Just been reading about this. This is the Russian 6th regiment. It has been said that amongst the dead was Col. Andei Zakharov, the regiments commander. In fact there is Russian footage of an officer saying the regiment commander was killed in action. It is thought more than 20 tanks and other armoured vehicles were caught in the ambush. Several experts who have seen the footage of the attack believe that amongst the problems the Russians faced in this attack was poor training and tactics.

Here is a simple political solution: (1) acknowledge the war and accept responsibility for all actions over the last decades, (2) return all Russian military to Russia, including those illegally occupying Crimea. (3) Start paying reparations for the wounded, deceased and traumatized. (4) Start reparations for the damages. (5) Pay out compensation on top of that. (6) Collect the political and military top brass and hand them over to the ICC so they can be tried for war crimes. (7) Demobilize the army. (8) Let international experts dismantle all nuclear weapons. (9) Let every country that wishes join whatever organization they wish. (10) Re-educate its populace and inform them what atrocities have been committed in their name. Do not cease until they are as ashamed of their history as the average German. That sounds like a good starting point to me.

I see a “boys will be boys” moment in this clip, like a movie moment lived out in real life, a Russian tank captured and commandeered by hero’s, driving it like they stole it after getting the thing going again, back to their town where they can show off their work defending their country. Funny part is we saw that “ambush” via the video the Azov battalion Released. it looked like it only destroyed 1 MT-LB APC and the captured a T-72AV model 1985 congrats. It looked to be a reserve column of poorly trained reservist from Siberia with old equipment used as a probing force along a likely avenue of approach to seek out a Ukrainian firing position. Nice try with the “destroys Russian column” though. The only columns the Ukrainians have been able to destroy our resupply and refueling convoys aka “soft targets”.

Let's not get overconfident. The Russians suffered initial disasters in their 1939 invasion of Finland too, but after a few months changed their generals and tactics and sorted themselves out. So where are the Z markers or V markers? All Russian vehicles have them. The road wheels do confirm it being a T-72 tank and not a T-64 however Ukraine also has T-72's in active service. And how are they able to drive that T-72 if they "destroyed" the convoy entirely in an ambush. So many questions and so few things that actually add up.

Don't forget that many of these same Russian soldiers are also the ones bombarding civilian areas, bombing hospitals and orphanages, opening up "evacuation lines" only to gun down families who try and escape. You're absolutely right that the higher ups are to blame, but remember it is these soldiers who are actually pulling the triggers. It doesn't matter what the orders are, deliberately murdering civilian men, women and children is an evil act.
