Thanks, simple but valuable demonstration on how to use a capo, especially thought the retuning was a pertinent point, explains why our ukulele group has problems with harmony when trying to use another key. Still be soldiering on with the barre chords though, a capo takes to long to move about (even longer now i need to retune as well) Keep em coming, I'm learning a lot

Will you post when the pdf is up or should we keep coming back to see. I would use a capo to put a song into a my vocal range to sing.

Thanks for this lesson. Some of my sheet music written by various uke players indicates the use of a capo on a particular fret. I am guessing now this was done probably to make the song using chords easier to play as, when comparing that same song on music sheets without the capo required either more difficult chords or hard to transition chords. When playing piano I never did learn how to change the key and just followed the sheet music as written. If placing the capo on the first fret changes the strings by one step up does that also change the key for singing?

Hi! I was trying to learn country roads from your tutorial and I couldn’t figure out why it sounded like shit when I put the capo on my strings LOL now I’m realizing that I need to get a electronic tuner instead of using an app because the app only wants to tune normal style. Does this mean I need to find a video of how to play country roads in the key of A? I’m just learning...

Doesnt the capo also change the key which is helpful for singing?

My problem is that the capo is ‘in the way’ for instance it’s really difficult now to switch between e minor and D major chord with the capo in the way. How to handle that?

Well. I waited for this lesson thinking you would teach the most important reason to use a capo but I didn’t hear it. To me, one would more commonly need a capo if someone is playing in a key you don’t normally use or you know the song better in another key. Say I play a particular song in C but the person I want to play with wants E. Where do I put the capo so we can play together in E? So we’d be in the key of E but I’d play chords from key of C. I can’t see using a capo to avoid a barre chord. This lesson was not helpful to me. I hope it was to others. Thanks though.

Well put.

@@monopodbs You need to work out how many semi-tones you want to go up (C to E =4) you then place your capo just before that fret (the 4th)

This is a very helpful session, not because I want to avoid barre chords, but it helps me understand my uke and music

Thank you for the info. I have a question. Do the strings get spoiled if I use the capo very often? I see that my clip type capo is puttin pressure on the strings and this bending is not giving me a good feeling. Do you think there is a specific distance for the opening of the capo or how much pressure is ideal for Tenor Ukulele strings?

Everyone else says tuning with the capo on will break the strings 🤨
