I'm 60 and my brother is 57 with Crones Disease, and has had about 16 or more surgeries removing his intestines, as long as he lives, I will make sure his bills are all paid ,as he can't work . He's no burden to me, He's my brother. Our parents are gone and he's all I have left of my family here in Ohio. If I have a dollar , then he has 50 cents. This song brings me to tears .I Love You brother........

It's based upon an actual story, what I understood. About a poor African-American kid who carried his disabled brother to school every day. Upon asked why he did this, he answered: he ain't heavy he's my brother. Always makes you cry, don't it? It does me.

50 years ago, this year, I carried my best friend from the spot where he died to the LZ when the Crew Chief asked me if I needed help. I remembered some years before seeing a poster about Boys Town and so I answered:" No thank you, he ain't heavy, he's my brother." Just think about him every day.

2010 my uncle Lonnie Dimas Jr. Died at the age of 69. He was in the hospital, and he had told me, " he was ready to go. I told him ,it was ok." In the car, this song, "He ant heavy, he's my brother." Started playing, l started crying. Thinking of Jr. I'd heard this song a thousand times but today it had a personal feeling, to me. I didn't go home for 6 hrs. That's when l finely stopped crying. Thanks for all the fine music you've given to all of us. God bless you for sharing your God given talents w/the world & ME..

I've heard many different versions of this song by many different artists. But, I just can't find any that touches me as Neil's does. His timing, heart cry sound in his voice, and the fact that once he sings something, to me, it is finished! I love this version and Neil Diamond. I created an amazing design inspired by this song and copied it for framing to give an old veteren friend of mine. He cried! Thanks Neil!

This song has always been so special for me, especially sung by Neil Diamond. I was 13 when I lost my brother in a traffic accident. Now I’m 56, and he still travels with me. Because “no burden is he to bear, we’ll get there, for I know, he ain’t heavy, he’s my brother”..... that sentence always relates to me so much.

On this day in 1917 {December 12th} Father Edeward J. Flanagan opened Boys Town in a run-down Victorian mansion in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. It was his belief that every child could be a productive citizen if given love, a home, an education, and a trade... Fifty three years and two days later on December 14th, 1969, Neil Diamond's covered version of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother*" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #68; and six weeks later on December 13th, 1970 it peaked at #20 {for 2 weeks} and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100... * In 1943, Boys Town adopted as its image and logo a picture of a boy carrying a younger boy on his back, with the caption "He ain't heavy, Father, he's my brother"...

"He Ain't Heavy" was composed by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. It was introduced to the Hollies in the summer of 1969 while residing in London and the record was released on September 1, 1969. featuring the piano talents of Elton John, and with lead singer Allan Clarke providing a heartfelt rendition of the lyrics. The US release was 3 months later - December 1, 1969... But what the hell... Neil does a wonderful interpretation.

Im 700 this song came out in popularity during the civil rights movement. My uncle arranged its music for his entire marching band of the university of Minnesota to play on the football field at halftime. We always became somber when its message resounding. Actually it refers to the brotherhood of all mankind. Of course it was wartime then, soldiers were carrying their injured fellow soldiers drafted with them in Viet Nam. The word "brother" penetrates in our hearts reaching across race boundaries & differences. Not necessarily a sibling.

Recording made at the BBC studio with audience, much nicer environment to sing with feelings, close to your people, rather than a hall with 30 or 40,000 spectators, miles away, just a field of heads! I was there, at the studio. I remember those deep beautiful eyes, telling us a story in that song. At every stage of his life, Neil had a strong, but kind and gentle personality. That is what came through. His children are lucky to have Neil as their dad. Hope life will always treat you well. We are thinking of you. 😉

This song was inspired by the statue at Boys Town, in Omaha, Nebraska. The statue is a young man carrying his little brother. Neil Diamond's audio engineer for decades was Stan Miller was from Holdrege, Nebraska.

The first concert my brother Leo and I ever went to and this song was special to the both of us because we lost our brother to a intoxicated person while he was on leave from the military Police army sadly this week my brother Leo past away from stage 4 cancer and holding his hand thru it all this song is being played at his funeral in my eulogy. He was a police officer, fireman and then went on to become a machinist...The most wonderful soul and spirit always helping people always tell your loved ones you love them and stand beside them when god calls them home..Love you Leo with all my heart

Written by Neil Diamond. Made famous by The Hollies. In a perfect world, I should have liked to have heard the Carpenters cover it as well. All were good, don't get me wrong, it's just that it is a very sad song and Neil Diamond and the Carpenters were the only entertainers who could bring me to tears with their sad songs such as "Shilo," and "Goodbye To Love." I think Karen would have done it justice as well.

Not written by Neil DIamond - so he's still a great songwriter. This song was written by Scott/Russell.

@@Musiolafrompast I thought some of it was written by some 19th century priest who had happened upon a little girl carrying a child scarcely smaller than herself. That might be a fable though.

Thank you for your kind words. Still hoping and praying that I will one day find my brother. He disappeared in 1971 and had only been out of the Marine Corp for almost a year. I will never give up trying to find out what happen to him. Thanks again for the kind words, it helps to know that there are people out there that care. We as humans should care about each other, that is my prayer..
