I'm astounded by how much of this is covered in HEMA texts. The Americana (Upper Key) wrist lock against the knife is a classic play that shows up in countless dagger manuscripts (Wallerstein, Mair, Fiore, etc), and the pant leg grab as a defense when grabbed from behind is mentioned in several Ringen / wrestling books as well. Just goes to show, effective fighting never changes!

I actually did throw salt in someone’s eyes years back. I had a twacked out guy in a trap house that was a friend but absolutely out of his mind. He was going to attack another friend and I’d warned him, and being out of his head he didn’t see the oversized salt shaker with the top off and in my hand. It definitely stopped him, spent an hour or so nodding at the sink washing it out.

About pocket sand. I got spoken to rudely while I was writing a poem on the roadside one night by three guys. They looked nervous. I guess I had a very intimidating no nonsense presence when I responded to what they said, I replied “just writing, leave me alone” and I noticed the middle guy had a bright red object in his hand. The guy had a giant red chilli pepper. Immediately recognising it as a weapon which would blind me I got up and kept moving, they gave chase so I ran to a local kebab shop which was very busy and tore my shirt off revealing my superior physique (compared to the three guys chasing me) and said COME ON DEN YA FOOL LETS GO! I can’t remember if we fought or if they just talked their way out of it but I do remember winning, either way. Love bro your videos are important.

Situational awareness or presense of mind, quick physical reactions or reflexes, mental strength or toughness, composure or self-confidence, resourcefulness, the instinct or the will to fight back and defend yourself, knowing when to fight back or when to just run away as fast as you can, avoiding people places and situations that potentially lead to heated altercations or violent encounters, and your martial arts/fighting/self-defense skills and techniques (if you have any or some) which you have spent long periods of time practicing and training, can drastically increase your chances of successfully defending yourself and surviving potentially violent self-defense encounters. Speaking based on my personal experience as a self-defense practitioner.

I like that he covered the knife defense in probably the most sensical way to do it. Grab some object arround you (the chair in this case) and use that to keep distance and injure the opponent. Which is much better than trying to execute some random flashy move that might be too complicated to use in real situation like many self defense gurus teach.
