I'm 71 and as I watch my son and daughter wave goodbye from the train of life, I pray the part of the track that I laid down helps carry them safely through the America I left to them. As a white male I've had had a great ride. I have never felt compelled to make the sacrifices that Angela Davis has in her devotion to truth and freedom, the real promise of America.. A couple of days after the most recent murder of a black man, George Floyd, by a white police officer, I regret that I have avoided facing the desperate needs of America. Jane Elliott says it's never too late.

I don’t know what needs to be removed from this country because systemic oppression no longer exists. I am part Native American and I grew up on a reservation for the first few years of my life. After I moved to a larger town of 50,000 people. I have been around the States and Canada as well as a few places in the world. I have never witnessed “white privilege” in my life. In fact I would say because I’m Native American I have privileges that my white friends did not. I was able to get a $10,000 scholarship and my grades were not the highest, mostly 70% as an average. Well on the other hand some of my friends who were white whom were getting averages of 80%-95% and they were not eligible for hardly any scholarships or bursaries. This video has made it more clear to me as to why I’m a republican. I don’t think myself as a victim because I’m Native and gay. I am responsible for what I do with my life and its outcome. I don’t go out and blame white people for my misfortunes, I take responsibility. In short white privilege does not exist and coloured people are not oppressed. P.S. Angela Davis is a snake and a hypocrite. She supported the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the USSR who were an imperialist power(which she says she’s against.) Also if white privilege still existed today then why are Asians at the top of financial earnings and most educated?

I had experienced Jane’s experiment...let me rephrase that; I was BLESSED to experience Jane’s experiment and LIVE IT as a (as my mother had always called me) a “deformed teenager”. While most people only saw me as a little smaller and younger than I was, and my teachers didn’t exactly agree with my mother’s term of “retarded” and I ended up in “gifted “ programs- this was the early-mid ‘70s in the Deep South. While the schools had been newly integrated, they were still segregated within themselves. A 9th grade teacher did the experiment hoping to open minds and hearts. Almost every white student walked out. I ended up not only befriending my cousins with more melanin; they were my ONLY friends...well, except for my Vietnamese sister I talked my family into taking in when her family had to move away from our city to a bad area with worse schools (one of the very poor white/Vietnamese areas near NO); then, my Chinese boyfriend my first year in college who was from Rhodesia and spoke with a British accent. My little brother remarked several times “oh geeze, she’s bringing the United Nations in again”. 😁. I marched in protests by age 14, a tiny little light-blond haired BLUE-eyed speck in the center of my beautiful black friends. My mother decided I might not be “retarded”, but I was(am) obviously mentally ill. Funny, the black nurses and doctors I hung out with as a teen volunteer at our then segregated hospital didn’t think so, nor did that precious little black 3 year old, in a sickle-cell coma for 4 months...her name was Katrina. Her first word as she came out of her coma-she hadn’t been expected to recover and while I was getting ready to leave one night, as I approached the door, I heard “Lane, LANE” in a weak but growing voice. I had a bit of a name change for a few months as she was never able to quite say e-Lain. Then I became “laney”. Close enough. 😊 Please, PLEASE SHARE every Jane Elliot video you can find! I’m MUCH older these days and while Janes name left my memory for many years-the effect she had on me never did. It’s guided my entire life. I want DESPERATELY, especially today, where I’m constantly hearing not only white people, but black people swearing that “racism doesn’t exist anymore” and “stop playing the race card”. Guess what folks; RACISM STILL EXISTS, AND, it’s PERVASIVE! In fact, I watched one of the most idiotic, uninformed bull crap coming out the mouth of a man who is somehow revered as an intellectual leader, telling his viewers there are physiological brain differences and measurable IQ differences between blacks and whites and that blacks are just born to be stupid. I threw my iPad across the room. I became a physician. The ONLY differences between the “races” are the amount of melanin in the skin and the far too long institutional oppression of people with more melanin. As Jane so eloquently says, in 30 years the demographics of the US will change. No matter WHAT you idiots try and do to prevent it-SORRY, ITS HAPPENING! DEAL WITH IT and WAKE UP! A Boomer B.I.T.C.H.

