I hope you understand that not in every city of Ukraine the tap water is so bad. The thing is Kyiv takes it's tap water from Dnipro river, but for example in my town Smila, we take our water from the artesian well, so it tastes just amazing.
@samuelandaudrey7 жыл бұрын
That is good to know. We've found in general, smaller cities or towns, wherever it is that we travel tend to have better drinking water from the tap.
@mycommentsable7 жыл бұрын
In fact, different districts in Kyiv take water from different sources. The water from the Dnipro River and other ground bodies has issues, to say the least, but there are those who get their water supply from artesian wells (over 10%, I guess). Also you need to factor in the condition of district waterpipes... Anyway, there is nothing to panic about but having a home water filter is probably a good idea.

Personally, hostels are much better than renting an apartment, and not just because of the cheaper price. You come to Europe to see architecture, yes, but also to meet the people of foreign countries. A rented apartment is isolation. In a hostel you will meet Europeans and also locals from that country who are travelling around their own country. You can rent a private room, or a dorm room for maximum cheapness. Hostels have a common room, couches, information boards, a front desk staff to advise you, an equipped kitchen, a dining area, & social events. Hostels have much more than an apartment, including more fun.

This couple doesn't understand the European architectural system. A lot of European cities have beautiful facades which face the street. These facades are designed for the express purpose of hiding the more mundane , utilitarian, functional, and less attractive buildings located behind it. This is actually pretty smart because not only does it keep your city pleasing to the eye, it also makes it an attractive tourist destination.

Thanks! That is really exciting to hear! My biggest tip would be to be adventurous with your tastebuds and try lots of local cuisine. If you're looking to save money consider staying in hostels, traveling with friends (as you meet them on the road) to split costs, taking buses (booking in advance when you can to save money) and mostly walking from place to place or using local transportation like metros or public buses. This will help your money stretch longer.

Although some software programs may now spell it Kyiv to help fulfill geopolitical purposes, the vast majority of native English speakers still pronounce and spell it as Kiev. The people set the true standard, regardless of what software programs say when it comes to issues of this nature. I think the Ukrainian way of saying it will become more widespread over time. Be patient and relax ; )
