Where did the terminology arise from. For instance why is mid wicket called so. I get that positions like cow-corner and cover, got the name as a cow would be grazing in that particular non busy section of the ground and a cover would be kept in storage respectively. How about for the others? Mid On? Mid Off?

hmm I remember it pretty easily and my way. bowler, wicketkeeper, 4 slips, short third man, gully, silly point, short cover, short extra cover, short mid-off, short mid-on, short mid-wicket, short square leg, short fine leg, leg gully, leg slip. third man, backward point, point, cover, extra cover, mid-off, mid-on, mid-wicket, square leg. deep third man, deep backward point, deep point (sweeper), deep cover, deep extra cover, Long-off, Long-on, Cow corner, deep midwicket, deep square leg, long leg, fine leg.
