Talking Europe sits down with one of the most high-profile EU Commission presidents of modern times, Jean-Claude Juncker, who was in office from 2014 to 2019. He shares his thoughts on Ursula von der Leyen's second European Commission and the challenges facing Europe, from migration to Ukraine and the Middle East. Juncker, who had plenty of one-on-one time with Vladimir Putin, says he is "deeply disappointed" by the Russian president, but that it is still important give peace a chance, with the aid of "skilful diplomats".

Ukraine is not going to give up territory taken by force without serious security guarantees from the EU - which the EU may or may not be willing to give. And even then it is a seriously tall order. Russia is not going to agree to any peace deal that puts NATO troops on its boarder. I understand that war is terrible - but sometimes diplomacy can only happen when one side 'gives up' Either way, Russia's invasion of Ukraine hits at a fundamental cornerstone of post-war stability - national sovereignty and territorial integrity. If people are comfortable with the dissolution of that - then don't cry when boarder wars become common again.

Don't worry too much about borders. Soon We will see for the nth time border exceptions being created for Israel. For effective implementation of rules based order we should avoid creating exceptions to the rule on any pretext. Our hypocrisies, favouritism & ally tilted approaches r establishing a case for "might is right".

@existentialvoid National Security has and always will have precedence over territorial integrity . If the US and its cohorts had not pushed for NATO presence along Russia's 2100km border with Ukraine , Ukraine wouldn't be where it is now . Another case in point is the Cuban Missile Crisis where US national security took precedence . Do you think the US would allow Russian nukes and boots in Mexico ? Territorial borders are always in influx and many are in dispute . As an example , take a good look at any 50 year old map .
