Unfortunately, it is interviews such as this that replicate a great deal of the misinformation about V.S. Ramachandran. Ramachandran is often introduced as The Director of the Center for Brain and Cognition. The Office of Graduate Research at UC San Diego does not recognize the CBC or Ramachandran's claim to be a "Director" of a research center. It should be noted that the so called Center for Brain and Cognition has no UC San Diego faculty members (other than Ramachandran), no post-docs, no brain imaging technology and no research grants. Hence, the need to use those "old fashioned, low tech methods" that Ramchandan likes to boast about. Also, many people believe that Ramachandran is a neurologist, but in fact he in not a member of the neurology faculty at the UC San Diego Medical School. He has never been licensed to practice medicine in California and he has never participated in clinical research.

Austin Gallaher "The Center for Brain and Cognition (CBC) at the University of California, San Diego, under the directorship of V.S. Ramachandran..." "The center [for Brain and Cognition] has three laboratories: the Brain and Perception Laboratory (headed by VS Ramachandran), whose focus is on neurological disorders as well as normal visual perception. Second: the Attention and Perception Laboratory headed by Professor Hal Pashler. Third: the Integrative Neuroscience Program headed by Professor John Smythies. " "The CBC has received funding from the National Institute for Health (NIH) Office of Naval Research (ONR), Air Force Office of Scientific Research(AFOSR), Kavli Foundation, McDonnell Foundation, and several private donors." "Ramachandran has published over 180 papers in scientific journals..." - meaning that he's conducted plenty of research... - UCSD Also, the belief that he is a practicing clinical neurologist is merely the ignorance of the laymen (though most people refer to him as a neuroscientist, not a neurologist). He in fact practices neuropsychology (aka behavioral neurology), which would cause his department classification to fall under psychology and not neurology. Much like psychology has many different factions, so does the study of the brain....and much like psychology, there are areas of neurology that allow you to conduct research with a PhD. Just throwing that info out there

I assume you are merely repeating the material you have found on the CBC Web site. It is not accurate. When I checked with the Vice Chancellor for Research (Sandra Brown, who is herself a professor in the Psychology Department) she had never heard of the Center for Brain and Cognition. Her office maintains the official list of all Official Research Units at UC San Diego, and the CBC is not on the list. Hence, it is not a "Center" and Ramachandran is not a "Director". John Smyties, who is now in his early 90s, has no official position at UC San Diego, although he does live in La Jolla. John Symthies was involved in the psychedelic revolution, so to speak. He theorized that psychedelic chemicals (such as LSD) mimicked schizophrenia. There is no such thing a an Integrative Program in Neurosciences Program at UCSD or in the Psychology Department. It exists only in the imagination of V.S. Ramachandran. Hal Pashler, who is indeed a professor in the Psychology Department, makes not mention of any connection to the CBC. I suggest you contact him directly to determine the accuracy of Ramachandran's claim that his lab is part of the of the CBC. Ramachandran did receive (as an individual) a very small grant from the Kavli foundation during its initial year of operation. However, there is no ongoing funding for any research at the CBC because it is not an ORU. Most of the grants you cite were made over 20 years ago and they had no relation to any research done at the CBC. For example, the Air Force Office of Research funded some of Ramachandran's visual imaging research in the late 1980s.(One can only imagine that this research may have had some relevance to identifying targets.) Some of Ramachandran's correspondence regarding his research has been recently declassified by the Air Force and you can find it on line. (It makes for interesting reading.) Your best bet is to contact the UCSD Psychology Department directly and ask them to give you a run down of what they know about research being done at the CBC. Please note that the web pages for the CBC are not official UC San Diego web pages. The university has no responsibility for anything presented on the CBC web pages and to tell the truth they seem very reluctant to make any comments on its legitimacy.

Austin Gallaher "Many people believe that Ramachandran is a neurologist..." Who are these "many people?" What is your motivation here to discredit Dr. Ramachandran?

+Austin Gallaher After reading your uninteresting dissertation, I was also wondering what your motive was. Especially since people like you show up at this time in someone's life. Where were you when he was doing all this worthless research in the 80s and up and was healthy?

Austin Gallaher you seem to have some personal problem with Dr. Ramachandran since you are discrediting him in every video on youtube and also this link "motherboard.vice.com/read/letters-to-the-editor-drugs-drugs-drugs-amazon" where you have been given a befitting reply.
