...@Fell Wanderer not all things go according to plan my friend thinking on the feet is the skill youll almost certainly need to survive the wilderness and great outdoors...However an word of caution for novices/beginners is in order especially as those Kayaks are cheap plentifull and easily obtained from supermarket shelves these days unlike owning an traditional Canoe which would probably mean you have some kind of proffesional training which incidentally i do have...Never ever enter an water course without an life jacket since it costs next to nothing but will prevent even the poorest of swimmers from the threat of drowning...Also personally i would never recommend beaching an inflatable on an remote island with the risk of puncture and if youd like to Kayak as i have with open sea experience then get real proffesional training because not only could it save your life but will prevent the lives of others to be put at risk should you need an rescue...There really is nothing more treacherous than water respect it and then you can really enjoy its experience...!!

Hi, great video, good that you respected the wildlife. I was at the very spot you camped on Tuesday. Kate and I spent a few happy hours in the 'cove' I was fishing but the only bite I had was of Kates delicious sandwiches. It was from seeing your video that I worked out where this spot is located on Ullswater. Also using Google earth. I was looking for a place with rocks I could cast into deep water.This place is ideal even though no fish. It was flat calm at dusk really beautiful. So.. thanks for highlighting this place. Recently moved to live in Kendal am looking forward to more adventures. I meant to take some pics of the 'cove' to post here, but forgot. Cheers man. jB

john b Google Earth is good for looking for new camping locations I use it a lot, there are fish in Ullswater but the water is so large the fish get lost in there, I've caught lots of perch in the past but no trout, the water seems to go flat before dusk, its happened a few times for me and is always beautiful, thanks for watching

Thanks for your comment, it sometimes feels like hard work taking along a camera to film the adventure and there are times when I feel like leaving it at home, initially it was for me to record, share with family and to look back on in future years when I was too old to get out to do it all, but its evolved into something more, if my video's ignite the spark and inspires someone to get out to the great outdoors and enjoy what nature has to offer, then I'm more than happy.

Fell Wanderer As you said it is hard work to take the camera out i have tried it a few times just camping on a local field and can never get the right sort of footage although i am only a young en' and need to learn more about filming in the outdoors maybe do a video about how to and the best times to film on a wild camp ? but thanks anyway man for replying and keep up the amazing videos!! Parky :)
@Fell_Wanderer
@Fell_Wanderer 10 жыл бұрын
Its a little more than just taking footage, a bit of video techniques/ skills, editing, content and other things, think of it as telling a story, plan and write ideas down on paper, things you want to say and want to film, if I have an idea about something that might be interesting I jot it down so I don't forget. Break the trip down into parts or scenes (remember your telling a story), a day in the woods could be broken down into something like, the arrival, activities and packing up/leaving. this is just an example and may sound obvious and simplistic but its handy for organizing clips into sequences for editing on a computer. I try and keep clips short, its helps to keep the story flowing without people getting to bored with whats going on, do a rough edit then trim it down making it more polished and refined. Always be on the lookout for interesting things to happen so you can film it like wildlife or a good sunset etc.. I'm no expert and my way might not be the best way but these are the things I think of, also look at other peoples videos, you dont have to copy them but they might use an interesting filming technique you wanna use in your videos like a timelaspe or transitions then search youtube for a tutorial, that's how I learned, a little music at the end can really transform your work into something special but dont have it too loud, what music you like might piss someone else off if its loud and distracts from other content in the video but that depends whether you made the video for you or others first. Hope I've given you some helpful hints, atb Damian.

Hi mate, what knife is you have ? lovely scales on that handle. I'm looking for a new knife but spoiled for choice ! Did the sheath come with it or did you buy seperate ?
@Fell_Wanderer
@Fell_Wanderer 10 жыл бұрын
Fell Walker The knife is the TBS Boar Bushcraft and I did a video review about 12 months ago on this channel. The sheath came with the knife and although I didn't like it at first and planned to change it I've now warmed to it, although not as well finished and refined as some knives, it does offer good value for money for only £150 delivered which included a firesteel and DC4 sharpening stone. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a decent bushcraft knife costing half to what some knives are going for.

