I watched your Uinta videos when you first published them. I said to myself, "this is one of the trails I am going to do" (I still say that about the AT, PCT, & CDT, but those will have to wait until either I hit the lottery or retire). You inspired me to challenge myself. My wife and I switch picking our one big trip a year and I told her back when these were posted we were going to do this trail. It was a long wait, but we were finally able to swing it. I had enough days to take two weeks off from work (we also wanted to explore SLC and got to go the the Park City art fest which was a random but fun experience), and it was my turn to pick! We hiked the UHT westbound in 8 days in August 2023! It is an odd feeling, trying to make every second out there count and trying to soak in as much as you possibly can, all the while knowing there is absolutely zero chance you will remember most of it. Pictures are great, but there are times when you get so locked in the moment you realize you haven't really been taking pictures and that is perfectly ok. My favorite picture I have from all of it travels in the last 7 years is one of my wife. It was right after we crested Anderson pass, with only her, centered in the wide open wilderness in front of her. It's hard to explain why, but it's just one of those moments I will cherish that I was able to experience. I came back to this video series and I'm going to be honest, you provided me something that is, without a doubt, a beautiful treasure. Both the real life adventure you inspired me to set out on and these videos to spark my memory of it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I'm so glad you made the trip. I did this trail in 2019 and it changed me. Such an amazing place. I laughed so hard when you said the dry section sucked. It really did. But once on the high trail I couldn't get over the views. It is so remote and the weather up there is so unpredictable which makes it such a true adventure. It can really get in your blood. Thanks for the great video!

Good gravy...you guys did a ton of miles in those days! My feet hurt just thinking about doing Anderson, Tungsten, Porcupine, Red Knob, and Dead Horse Passes all in one day!

So many good memories from this trail that you brought back...the constant battle of out-running thrunderstorms was NOT one of them. Lightning hit so close so many times. Even in the high Colorado rockies I didn't deal with this kind of storm-dodging. But I would do it again in a heartbeat.
@SouEuIAm2 жыл бұрын
The Uintas are in a unique geographical location. The warm air from the Western Deserts hits the cool air in the Uintas and you have unpredictable weather, instant hail storms and crazy thunderstorms. I don't know of another mountain range quite like it. Snowing in July/August is pretty common.

I was up there again this summer. Planed for the 10 day 100 through hike starting at Spirit lake but had to leave early because of a fire, we changed direction just before Red-knob pass after 7 days. Love the high county. I always go in mid Aug the bugs are less and the trail is less muddy.

Nice to see you back!...Everyone has missed you, I think. You have here on KZbin what most people can only hope for. You have people who consider you above all as a premier hiker with a fine morality and a love of what you do. Most people hate what they do, lol...at least for a living. Most hikers and prospective thruhikers take what you say as "gold"...what you buy they buy...what you use they use...in other words you have a massive following that can only get bigger and bigger. The question is can you handle it or will it all become "too much",,,if you know what I mean? At any rate it is nice to see you back. The only other backpacking KZbinr that I have ever subscribed to was RedBeard...and he just, one day.....vanished. I hope that you do not do the same. You put out some of the finest videos that I have ever seen on KZbin in ANY genre. It takes creative genius and talent to do it over and over again......So...how does it feel to be a KZbin SuperStar?!?
@DarwinOnthetrail4 жыл бұрын
