Charlie is clearly hating on David. He has been scoring goals at a consistent level for Lille for years; including the clincher to beat PSG to win the title in his first year. He’s building his case of being a Lille legend with his production. In Belgium he played more as a 10,came to Lille, started more as a second striker now plays up top alone; great work rate, pressing and intelligent striker. It’s more of he’s not in a top 4 league and he’s Canadian that the bias is showing. Furthermore, it shows they actually don’t watch the player to give a proper assessment on Jonathan David.

He’s a solid striker for sure and one of the best, if not THE best in concacaf, but that’s not saying much. Davies and Pulisic are the only two “elite” players from concacaf right now

He's been consistent in Ligue 1 and Europe for years on relatively weak LOSC squads. I wouldn't call him "elite" in the realm of Lewandowski, Gyokeres, Osimhen or Haaland but I would say on a squad with good playmakers he'd be comparable to an Ollie Watkins or Dominic Solanke. Although he hasn't shown enough on that front quite yet, I think come this time next year it'll be a very different conversation based on if he gets transferred in January.
