if the time was so great and everything was/is better in uo … so why do you stop playing it ? I had my reasons. I would still play it i guess but unfortunately i destroyed my tamer which hat over 100 in lore by exidentially sinking the lore skill for musicanship and the admins didnt suport me in any way to correct my mistake. And so i decided the same day to quit immediately. I only had a look back to uo years later only to noticed that there arnt any players left. I still had my brooken character but fortunately there were tons of +taming +lore staffs and such things which compensate for that which also made GM of any kind worthless... so i ended up with 116 lore and 108 taming or so due to equippment which was way higher than in the past and i was able to command an ancient dragon without any effort which was kinda boring.

Yeah I think so. Just a low player base but there are some active servers out there. UO Outlands was cleaver enough to create a new map and world to explore with same game mechanics.

A seamless, non-instanced world. Build multiple houses almost anywhere. Why not work together with your guild to buy a castle and decorate it? Make a RP tavern. Communicate with other players on the bulletin board in town, or you can even build a bulletin board in your house to communicate with others who visit. It's a very immersive form of communication. Buy a boat and keep your things in it, and travel the world. Find treasure maps, either by killing a monster or purchasing from a vendor, use your boat to travel to them--if necessary--and dig them up. Be prepared for a fight when you open the chest. Get a hireling. Do a dynamic quest. Mine. Fish. Tame many of the creatures you see. Make a farm. A minimap shows what's nearby. Use the Mark spell to store a place in the wold on a rune. Place the rune in your bag or in a book. Use the Recall spell on a rune to travel to that location anytime, instantly. Travel via the portals to different places in the world. Purchase a vendor and put it in your house, so other players can visit and purchase wares you're selling. Write a book, heck, write several books! Make potions. Be a blacksmith. Make traps with the tinkering skill, or learn how to remove them via the Remove Trap skill or the Telekenisis spell. Buy a horse for faster travel. Learn pottery to make potion bottles If you die, you respawn as a ghost at your corpse. Find a healer to resurrect at a town. Gosh you might find a Healer in the wilderness! Be a lumberjack and down some trees. Sell the logs to a carpenter or become a carpenter yourself. No classes. Learn any skill you want, with only the total skill points you can spend being a limitation. Make campfire and cook your meats. Logout at your campfire quickly. Was immersive. On and on....

i remember my first experience was walking into Britannia and seeing Lizard men attacking everybody at the bank. I ran away half alive and bumped into a girl player and asked for help but she couldn't speak English and replied in Japanese. All of the sudden lizard men spawned next to us and started attacking us and we ran into a house and tried hiding but they came inside and killed us. Good times

My absolute without a doubt favourite game of all time. I played in starting in about 2002 when I finally had a computer and an internet connection that could play it. My dad was pissed that he always missed phone calls. Oh the days of dialup. I have stopped and started over the years again and again. Just recently started an endless journey account from scratch just to play a bit.

When I started playing this game in the 90's this game had captured my imagination. I fucking fell in love. Some kid from middle school was like 'dude you got to play this game' and so I gave it a shot. I fucking loved it. My first experience was being a newb and walking north on a trail and there were three dudes on horses walking towards me and I said 'hey' and I just saw "corp por" above one of the guys heads. Then I died. That's when I said 'this game was made for me.' Throughout the years my character Johnny B. Good (a thief I made who became notorious) terrorized the cities. I was in heaven. There's nothing like just making yourself grey and someone else attacking you feeling like they're a badass until they realize their up against a hardcore pvp 'thief.' One time someone at one of the banks that saw someone attack me said 'oh no, you done fkd up. Because thats johny b good.' He knew what he was talking about.

Thanks for the video. I really miss this game. UO was destroyed when EA fully took over and Trammel was introduced. They completely took away the risk vs reward. No MMORPG has ever come close to the old UO. I've attempted many, but they all fall short. They're all the same now, consensual pvp, forced grouping to do raids to get epic loot, you can't even be a solo gamer anymore.

We used to custom build our own maps, and custom coded combat, crafting, etc. I have no idea how I existed, what with my longest logged in time being over 36 hours straight. XD Full-time addicted player from 2004-2012. All my old homes are dissapeared.

The bank box seems stupid because you're on Endless Journey (free version). If you subscribe you get the old bank back, with full storage. Free servers are cool and old, pre Age of Shadows UO was awesome, but the way the game has progressed since then is also really great. All the "New" stuff you're referencing has slowly trickled into the game over the course of 20 years and has added significant depth. The best thing, in my opinion, about modern UO is how it has expanded your ability to come up with truly unique character builds. All of the gear choices allow you to really play around with your skills and stats to come up with some crazy fun builds. Sure, lots of people play the same sorts of templates but you *can* put together a necro parry ninja wrestle mage and have a blast with it. Definitely couldn't do that in the early days of UO. Anyway, I am sure you already know all this but I'm making this post for anyone who watches the video and might be discouraged from playing because they saw how awful your bank interaction was... TLDR; That's not the real bank box guys, it's the "endless journey" box and it does suck but you also can't have a house with an endless journey (free) account so just subscribe and you'll get the original drag and drop bank box. Annnd... If you played the game after Age of Shadows and liked all the new armor states/faster casting/new dungeons/champion spawns/etc then don't worry, the game mechanics have not significantly changed since that time (over 15 years...). Free Shards are still cool if you just want the old school (first few years of the game) feel or you want something unique but do consider coming back to the official shards. It's, in my opinion, an even better game today.