Long before I ever heard if Jane and Angela and so many others like them, from a very young age and when I started listening to Hip Hop, it was Hip Hop that educated me on racism, what to watch, what to read, what to say, how to carry myself, how to react, in the presence of racism. All those suggestions they recommended I've practiced so thank you ladies and Hip Hop and true fighters against racism.

I'll never forget when Lady Angela Davis came to my High School to speak at one of our Black Student Union meetings. I was awed and ready to go full steam ahead after listening to her!!! We felt so empowered that we planned a march to another High School to fight for our rights however it was planned to happen on a school day and my mother told me if I missed school I'd be in big trouble. Being the Secretary of our BSU I needed to be there to take notes, etc. I'm still alive but I'll close right here lol 🙌🏾❤⚘

This is the most balanced and inclusive discussion on race and privilege that I’ve ever experienced. It’s now my go-to reference for how to start a meaningful and honest conversation and how to ask the right questions. Two women, two points of view. No “mansplaining”, nobody talking over them-heaven!! Thank you for posting!

Majority of the comments are giving more credit to Ms. Jane Elliott instead of both women. That also proves both women's points when it comes to favoring whites over black/brown people/women. You lots will never learn.

Must be people that are not at all familiar with her legacy. To me it was clear that Angela Davis was the main guest star and the other two on stage acted like it. They introduced her last and her answers got way more of a reaction

@LivingOnLifeDyingfromLife187 As a minority (Indian-American), I came to this video and stayed for Angela Davis. In fact, while Jane has some important insights, Jane’s privilege was obvious while she talked and it was getting on my nerves. She should have given the floor more to Ms. Davis - she is who everyone should be paying attention to.

I think it's because their teaching style is different We can learn great lessons from our teachers, even enjoy the subject, but you'll always have that one teacher that's funny, down to earth. So you'll tend to favor them more. Most of know how smart Dr.Davis is, she's just different from Ms. Jane

For me, it was simply that I could hardly hear what Dr Davis was saying. I have enormous respect for both ladies, but the honest truth is that I could hear clearly everything Jane Elliott said. It was frustrating to miss half of most sentences Dr Davis spoke.

What a wonderful conversation and while listening to talk, I went on KZbin and listen in it's entirety to Jane Elliott's "Are You A Racist" from London England....Powerful. I will also pick up those three books, Stop Falling for the Okeydoke, Nile Valley Contributions to Civilization, and The Myth of Race. Freedom Fighter and Civil Rights Icon Angela Davis needs no words; Thank you for your Contribution to All People here and Abroad........

Angela Davis spoke on racial capitalism, which was built on the basis of chattle slavery in this country and sadly it still depends on the systemic injustice of black bodies as mostly seen in the prison system today. The idea that we are merely human beings and because of that we should respect eachother does not tell the full story because it's too simple. And racism is complicated. The producer of racism has been the white race and the ideologies that they have held that has now spread globally. If we got rid of white people tomorrow the ideology of the closest you are to white would still be a problem. We would have to throw away the whole concept of race, which will not allow white people to use that as a source of power. Most white people are not going to change because they are rewarded by practicing racsim by benefiting from it. Yes these discussions are needed, yet when are reparations for 400 hundred years of chattle slavery that have left black amerian communities in extreme poverty going to be seriously talked about? We have always been used and abused for white profit and control. Practicing not being racist is not enough white people, pay what you owe to the decendants of American Chattle slavery if you indeed are not racist, and want the betterment for all people especailly the ones who built the America that you love so much.

@@SG-hf8pj Yes. It's been past due dor white society and everyone that benefited from chattel slavery and all forms systemic racism to pay what is owed to ADOS American descendents of chattel slaves. We need reparations now. Black Americans are in economic genocide..anyone who talks about wanting to end racism and does not mention paying the debt that is owed to ADOS isn't serious about ending racism but perpetuating the system they benefit from.
