This is mainly due to the fact that there can't be any real surprises on the battlefield because any larger gathering of troops will be noticed and dealt with swiftly by artillery. So it is a meat grinder type of war, much more reminiscent of WWI.

I know its still early, but this counter-offensive is proving costly. It seems that in modern warfare, the initial push is important before both sides end up in defensive positions. Any form of attack is increasingly costly given both sides do not have a numerical advantage. Russians slowly moving in on Kupiansk but losing lots of troops. Ukraines moving south but at heavy losses. Its a shame loss of life on both sides.

Many people here dont understand that Russia had almost a year to prepare. They put millions of mines all over the frontlines, millions!!! There is reports that in some areas there is some 5 mines per square meter!!! Anti-personel and anti-armor. Before you can advance you need to get rid of them. And this under enemy artillery fire! The ukrainians tried the fast aproach first and took some hard losses. specialy because they dont have enough warplanes to support the ground troops. Thats why now they switched tactics. They concentrate on taking out enemy artillery and logistics from afar. This saves the lives of countless ukrainian soldiers. And if the russian soldiers dont get enough ammo and food, sooner or later theyr frontlines will collapse. Its not important to be "fast", its important to be smart, if you want to win at the end....

The Ukrainians offensive has reached the Russian defensive line at one location ! This reminds me of the battle of Passchendaele in WW I. The British planned to punch through three rows of barbed wire. Across a series of three German trench lines and break out into the “Green fields” beyond. After a quarter of a million causalities the British halted the offensive. They had not even been able to cross their own line of barbed wire before being stopped !

Bankruptcy and bad health too, at first the end comes slowly. So slowly that you pay it no heed and forget about it easily and then out of nowhere it happens very very quickly! I can imagine this front dragging out for a year and then all at once, massive breaks occurring through russian lines as the "internal rot" and constant grinding finally meet.

I think it’s important to point something out that was somewhat glossed over here. There are plenty of other factors. Russia is losing artillery, C&C points, and Ammo/Truck/Fuel depots at an extreme rate. As noted, key bridges and transport points are regularly under fire and being hit. If you track telegram and daily reports, partisans are also running around in Russia ambushing convoys and trucks, too. Also, their growing air defense and naval drone programs are pushing Ruzzian aviation farther and farther back. The Black Sea is becoming more and more dangerous for Ruzzian ships and they lost a major military transport ship and military fuel tanker (not sunk, but out of action for years as they do not have the dry dock capacity nor effective resources for quick repairs). Remember that it’s hard to understate exactly how crazily mined the entire front is. It’s our fault in the west for giving Ruzzia time to build up these defenses and get more meat to put in those trenches. If we had given Ukraine what they have now by the time Kherson fell, we would be looking at a much different picture. Ukraine is doing this without the aviation resources the West would have conducting the same offensive. Ukraine also has not received anywhere near the mine clearing equipment they need and that requires air cover to do their jobs…. Honestly, the fact that Ukraine has the opposite loss ratio that Ruzzia had on their offensive without overwhelming air cover is nothing short of amazing. Even the Ruzzian generals are complaining that Ukraine’s counter battery fire and accuracy is kicking their artillery’s butt and their logistics is so hampered that many places are lacking in ammunition, food, and fuel. Ukraine has trained and brave medics that care and casevac and medical support systems where Ruzzia just leaves their men to rot and die and then have the kadyrovites shoot them if they retreat. It’s not all sunshine and roses, and there are heavy losses on both sides, but from thousands of videos and photos, statements on telegram and twitter tracking OSINT accounts, Ruzzia is not having a good time. It took the Allie’s over 5 months to break out in Normandy and Ukraine is being very effective in shaping possible breakthrough points by seriously doing major damage to Ruzzia’s rear with many accurate long range strikes. The recent cross river landings and SOF operations are only causing more dilemmas for the Ruzzians. I’ve seen so many videos of Ruzzian ammo and supply depots becoming fireballs I’ve lost count. Never forget that every Ukrainian Soldier is literally fighting for their right to exist and to avoid genocide, both physical and cultural as a moral imperative and as a cause worth fighting for. Every strike on civilian targets, cultural landmarks, discoveries of war crimes, the rapes and murders, theft of children and discovery of torture chamber and mass grave only adds fuel to the fire of determination. It’s that will that can’t be broken. Meanwhile, the surging mobiks and even contractnikis are only asking why they aren’t getting paid or any leave… This will be Ruzzia’s Vietnam. Slava Ukraini, Heroyam Slava!

Just one small correction. The Allies took from June 6th to August 21 to completely crush 10 Armour Divisions, the best the Nazi's had as well as at least twice that many Infantry Divisions, including the German 'Paratroopers' (very good fighters but actually formed from redundant Luftwaffe ground crew). After Falaise the Germans army didn't stop till it was out of France. The difference of course was that the allies had massive air superiority

(3 of the 12 divisions in Poland had less than 80 tanks each, so not full strength) Also they had 3332 tanks spread between 17 divisions in Russia (41). 125 per division/225 per division/196 per division. @kenraalikekkoinen can't say I have a source I imagine if you look it up and find some non mainstream content you can find info on this subject. I personally saw pics/videos of injured Ukrainians in Germany who were being treated badly because of tattoos of swastikas and the 88 (Hail Hitler) because that stuff is highly illegal there so the medical staff were conflicted on providing medical care for a nazi.

@@kelleychilton2524"At some point, Western Nations will grow weary of supporting Ukraine." That was Putins biggest gamble, and he lost. The West isn't going to get tired of this. Because it's not losing any of its own soldiers, and has already sunk billions into Ukraine's defense. They're not just going to walk away from a very expensive project. So it's essentially a war of economies. Russia's economy vs the combined economies of NATO/allies. I know who wins that in the long term.

@henryhudson9556 you mean other than the USA sponsoring a coup and installed a nato friendly president? Other than the USA pushing to violate the agreements it had with Russia to not invite Ukraine or a few other states into NATO? The USA provoked this conflict and now the weapons companies are making billions off of it. This isn't a conflict over good vs evil...it's a conflict over $$

Now I know you already proved the invasion was unprovoked, however I don’t think there was ever a peace treaty after 2014 which means that Russia was never prohibited to invade but I do agree that it was an unjust escalation of the war.
