I met Jim at RAF Leuchars when he was the Typhoon display pilot around 2007. Nice bloke. He also raced the Typhoon against Richard Hammond in a Bugatti in Top Gear.

Unless you were Scottish then pretty much this is a base that you never put in for. You fill out what we call a dream sheet, which is three bases you most want to be and three that you do not want to be. All the jocks wanted to be in Scotland and the English not a bloody chance.

Things must have changed dramatically since I was in the RAF, nobody wanted a posting anywhere near where they grew up, the whole idea of joining up was to get away and see a bit of the world, I’m Scottish and I ended up getting postings in Wales, England and Germany, never wanted a posting in Scotland.

I don't remember anyone saying Russian aggression in the video, but Russians fly bombers up to and into the northern most part of British air space regularly, and they've been doing it for years. Who knows why they do it, but Lossiemouth has to scramble jets every time they do. But Russia got really butthurt when the uk sailed a ship past Crimea.
