Corrections: In Chinese, Iron Man is not 钢铁侠人,it is just 钢铁侠. In addition to that, 侠 means a person who fights aginst evils and more of a heroic type of person.

In Taiwanese Chinese, it is translated into 鋼鐵人.It’s probably that she balanced the two different translations in China and Taiwan, Gangtie xia and Gangtie ren.

Watch Out!!!! in China , no Instagram at all because Chinese are being forbidden by China Gov from using Google,KZbin,Twiter,Insagram,Facebook...etc..! Then Chinese people absolutely don't know what's Instagram at all and there is aslo no pronunciation at this word! a chinese girl ,in a previous video of this channel (not the current one) ,had ever telling lies absolutely that she said Chinese reffer Instagram as "INS" ,which was ACCTUALLY MDDE-UP by her! maybe she did that for some covering up of something about China Official.... ! as a Chinese, I hate this Chinese girl for she brought the lies and falsehood to the world!!! don't put her on the show again!

The Chinese language only has characters that have a pronunciation and meaning. In japanese you can use characters that only represent pronunciation, hiragana/katakana. It is very obvious with a shallow understand why the translations to Chinese would never try to keep a similar pronunciation.
@skyworm8006
@skyworm8006 Жыл бұрын
Except you are wrong. Chinese has plenty of phonetic loans and characters can be used purely phonetically for words and names. The real reason is China is less Westernised, less inclined to phonetic loans, and prefers properly nativising words to incorporate them into the language (which btw is better for any language because it's easier and more systematic).
@ArchesBro
@ArchesBro Жыл бұрын
@@skyworm8006 Mmm, so if I wanted to say "Iron Man" in Chinese, would there be a way to write it to just represent the sound? Rather than Chinese characters that combined, describe Iron Man but doesn't sound like the English words "Iron Man"? I understand the politics of nativising words as you describe. If I remember, Mao wanted to change Chinese to a phonetic, romanized alphabet but was convinced not to by Stalin. So I assumed it didn't have purely phonetic characters
@nanwang8685
@nanwang8685 Жыл бұрын
@@ArchesBro There has been Chinese romanization for over half a century already, it’s called pinyin system. And before CCP took over mainland China, there was Wade-Giles romanization invented by two British guys, which is till used today by the Taiwanese people. Still, neither system is used for translation purposes but for typing or pronunciation. The translation of movie titles in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan will have to use the Chinese characters to give them an actual meaning, otherwise it’s just finding the characters that sound like the English syllables, which is not the right interpretation of the movie titles. And unlike Korean or Japanese, Chinese language has very minimal English influence.
@ArchesBro
@ArchesBro Жыл бұрын
@@nanwang8685 In my comment I meant Mao wanted phonetic and romanized. Pinyin is romanized but not phonetic. I understand exactly what you are saying, but it seems like it is confirming what I thought

Mariko mentions Chihiro, a girl hero of the film that's title in British English was 'Spirited Away'. An interesting translation (I'm a Brit), as this brings to mind an old expression 'away with the fairies', which can mean being absent-minded or foolish today, but used to mean someone who had met nature spirits and been changed by the experience. Perhaps to explain autistic or child-like people long ago.

Hmmm, not very accurate information given here, of all the friends I have that are Chinese and my family in China calls iron man 钢铁侠 does not have the 人 in it. Is it Taiwanese or something maybe? We call him 钢铁侠 gang tie xia in mainland China and it is the title of the movie as well. Also, 侠 Xia in Chinese does not mean someone who can fly, it means someone that is righteous or simply righteous. think of 侠义 (Xia Yi) which kind of means chivalrous, or gallant, where xia stands for righteousness and Yi stands for justice. If Xia is translated as flying what does Xia Yi translate into? Flying Justice? LOL so it is very incorrect, if you are learning Chinese don't take her words!

Have read a bit about the Wuxia tradition in Chinese history, and there is the earliest dynasty before recorded history known as the Xia Dynasty, the Wu Xia heroes such as in novels and myths (or movies as in 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'), later becoming comics, film and TV characters. The meaning has shifted over time, passing through 'righteous warrior' to 'flying people'. Flying meaning 'rising above the mundane world'.
@akaliyue
@akaliyue Жыл бұрын
@@stevetheduck1425 Hmm I'm not sure where you get that information, but after I read your comment I went ahead and searched "武侠的由来"( the origins of Wu Xia) and the information I got from the Chinese wiki is that it first started around the Qing dynasty. This is taken from the English wiki: Wuxia (武俠 [ù.ɕjǎ]), which literally means "martial heroes", is a genre of Chinese fiction concerning the adventures of martial artists in ancient China. The word "wǔxiá" is a compound composed of the elements wǔ (武, literally "martial", "military", or "armed") and xiá (俠, literally "chivalrous", "vigilante" or "hero"). A martial artist who follows the code of xia is often referred to as a xiákè (俠客, literally "follower of xia") or yóuxiá (遊俠, literally "wandering xia"). In some translations, the martial artist is referred to as a "swordsman" or "swordswoman" even though they may not necessarily wield a sword. In my understanding of my culture, it never shifted from righteous people to flying people. But again, maybe it is more of a Taiwanese interpretation? Also, I think the Xia Dynasty you are talking about is the 夏 xià dynasty, and it has not much relation to the word 侠 xiá, they might have the same pinyin but they are written differently and pronounced differently as well. I'm not sure if they have any other relations? I mean I haven't read anything about their relations but I could be just missing out on that bit of information though.

Japanese have learn the British English pronunciation from the times of samurai period that's why they say So from Thor, and also they use an old English reason why even British from nowadays don't know and other English countries doesn't even know or understand or imagine like us people. All the western words that finish with R Japanese pronounced it like British almost soundless or like ÀR. like British girl says people in UK would understand the japanese pronunciation of Thor. Also there's an old name in japan that's Tōru I thought the girl would say it like that to Thor.
