Ilia's physicality shocked me. Especially in the brief clinch tussle they had. He's also smarter than people give him credit for. He picked up on the fact that Volk gives up space really easily (he's always done this) because he's so comfortable boxing off the backfoot. Volk is also super vulnerable when firing off counters off the backfoot because his chin is raised and exposed. You absolutely can't do that against a smart pressure fighter who hits as hard as Ilia.

Firstly, congrats on 2k views and your first 1k subs!!! 🍾🥂 I got one back on u though 😜 the reason I thought Ilia was going to put Volk away was because in both the Islam and Yair fights, Volk got cracked and somehow managed to fight through it. Even in his fight against Ortega, going in to the last round with Ortega all beat up, he got cracked and out struck by Ortega in the final round. I knew Volk was going to get cracked and none of those other guys crack like Ilia. I was still very sad to watch him lose and he was looking good in the first round. I do wanna see him get a rematch even though I think he will lose again, I think he needs that to realise he needs to move on. ilia said that he would probably give Volk the rematch because he's such a nice guy 😂 Crazy thing is, I thought Ilia was going to beat Volk but I don't know if he gets past Max. I think Max has a better chance of beating Ilia than Volk. I don't see Ilia being able to put Max away and in a pure boxing match I think it would be very competitive. I also think Max has a better chance against Gaethje than everyone thinks. Keep smashing it Angie! This channel is going places 🤘🎉

Tbh I don't think his chin is gone although the punch did also look effortless. When I first watched it, I was so surprised that Volk was immediately flatlined. But, I think it's just that Topuria threw with maximum power and had a ton of momentum + Volk moved into the punch + he didn't see the punch coming + it landed right on the jaw, causing maximum skull rotation. All those factors act like mini force multipliers.

These guys work and train and fight their whole lives to become the best, the money making window is small and slams shut quickly..Doctors don't generally let guys fight if they are having concussion symptoms, I guess my point is that the wealth a fighter can acquire con last a family several generations, while a reputation or "legacy" is fleeting, it's not real..In a hundred years no one will know who Volk was, but his family will still be enjoying the fruits of his efforts..And Topuria will only continue to improve, so a rematch in 6 months would probably be better than a rematch after a year..Sports psychologists are so important for fighters to navigate these challenges.
@spicemma9 ай бұрын
You are right. It really puts it all into perspective when you think of it in a historical context. It's healthy to know what's really important. I know Topuria is only gonna get better, but I feel like sooner or later isn't gonna help Volk win either way. But his bank account will win for sure!

Good video, but I gotta say that a lot people have been questioning Alex's chin, but I don't think is his chin, I think is just Ilia. Right now Ilia has 57% of KO in the UFC and the 3 KO before this where exactly the same (including a 155 guy). So I stay with what Aljamain Sterling said, anyone who would have got that punch would have been out cold.

@valkyriot9 ай бұрын
@@spicemma yep, they didn't, but there are still some factors to take in consideration, for instance, Volk's head was moving to Ilia's hand. For instance, Dustin vs Connor, the punch that KOed Connor wasn't the strongest, it was the one that connected against Connor's head movement. Also, a bit of insight information. Franco Tenaglia, a barenuckle fighter who trains in the same gym of topuria, said that you don't dimension how strong Ilia is until you spar with him, that is basically unatural to have that KO power with that weight. Kind regards, I'm looking forward to watch more of your videos.

As a spaniard and Topuria fan, Volk is the best champ I've ever seen, and I mean this as a combination of both his professional and his personal side. He's a legendary fighter, a true mixed martial artist, and besides his skills and technique he also seems like a truly wonderful person. I am a fan of him too, but having a fighter representing your country (as you absolutely know) overpowers everything else! I didn't see a washed up volk the other night. He was winning, finding his jab very well and throwing very menacing kicks, both upstairs and downstairs. I was truly terrified for our boy until he just blitzkrieged Volk trapping him against the cage. Maybe you're right and all the wars are catching up to him, but I really think Topuria has dinamite in his hands and landed a perfect right hook. I dont think anyone in the division could survive a punch like that, right on the button. He got caught by Ilia before the KO, and ate those shots pretty nicely. As I said it's entirely possible you're right, but I really didn't perceive it that way. I just think Ilia is really, really good; better than everyone (me included) thought. I think Volk has a good chance of winning back the belt against Ilia if he takes a good rest before the fight. He is still as dangerous as a fighter can get. Great analysis either way👌🏼, you earned a new sub right here!
@spicemma9 ай бұрын
Thanks for your tribute to Volk. It's great to hear others perspectives. I do think Volk looked good, maybe Topuria is just that powerful. He didn't KO Bryce or Emmet ( Emmet especially been through the wars ) and they didn't fold like a deck chair which tells me either Volk has a terrible chin regardless or not of the Machchev KO. Still! I really think it was the speed that made all the difference and of course the tech. Topuria is the complete package, I kinda like him a lot and think he will be a great champ! To be honest, I really can't see Volk standing a chance in a rematch at this stage... Congrats to your Country!
@DrThebussen9 ай бұрын
@@spicemma Those are fair points, actually. In a conscious effort to preserve my bias towards Topuria being the better fighter, I'll still consider Volk to be very close to his prime. Emmet has nasty KO power and Ilia said last week to DC how he had to be very careful when stepping into the range of that overhand. He caught him plenty of times during those 5 rounds, but none as flush as the hook we saw last Sunday. And regarding Mitchell, I like to think Ilia wanted to prove to all MMA fans how he could easily defeat the grappler in his own game and showboat his BJJ. I really, really like Volk, and I am refusing to believe he's done for just yet... I don't see him winning the rematch either based on what we saw in the fight, but he very well could surprise the world with some rest and a few adjustments on his gameplan. He´s The Great, after all! And thank you so much! We couldn't have ask for a better fighter representing us. UFC is coming to my city thanks to him, and I am ecstatic!!!!

