Is Hilti making a come back, certainly looks that was, Robin mentioned referring to a breaker as the Hilti, i'd be more inclined to say the breaker was known as the 'Kango' and Kango is a brand in its own right but back to Hilti, I remember when people said get the Hilti or we'll need a Hilti they referred to a Hilti nail gun. Glad to see Hilti back, its an iconic brand within construction and hoping to see Robin maybe putting some of the tools through their paces on his videos

Theft control. As I title this as it has the technology to connect and provide data to Hilti when being charged. If stolen can this provide data and location of stolen items or provide a lockout function to the battery/tool if reported stolen to Hilti either in fleet or purchase ?? Just a question as would be a good selling point if it can't be used and a dead unit?

Hmm as soon as you pull the battery it would he difficult to trace. It could be all made very complex with apps and all that but is that what you want? Maybe it's what the bosses in the office want who have to do the finances. Bosch Professional has a tracking system I believe. It's all a bit too Big Brother-like for me

Credit to Hilti for these innovations, I'm guessing the other brands are not too far behind ! The use of data to monitor battery and tool performance seems completely logical and very welcome.

Love your videos, your tool collection is the envy of every joiner, You recently did a video on a basic toolbox for apprentices, The minimum wage of an apprentice is £4.81 per hour, Considering the lowest level hilti 22v drill with 2 batteries and charger is around £560 (3 weeks pay), how could an apprentice ever hope to buy the type of tools you're advertising? It looks like the only way to achieve high quality work is to only use the latest, most expensive tools. For example you use your cheap affordable hinge jig, with a £400 router, Where as a £12 aldi router can produce the same quality job. Cheap tools can get the same results, it takes more time, you have to pay extra attention, but they make money, and those lessons you learn using the best you can afford, will make using a high end tool even better. How about a few budget power tool videos? And a bit about looking for the right places to do an apprenticeship, some companies abuse the system for cheap labour. Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration 👍
@RubenKemp2 жыл бұрын
The only way the apprentice would be able to pay for these tools is to just let the customer pay for them, but an apprentice is obviously not responsible for pricing the jobs he's joining the 'teacher' with. The wage you mention is not the wage the average builder makes. An apprentice should not be responsible for paying for all of his tools. Maybe the basic set from the video you mentioned, but a lot of Hilti tools are specialist tools. They target fleets. The prices include warranties and guarantees of quality control that you just dont get with other brands. If you're not in a fleet on-site-replacement/repair program the prices are had to justify compared to Makita, Milwaukee and DeWalt, though the Aldi router is just not in the same ballpark. Downtime and efficiency are key for those bigger firms. The wage is only a small part of the price the big construction companies pass on to their client. Some of the big tools Hilti really excels at, namely the concrete circs, hammer drills or demo hammers (probably between 1500 and 4000 british pounds each), might even be worth it for smaller outfits if they're specialized companies. Monthly installments are worth it at that point. Otherwise a day or week hire is more economical I guess.
@sally64572 жыл бұрын
@@RubenKemp the problem is that apprenticeships are short, within 3 years on low pay, your a joiner, then your on your own, your not even guaranteed a job with the company you trained with. Yes you could hire tools and pass on the cost to customers, but for the price of hiring a plunge saw for a week, you could afford a cheap saw from amazon, it might only last a year, but that's going to earn you money rather than cost money. I'd just like to see some advice on how to use basic power tools and get a high end finish, you know, tricks of the trade, like how to make a parallel guide for a circular saw, so one saw can be used to cut joists, and sheets, and with a finer blade can cut worktops, aluminium, floor boards, etc, Robin seems to have a cordless drill for every drill bit he owns, He uses 2 cordless saws to cut each end of joists, and a different impact driver for every day of the week, and each tool would cost a few weeks pay as an apprentice,
@marlowjoinery97832 жыл бұрын
Looks impressive stuff I bet it’s not cheap I’ve never used hilti tools but I’m after a powerful circular saw these 18v saws just lack power in my opinion. And on this day God save the queen

