UDON THANI TO BANGKOK TRAIN: EXHAUSTING JOURNEY!

I figured 10 hours door to door from Udon Thani to Bangkok. I was wrong.

Flights are $25 for a one hour flight. Even with going to the airport etc. the total trip would be less than 3 hours. Plus udon Thani airport, there are no long waits etc. and no going through immigration on arrival. A flight seems like a no brainer. If you fly into BKK then you take the airport rail link straight into the center of town. He spent 250 baht for the train and 500 for the taxi. He could have spent 900 baht on the flight plus 35 baht for the rail link directly into the center of town. He said in the video the train was quick but you could tell he was questioning himself about that 😂. Also , he mentioned taking the battery out of his phone? What security checkpoints is he going through. The only thing I’ve seen is they ask you to take your laptop out of you bag, not all that inconvenient.

Never use taxi in Bangkok if you can make the journey by BTS or MRT as the roads are nearly always gridlocked.

Eddie, I'm staggered you didn't take the MRT (underground) from Bang Sue to Sukhumwit (Soi Asoke) you'd have been in your hotel two hours earlier.

It looks like you arrived at Bang Sue Station, Eddie. For future reference, there's an MRT station there, so you can take it to get to Sukhumvit quickly

I simply walked off the arrived train from UD, followed the signs in Bang Sue ( eh eh get to that later ) to the Red Metro. Changed metro modes to SuKLine and BTS than en-route and departed off at Nana stop. Took about 20- 25 minutes from Bang Sue to Soi 11. Government has made it so easy can't understand why any one would take a cab. Heavy luggage maybe, but really, unless you need a camel to carry your stuff, just take the subway.

I love 3rd class Thai trains better characters catch'em , I always end up chatting to the locals en route. Great scenery too. I'm gonna be doing the same journey in reverse this summer , but breaking it up with stays at; Ayuttaya, Pak Chong (Khao Yai) , khorat khon ,kaen , udon then Nong khai . I've done mad travel days like yourself before, but I've learnt my lesson. Nothing over 4 hours in future for me . That looked gruelling 8-10 hours or more . Although , it makes great television . Get rid of that suitcase Eddie ; treat yourself to a smaller case and buy some nice light weight polo shirts from chicken near Macdonalds on beach road…get a condo my friend it’s so much cheaper…

I like train travel (being an ex train driver probably helps!), a lot more relaxing than road travel. At Bang Sue Grand you should have headed down to the MRT Underground line it's (like the Merseyrail) and taken the train to Sukhumvit, for less than 50 Bhat. That station is at the Sukhumvit Road by the Asok Skytrain station junction. You could walk, or get a tuk-tuk from there. A whole lot cheaper, and quicker!
