Low kicks, high kicks, straight punches, hard blocks, elbow strikes, knee strikes, takedowns and sweeps are KEY ELEMENTS for karate fighting.

I studied in Okinawan 1964, nothing Americanized about him the GI's have just changed to accommodate larger Okinawans, more Japanese if you ask me, if that was Americanized he would be wearing a GI with Stripes Neon lights and Polka Dots, with McDonald advertising on the back.

Those who are really into Karate know how much practical self-defense techniques Ueichi-Ryu has when compared to other Karate styles. This style nearly died off due to the non flashy techniques after WWII. Ueichi-Ryu has not changed much at all since their founding. Hell, you know you are in a true old school Uechi-Ryu when they have less than 3 katas. Katas for this style traditionally was never needed as they focused purely for self-defense. One of Okinawa's best karate fighters was of Ueichi-Ryu who also almost beat the shit out of the founder of shotokan. Those of you who want to go down the karate sport avenue, pick a sporty Japanese Karate, those who want practical self-defense only go Okinawan Ueichi-Ryu, if you prefer aggression pick Kudo (Daido Juko).

I agree. A skilled kicker would drill to the face and with blazing speed he he could KO a person before you knew what happen. Good basics are a must. Even with skilled boxers who have high skill and get away from basics because of there athletic ability. When they get older the same habit cost them.