Hilti were around when I started. Even back then they were tools owned by companies you worked for. They weren't tradies tools. The exception being the powder actuated guns. A lot had them. Bosch were the drill kings though having come out with the SDS drills. I had one of them. Later had a Hilti SDS. Still have an old one in the shed. Today not much has changed. Company tools. The other problem where I now live is that Hilti stores are scarce. The service they made their name with doesn't work when you are unlikely to get a tool replacement for days. And getting repairs and parts probably weeks. Getting any brand repaired can take months. When I think back to Hilti it was always the powder guns shooting plates onto steel or into concrete with stray nails ricocheting off the walls. Or using them as pistols shooting targets. No safety systems then. Cartridge nail and fire. They were good fun.

I was considering stacking out with Hilti tools, but the problem is the UK prices are extortionate, they seem to be stuck in a vat time warp, where they do the old trick that other companies used to pull, whereby they double the vat to 40 percent. for example in the US the Hilti SF 6H A22 drill driver is a very reasonable 179 dollars, which at the current exchange rate is 154 quid Here in the UK Hilti have priced the same drill at 213 quid ! now 154 + 20 percent is 184 quid, clearly someone at Hilti UK thought hey lets just double that to 40 percent. Zero respect for UK customers ! Added to that Hilti don't sell through third party retailers, so there is no competition on pricing, its Hilti RRP or the Highway, no sales no nothing.and Hilti are out performed in many categories by cheaper brands such as Dewalt and Milwaukee, I simply cannot invest in that ! but the 40 percent vat grinds me the most
@robertrada47832 жыл бұрын
That’s our pre tax price, FYI.
@rocketmunkey12 жыл бұрын
@@robertrada4783 So its even worse 213 + vat = 255 quid UK price, thats a 65 percent price increase above and beyond the US price.Shame I really liked Hiltis products, but cant justify that, feels very mean spirited towards us here in the UK.
@AS192832 жыл бұрын
@@rocketmunkey1 no, he means the US price I’d pre tax. Every state has different sales tax, some way higher than others!! 0-40% state to state
@rocketmunkey12 жыл бұрын
@@AS19283 Yeah I get that, thats a given for US pricing, the reason is the sales tax differers from state to state, but the absolute maximum sales tax is only 7.25% and thats in California, there are five states Delaware, Alaska, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon. with 0% sales tax, so the most you'll pay in the US for the SF 6H A22 for example is 192 dollars which is about 165 quid. But the UK price I quoted of 213 quid is actually excluding vat too, so the actual price after VAT we pay here in the UK is 256 quid, which is the equivalent of paying 65% tax above the base US price. not 20% If you see what I mean.
@robertrada47832 жыл бұрын
@@rocketmunkey1 Oh geez. I did not realize that those prices were pre-vat. So Hilti is doing to you much the same as Dewalt and Milwaukee? That sucks. If it’s any consolation to you, compare Makita SDS (you will shit yourself on this one), Festool, Mafell and Metabo (not Hitabo HPV) prices. Hilti had even lower prices on Nuron for a short while as an unofficial introductory thing. They will likely raise the prices at a whim here again. I also have been informed by people that receive below published pricing that their discounts aren’t much on these new tools. UK discount pricing might be much lower than published in contrast.

@natdenchfield80612 жыл бұрын
Considering Hilti is a Swiss company, I cant see why they are so much more expensive in Europe than the US! I jumped the gun and imported Nuron impact driver, jigsaw and combi drill . Bare tool impact SID 6-22 was $180 (currenly £160 - was a better exchange rate then) and UK price is now £254 ! That's 58% higher price pre-tax. I got Hilti to remove any sales tax and ship to forward shipper to the UK. Even with shipping and import duty, I still saved a few £hundred on the three tools, 3 one-strip batteries and charger. Only caveat is I need to use a step-down transformer in UK - nothing simple to modify inside (I checked!). Anyway, can't wait to use them and compare them to my A22 platform versions.. just so hesitant to take them on site - I might get a bigger tool case before I do, so I can pad it out for them..
