Hi, can u teach me. How to read the tab. Thanks.
@UkuleleZen4 жыл бұрын
Each line of the tab corresponds to a different strain… The bottom line is the string closest to the ceiling… The top line is the street closest to the floor… The numbers on each line tell you which fret to play.

+Great Big Ukes Thanks! Yes, for me, it's all about a relaxed body awareness.... tell me, what do you mean by "despite the groove"?
@greatbigukes42699 жыл бұрын
Clumsily put by me? It'd be easy with an ostensibly laid back subject to get loose with the teaching, but I really appreciated that the teaching points clearly flowed through the video with no lag or loss of focus. You haven't had to edit it to keep the points you've made clear. It's very skilful stuff. Kudos to you for that.

@ukulele Zen Isn’t it Am or C major blues?
@UkuleleZen4 жыл бұрын
The keys of C major and A minor are related (a minor is the relative minor of C major, and C major is the relative major of a minor)... It all depends on whether the backing cords are defining the key as one or the other… But you are right they do have a close relationship! +Bradfordbassman Glad you dig it! More videos coming all the time. www.stufuchs.com Try holding the ukulele with the forearm of your strumming arm (most likely right?) You can also get a strap installed to your uke - will make your left hand freed up to play when it's not working to hold it up. Go to a music store & get a strap installed on your uke...well worth it - just pick the right strap size first!! Peace, Stu

Glad you liked it & got something out of it! Not sure which lick you mean, but it's probably a lick that uses the C minor pentatonic scale. Once you know those notes just add your own rhythm to make up your own (or copy my rhythm). The notes are (starting on C string - go to next string after ||): 0 3 5 || 3 6 || 3 6 || Have fun w it :)

Stu, Great Stuff. It's all about smooooth, yes? Question: do you let the nail on your right thumb stay a bit long to help with plucking or is that just a personal preference? I thought my fingertips on my left hand were tough, but all the sliding causes my hand to be more vertical and rubs on heretofore unknown tender parts. BTW, couldn't find a free tablature of this and was glad to pay you $2, but you might want to change how you present it. I always look for good new stuff from you. Thanks for sharing your talents. Dave

Hi David. I DO keep my thumbnail long for playing melodies & fingerstyle on guitar, uke & charango. Not TOO long, but long enough to reach the strings with ease. This video was made before I started to charge for the download tab...I tried to make that change clear with the little video "annotations" that fly into the screen. In the future whether tabs are free of for a small fee - I will be clear about it from the start. Happy playing & thanks for writing!

+TW F Hey there - I must admit that I've never heard of Gradus Ad Parnassum did you mean by Debussy or Clementi? Please enlighten me! P.S. I've been a guitarist since my teens, ukulele since 2002...

+Ukulele Zen (Stuart Fuchs) OH! I will have to check this out! You did you mean this "a seminal textbook on counterpoint written by Johann Fux in 1725, but still used today for instruction in musical theory and composition; Leopold Mozart is said to have taught his son Wolfgang from its pages. Beethoven held it in great esteem, and Haydn meticulously worked out each of its exercises." ?
@dingusmoped8 жыл бұрын
Ukulele Zen Sorry, music department joke...Thought you got that one before... Gradus Ad Parnassum is a music education book written in the 1700s to teach 16th Century counterpoint to students the principals dealing with multiple voices. It was written by Fux (likely same sounding last name as you...), so I thought others might have cracked that joke on you before. Just trying to be a music geek. :-) Composition is my main study but lately been learning ukulele...fun!
@dingusmoped8 жыл бұрын
Ukulele Zen Bingo!
@UkuleleZen8 жыл бұрын
+TW F Music Geeks Unite! Thanks for turning me onto another source for studying counterpoint - now to make some time & read it! :) The similarities between the baroque guitar & the uke are pretty interesting too - the high g re-entrant tuning on the uke bears a lot of similarities to some plucked string music of the baroque era.

Oh...that? Just a little spontaneous lick. Sorry, no tab, BUT - I'm playing the 1st position blues scale & bending the highest note on each string. Watch it a few times & fill int he holes from this outline: 1st string bend 6th fret, 2nd string bend 6th fret, 3rd string "blue note" on fret 4, then fret 3, then open...you fish for the rest! (scat it & see if you can find the notes) Good luck!