At some point in your analysis I thought I heard you say that the blow that knocked out Volka didn't seem that strong, and the truth is that I was a little surprised by that reflection. In my opinion it was a blow with all the strength of Ilia's body, in fact, Ilia makes a lateral movement before that blow precisely to accommodate his feet and hips in order to execute a powerful blow. What happens is that there are three factors that add up, one, is that the blow itself comes with great force, two, is that it hits right on the chin, and three, is that it comes from a trajectoy that Volka is unable to see. The bad thing about taking a punch from a trajectory you can't see is that you can't clench your teeth or generate force with your neck to absorb part of that blow, so anyone, Volka or any other fighter, would have been knocked out with that same punch in those same circumstances.
@spicemma9 ай бұрын
I think what I meant to say it that it looked effortless- not too take from the force of Ilia's punch but it looked unreal! It's hard to describe such things. Yeah It makes sense those things will come together, but he made it look easy. Credit to Topuria, that's how good he is. But I still have a feeling Volk coulda withstood that a couple years ago, or maybe seen it. Who knows?
@nelnanbanjin44709 ай бұрын
@@spicemma Yeah it's difficult to say, If he could have seen the punch coming he could have absorbed some of the impact of that blow, perhaps at another time he would have been able to do that, I agree. But in his words, and that of many other professionals, I think the majority of the consensus has been that no matter who had been in that situation, that punch from Ilia, in the circumstances in which it was given, would have knocked out the majority of professionals, it was a hard impact, on the chin and from a trajectory outside from the range of vision, it is something similar to being hit with an accurate punch from behind, if you do not see it coming, it is very likely that you will end up knocked out. It is certainly impressive that Ilia manages to put together those trajectories, combos and counters in such an efficient way, I think Volk simply couldn't avoid ending up trapped between Ilia and the fence, that made it difficult for him to defend himself and Ilia capitalized on his advantages. Volk himself and other fighters do not believe that his knockout was in part due to him losing his chin, just... shit happens, and that blow would have turned out the lights for most professionals in my opinion.

@@spicemma yeah I reckon in the next 5-7 years we are gonna see some real killers making their way into the rankings from Aus. There's even some major talent down here in Tassie which goes to show how deep the roster is. I reckon Australia is one of, if not the most talent dense country in the world considering our population is so small. Hopefully Gilbert is a good test for JDM and we get to see how he performs under adversity. Rumour has it he's a beast in the gym and his grappling is really good. I don't know what it was, but the entire week leading up to the fight felt like a requiem for Volk. Like it was the end of his reign. I always had that feeling. But also looking at the fight, I figured that Volk would be outpointing Topuria and winning most the exchanges, but Topuria is just a wrecking ball in the pocket. When he lets his hands go all those shots are hard to see coming, and he just needs one to flatline anyone. Volk didn't have the power to keep him off, and Topuria just walked him down and dictated where Volk went.

The chance of KO was VERY probable and when it happened, I guess it felt a lot like ripping off a bandaid. I also feel this fight deserves to be ran back. Volk's earned it and there's not enough competition/draw from another contender (unless max) with Ilia. Evolev vs winner of Yair/Ortega seems obvious and there should be enough time for Volk to FULLY recover for a rematch later this year.

i'm not trying to be an armchair quarterback or whatever they say but i think Volk could have had a better game plan. He was throwing lots of left kicks (which makes sense because then your head is moving off centre to your own right and away from Ilia's powerful right hand) but he was throwing them from orthodox, so they weren't as powerful as they could have been from southpaw. and Volk was constantly moving to his own left (TOWARDS Ilia's powerful right hand) i think it would have been better if he fought southpaw and constantly circled to his own right (towards Ilia's left) and threw very hard southpaw left kicks to Ilia's body and right arm, with the odd head kick mixed in sneakily.

Agreed that I don’t want to see the Volk rematch but I feel like that’s what they’re going to do. Probably in the fall in Spain. Don’t really want to see Volk move up to 155 either. Agreed he should fight Strickland next. Costa, who knows lol. Don’t really care. The UFC is just more fun with him around whatever he does. I knew Ian would callout Covington. That’s the next fight to make in my opinion and I’m here for it. I think that fight plays out similar to the Edwards fight but Ian pieces Colby up even more on the feet. dont worry you'll get a new australian champion in JDM mark my words

I hope so, he does have that aura about him and has overcome some tough situations too. I was really high on him but at this elite level, gonna wait and see. Hoping its the right time. He has covered a lot of ground in a very short amount of time. But hey guess its just a matter of time that he fights for the belt!

Volk looked great. Even if volk never took damage his whole career, a punch like that is still going to drop him

Ya think? ..you could be right. I'm still not sure.. but I guess he's never faced someone with that much power....
@scottclaremont41649 ай бұрын
@@spicemma Jose and Mendes have power. I don't think it was the power as much as it was placement. Sugar doesn't have power, but he's got timing, and he drops guys. I wanted to see Volk stay in the middle and double leg. But that's not his thing

I like Volk but he got too cocky in wanting to fight Islam again because Islam wasnt going to make the same mistakes again, also that knockout has weakkend Volks chin forever.

I agree that his ego has probably been getting in the way a bit inside the octagon. And sadly, I have a feeling that his chin is gone also..
