s a fun fact…. White and Asian students some percent of those will have low MCATS and you would never know because when you seek medical treatment, you don’t ask about MCATS lol you make an assumption and unfortunately some people based those assumptions on the race of the provider! If you want insight into what taking the STEP tests and MCATS are like then follow open forums. You’ll find tons of threads and reddits about test taking… failing… and retaking. ALSO unless this fool can prove that 50% of the students who took these test were not (and I’m quoting from some of the racist comments) white, Asian, or Jewish… then he should shut up! Could provide MORE context as to what’s going on with UCLA students (post pandemic and lock downs).

EEK but tell us more. What is the med school *graduation* rate and residency match rate for these admits? Very hard to match without passing step 1 (USMLE). Are they just hanging out at the school accruing debt and then flunking out or what?

I have friends that used to swear that US medical doctors were the best. I wonder if that will still be the case in the future. I'd probably prefer a doctor from a (cheaper) country, where I expect the system to be meritocratic in the future
