I was regular Army for a few years, and though I was electronics maint, we got to fly in some NG Hueys on a training mission once, and those crazy pilots really do trim the treetops at a bit over 100 mph. We got a few leaves in the back seats! ;D I'm afraid of heights, but rappelling down 100ft of rope from a Huey was a total blast.

@@stryker1999 That's a hoot. When I was in the Army I flew in the back of a Huey a couple times. The first time my "buddies" told me where to sit: they put me next to a Sergeant that I knew. He looked a bit uncomfortable. Well, we took off and were flying by road map and that Sergeant threw up all over my shoes and pants. And that is my Huey memory!

101: when you increase collective, the fuselage tends to rotate to the opposite direction - apply slight rudder to counteract. Also, it banks to the left or right - apply bank to counteract. When you rotor diameter or less off the ground - ground effect affects your craft - that thing increases lift: when you take off, gain horizontal speed or increase collective; when you're landing - lower collective as soon as you feel it. When you're flying at about 60 kmph or more, the rotor generates more lift, than it otherwise does. Hilarious vid :D

Man, this is probably my favorite video of your's. Dogfights are interesting and fun, plus they never get old. But this right here, this is comedy gold. Just watching you guys dicking around and not taking the sim (or the KA-50) too seriously brought a smile to my face many times. Great video. Looks like Hover after takeoff and just before landing would help you. Then orbit practice. There is a lot of delay in (especially Huey) helicopter controls, and the attitude of the fuselage has nothing to do with the angle of attack or flight path. Which is why Longshot thought he was going to die all the time. The fuselage essentially just hangs like a payload underneath the rotors, swinging around like groceries suspended from bike handlebars. Your commentary could make you two the new “Car Talk” of DCS! Nice work!

Lol this was fun, my dad flew Hueys in Vietnam and swapped the door 30s out for .50s (rescue so that’s about all they could do.) Still, much larger deterrent 🤣. Apparently they had plugs in the Huey to drive the minigun / Gatling gun motors but the ammo was the issue (too heavy / wouldn’t last long enough.)

Looked like a fun sortie. The Ka-50 has a lot more armour than the Huey, but no helo is bulletproof. Ak-47s can get lucky shots/concentrated fire and take down any helo if it hits the right places/angles/range. The Shark doesn't have thermals, but if it spots you, odds are not with the Huey. That 30mm is high velocity, does range and lead, although that can also guide it manually/boresight it. That's if it doesn't use the Vikhrs. It's faster, can go higher, more power, pretty agile. If you flank one and get the drop on it it's easy to kill, but in a straight fight from range, not much hope for the Huey. While there are soft skinned SAM targets, most things firing missiles at you, especially TOWs are uphill for the Huey to penetrate. The Huey in particular has some tight 'do not exceed' tolerances, so when you get around to learning those gauges - all of them should be in the green and warning sounds you have to pay attention to immediately.

simple ass piece of advice..... force trim left and aft about 1/2 inch and trim it that way BEFORE takeoff. That way you can focus more on torque pedals.
