The cat seemingly healthy is intentional. Rabies cases are pretty hard to detect and once the symptoms appear on the animal, its already too late. That's why pet owners have to take their animals to the vet before bringing them into international travels. Its a really serious issue

It's rare, but Rabies does occur naturally in wild populations (bats, etc.) Only 4 cases in the UK since 2000. Most incidents of Rabies are brought in from other areas - eg the case in 2012 of a woman who was bitten by a dog in Asia, and who then returned to the UK. The death in 2002 of a bat handler (the Scotland case) was wild Rabies - something we cannot control.

@cius962 жыл бұрын
Well... you were very lucky and got treated quickly, otherwise it's very likely you wouldn't have survived. Rabies is no joke, it's lethal 99.99% of the times. Health and safety has been going mad lately with the covid pandemic and all this psychological terrorism, lockdowns, mandatory masks and green pass, expecially in Italy... here the green pass has become an authentic political weapon that heavily limits people's freedom. Hell, one can't even go to the bank, the barber, the post or any pubblic space / office (except food shops) if they don't have a negative test. And even if you have a negative test, you STILL can't take long distance trains or busses, book a room in a hotel, go to the cinema, gym, local festivales (even if they're outside and there aren't many people), or just eat something at the restaurant / fast food or drink a coffee at the bar (EVEN if you stay outside)... only those who are vaccinated can do all those activities. EVEN NOW when every other country in Europe is going back to normal life. Many of those who faced all those restrictions and chose not to get vaxxed were continuously discriminated, isolated, mocked IRL and on social networks, rejected at hospitals / denied basic healthcare, seen as infected / plague spreaders and have even received "death-wishes" from some medical directors, journalists and tv personalities (according to some those who are against the vaccine should be confined in concentration camps or in jail). THAT'S actual madness, NOT the safety measures against rabies. Rabies kills almost always, while Covid is almost never deadly, unless you're very ond and/or already have serious diseases.

That's the kind of complacency that sets in once you have a country, gifted with defensible geography, that actually succeeds in eradicating rabies on its soil. The measures that keep it that way start to seem overwrought. Granted, rabies is also a lot more treatable now, if you get it handled prophylactically after any bite by a suspicious animal. If you wait for symptoms, IIRC it might still be too late.