+Little Bull Bushcrafting I fly fish sometimes especially in late May when the Mayfly is hatching, the best sport for trout fishing, when even some of the most shy and so called educated fish will loose all inhibtions and take even a badly presented fly so is great for beginners, its often referred to duffers fourtnight.

I really enjoyed your vid, and the one where you caught the good sized brown trout. This might seem like a stupid question but do you literally just take your kayak down to the local river/canal or in this case the Lake District and paddle away, or do you need to get permission/license beforehand from someone?

One of my favourite videos of yours mate. What app do you use on your phone for the maps, as I'm planning a trip to ullswater myself for a solo kayak wild camp in the next few weeks and where is best to park near pooley bridge?
@Fell_Wanderer
@Fell_Wanderer 6 жыл бұрын
The apps I use are MM tracker and Alpinequest, both use ordnance survey .qct map files that work on both a PC and android devices. MM Tracker doesn't work properly on all devices so Alpinequest might be the best option.There are a couple of laybys on the A592 road west side of Ullswater, thats where I park but you have to get there early as there aren't many spaces. Parking at Ullswater is limited and for overnight parking I would pay to leave the car on one of the campsites and get someone to drop you off at the waterside. Thanks for watching, ATB

ullswater is a wonderful and beautiful place, no road lights, very quiet, nice place to chill n relax, stayed on ullswater near pooley bridge in sep 2014 and plan on doing same again this year, people are all very friendly too, amazing place for gettin out on the water or simply taking a hike or just sat all day reading a book and admiring the landscape, something for everyone and best of all no rowdy teenagers!! lol

Jamie Le'scot I like Ullswater because its not comercialised like Windermere, I prefer the top end at Glenridding with beautiful views of the mountains and from Place Fell/Patterdale Common, ATB, Damian

I have a Panasonic HC X900 and has 5.1 dolby digital audio which is a bit of a gimmick on an internal microphone, although the sound is ok for an internal mic. I have to stick foam over to cut down wind noise it has a x12 optical zoom with intelligent zoom to x23 without loosing image quality. 1080p cameras are becoming very affordable now so shop around, I fancy a Gopro hero3+ Black to add extra camera angles and they make a decent camera just on their own, As soon as you get started with your channel let us know and I'll take a look and subscribe, atb, Damian

You are rapidly becoming one of my favourite youtubers Damien. And you are inspiring me to get out and do a spot of wild camping myself. I'm looking into buying a kayak also, is there any that you would recommend?? Thanks.

I don't know what Kayak is best but the inflatable ones don't last long and eventually develop punctures. Mine is a Sevylor Tahiti and they seem to make decent kayaks at a good price.

Crackin video, ullswater is one of my fave english wild camp spots, and maybe if more campers did as good a job leaving no trace then wild camping might be more socially acceptable like it is in scotland, the few ruin it for the rest of us, well done for leaving the geese, your laid back manner comes across well, better than some of the ray mear wannabees who post

Sounds like you have a big kayak at 12ft. You should be able to carry more equiptment than me with my 2 person kayak, which is small and feels more like a 1 man boat with gear

It was a shame but the guilt would have got to me, the wind did pick up in the night so would have been a little exposed in the middle of Ullswater on Cherry Holm Island, Thanks for you comment.

just getting into wild camping do u ask the land owners permission or just camp n hope they don't spot u?
@mudwavessky3502
@mudwavessky3502 8 жыл бұрын
wild camping in my experience is best to set up late an pack up early leaving no trace that you were ever there. if you ask, they could always say no! if it's somewhere local that you will be returning to often it's a good idea to get friendly with the landowner though

How did you have footage of yourself leaving the first island from a camera still on that island? Then footage of you arriving on the second island from a camera already placed on that island?
@Fell_Wanderer
@Fell_Wanderer 4 жыл бұрын
I filmed myself leaving from the first island then went back for the camera. On the second island I arrived and setup the camera, then returned to the water and filmed my arrival. If the editing is done right you don't see behind the scenes, it all looks seemless from a viewers prospective, thanks for watching.