Amazing how a Game made more than 23 years ago is better than all the mmo made after.. it was not a farm machine game like wow and others. the loot was one of the best feature as well with the Gdr possibility and the immense customization by non official shards, i actually played UO on an italian server, it was magic! it was with levels instead of %, you didn't have to do the usual process to make your character stronger but was actually more similar to wow, you had to go hunt to monster with friends or alone, there were races and factions, there were classes and when reaching some levels you had to choose a specialization, was so fukin cool !

most players hang out in Malas Luna Bank. Atlantic is one server that's still heavily populated. cost of living there is extremely high on top of land being scares. returning players bank is limited until you subscribe

Currently looking for a game Like this. Been googling for hours. I remember picking a starting race. Spawning in a village (orcs) and always got stuck mining and/or foraging forever. There were a spider cave with distinct red spiders which could drop valuable gems sometimes. Not alot to go on but, i remember it well, nice artstyle, good SFX.

Loved this game. Played Tommy on test servers, think I had quite a few decent characters on many servers. Best amazing at the start before the two worlds where you was always worried of getting PK after you. It was actually a lot harder to get a single grandmaster skill also

However i feel they could have opened up a little more for free, as well. But it is a fine balance.

I played from 2000-2004, I just returned about 3-4 months ago. Much better gameplay not being on a 56k modem now! 6:38 - that book is the reason I quit. I got tired of being dismounted in PvP. If anyone knows the date when that came out, I would love a reply!

the primary and secondary weapon abilties have existed before the runuo emulator days. the server youre connected to is a runuo / servuo server. my server is fineuo and has been in service for 5 years but its only in private development. ive got some regular players but im not part of a voting system or top sites or any of that. when i finish my complete set of custom monster mobs and monster spawns, ill list mine. there is fel and trammy and trammy exists because of the griefing to ensure everyone had the ability to play if they wanted to.

Didn't stick around for rennisance and all those others. Did play a few private servers back when the major fan content was flash (pre adobe whatever it used to be called)

My memory is not all that great about what version of the game I was playing on. I just remember the awesome times I had playing the game. Home from work. Fire up the game and play until 4-5 in the morning when I had to work at 7. Wow so much time in this game.

@@Clobberstomped So many aspects of the game I wish were in modern MMO design. If I had to compare anything to it it would be some of the more popular survival genre games like rust. Especially when you had naked wizards running around on budget magic builds "Corp Por" spam. Even the ability to play board games with people.. player housing in the world and not in an instance. It actually kind of makes me sad just thinking about what simple feature is that game had that brought people together. And even if you died to a PK it wasn't that big of a loss but it was significant enough to where PK vs PKK battles got huge. Especially at crossroads West of Brit bank

I keep trying to go back to this, my first MMO. The gameplay, class system, loot, housing, crafting, literally every single aspect of the game I yearn for. But then I log in, and the visuals ruin it for me. Why, oh why, can't there be an exact replicate redesigned to a more modern look and feel? I truly don't mind outdated graphics. It's the looking downward, and the chat engine that kills it for me. Nicer character appearance would be great too. UO could be a goldmine for a team of devs to update, while not changing anything else about it. There's a reason it's still alive all these years later.. Because it's a great game.

Still that dang camera angle down, weird movement, tiny radar map I can barely see so I'm always lost, but I'm giving it a shot.. It does look nicer, and is obviously modeled after UO. Can't find the Settlers you mention.

be aware that free to play players will not be able to place houses, have limited bank, and all kind of other limitations that make it not such a great experience. I wish EA were not so greedy with the monthly fee, otherwise i would be happy to pay a one time 30$ or something to get full access like other games do

I think it is mostly gone but who knows perhaps there are still hardcore players out there rocking some PvP. I would expect on UO Outlands there is PvP.

27th of december 1997 i got this game, i quit playing actively around 2005 but ever sense 1997 27th of december i login and do some nostalgy playing. like make a new toon, hit despise and so on. This game was robbed from so mutch love really wish the outcome would had been better. 2nd to that i do understand things dident go so well for UO with being the first highly Active mmoprg. were like nothing else they could Watch and learn from.

I remember seeing Ultima (I can't remember what number it was) at a friends house many years ago and being absolutely captivated with it. But the guy was an absolute fuckwit that everybody hates. OMFG.....I remember playing this game the 1st year it came out. (3 years of my life.) I used to made real thousands of $ playing this game. Selling virtual items on ebay. Especially homes. I sold a castle for 1k. I remember also Walmart was selling the game for $5 by mistake in there end I believe so I bought every box game that was stock in that store and sold each of them for $15-$20 on ebay....I had to quit cause I went back into the military and had no time. Sold my accounts also in ebay....Good times. Played in Chesapeake, Atlantic, Great Lakes, Arirang, Napa, Siege Perilous and Pacific which was my favorite due to meeting alot of people.
