For many of us who MISSED Hendrix concerts and the person himself, Randy Hansen is a God-send.
@willg542 жыл бұрын
Ed, sorry you weren't able to actually experience a Hendrix concert in person. I saw him back on June 5th, 1970, in Dallas. In all actuality, I don't remember anything of the concert. Well, perhaps a few moments of when he knelt down in front of his guitar and lit it on fire. I was only 15 then, so a lot of time has passed since then and I have forgotten many things. I saw Randy Hansen about 20 years ago, and I was delighted to find him and his band doing excellent renditions of Jimi's songs. Glad that you get to enjoy Randy, who is bringing Hendrix back to life. I just talked to Randy's bass player this morning, and he said they just wrapped up a European tour and are coming to Miami Florida next. Maybe he will tour the United States now, and both of us will have the opportunity to see him. Fingers crossed! ☺️

@@willg54 It is not documented that Hendrix lit his guitar on fire in Dallas. Do you have any proof of this?
@willg542 жыл бұрын
Austin, no physical proof, only what I saw with my own two eyes. I didn't know they documented every single time he lit his guitar on fire. It had become so commonplace for him to do. Thanks for your concern.

I'm old enough to have been blessed to see Hendrix live. As a kid I bought his every album and hung on every note. He inspired me to play guitar and I've been trying all my life to nail Hendrix but I know I always fall short. Most guitarists don't even attempt to do Hendrix note for note, they will just do a version of him. Not this guy. He isn't imitating or doing a cover version, when he plays he becomes Jimi Hendrix. It's eerie, even his voice is Jimi. This is why the Hendrix Family have endorsed Randy Hansen to play Jimi's music

Saw Randy with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding at the Whisky a Go Go in I think '81 or 2 with a girl i was dating who got me into the green room up stairs. this was long before they remodeled the place....oh the history in that room. Ended up with a cassette recording from the mixer that night and a roll of 35mm stills I took. I know there are the purists who would say what ever they would but of all the Hendrix covers or I should say tribute bands, Randy Hanson by far exceeds the requirements to be able to just squint a little and see Jimi

Everyone and anyone that picks up an electric guitar , no matter what brand , or where it came from or originated ...everyone , absolutely must learn a Jimi Hendrix tune . To myself , it does not really matter which 1 tune a person might chose to play . What does matter , to me , is that , indeed , 1 does in fact , learn to play , or at least try to learn ,the "style" that Jimi played in . He did teach the world how to play an electric guitar . That is my opinion . I do not believe I will change my opinion of this subject matter , any time soon . No , not soon , at all :) peace :)

I saw Hendrix in concert three times in my life, the last time was ten days before he died. In a live performance, Randy out performs the music of the original. Please don't seek my death for saying this, but Randy is so incredibly accurate with his renditions, it's like hearing Jimi again, but without all the ad lib, and all the mistakes. Thanks for the great work. Us children of the 60's grew up with the records and always wanted to hear them duplicated.

He just sat on the edge and did a backward somersault up to his feet. While playing and not missing a lick. Great showman and player. One of the quickest players I've seen up close (2nd row). @@ufowalter I was lamenting the fact I was born too late to see Jimi and a friend said, "My Lucky's, basement, next week, Randy Hansen." I was already playing part time at Mr. Lucky's once or twice a week. Back in the 70s and 80s, the cowboys would come in to the bar upstairs (the C&W stage) all sweaty & dirty from working, drink for an hour or two then go home, shower shave, get dressed up to the nines and come back with their WAGs. The basement stage was 99% rock n roll. Randy took a flying leap off the stage and landed on a table. Drinks and snacks were flying everywhere. We had the presence of mind to grab the table so it didn't flop over and go flying. Mr. Lucky's is now an abandoned building with a neon sign that is a registered historical landmark. It was a used mattress outlet for a while, and a Mexican dance hall for a while. I was happy to see it used as a Mexican dance hall, as it was originally built for a good night out with live entertainment. I am okay with jamming with the Mexicans too. The last shop I worked at did accordion repair. Some of the big name Tejano, or Norteno players would drive over 24 hours, 1 way, to get an accordion fixed. A few of them has some super serious narco money behind them. It could be some stupid minor sticky key repair, no charge, and everyone in the shop got a few $100 bills as a tip and a "No one touches my shit, but you guys!". I did an old Magnatone M20 amp for the guy. A $1500 tip, and we'd go play some Mexican music and run up another $1000 at the hotel bar.
