Aveline is one of the few times that bioware attempting a sort of "regular human" character really worked for me because she comes up from the bottom with Hawke.

Not only that but she is the archetypal strong female warrior, but they also gave her such a fun personality. Like she is very serious and stern while also being a bumbling goofball who can't romance pretty men and is also very sweet. I just really enjoy Aveline a lot. I think the DA team have written some of my favorite female characters in any video game series.

In short, she really is a textbook cop. I get the feeling that the game wants us to like and trust her but she’s got enough red flags to open a wholesale red flag shop.

I'm glad to find someone else who likes Aveline, because I really enjoy her character and she gets a lot of hate. Which, understandably, she has some pretty bad opinions and is unnecessarily mean to some of the other companions (though most of the companions are unnecessarily mean to each other in DA2), but I really enjoy her relationship with Hawke if you befriend her, and her banters with Varric and Fenris. I smirked when you put Erimond in "Awful, but in an asshole way" because he's actually the subject of one of my favorite companion banters in Inquisition. Cassandra asks Cole if he sensed a secret pain in Erimond, and Cole bluntly retorts, "No, Erimond is an asshole" and it makes Cass laugh. I also agree about Merril, and I've played a run with a bloodmage Hawke that romanced her just to see if maybe I was missing something, but just... her character arc feels unfinished, and her actions never actually come to anything of substance. It feels like she was the buildup to something that just didn't pay off. Orsino is such a weird one- I remember learning after the fact that the whole questline with Hawke's mother was supposed to be foreshadowing for his turning into the Harvester at the end, but I absolutely did not pick up on that during my playthrough. It felt very out of nowhere when it happened and pretty hypocritical to boot. X'D Aaaah the Architect. He's such an interesting character with a storyline that has so much potential, and they've just done nothing with it. XDDD He is so mid because as the story stands now he just shows up, does a thing, and then the plot forgets he existed. He doesn't even get referenced in Inquisition despite Corypheus so obviously being a fellow Magister Sidereal and that being the perfect time to cameo literally any of the Awakening companions to go "Oh, hey, wait a minute-" Maybe they should've used Sigrun or Velanna or hell even Oghren instead of the nothing-burger that was Stroud. XDDD (I know it had to be Stroud as the Default if nobody else worked, but he's so not interesting and undercuts the choice of who to leave in the fade if he's your warden, lol.)

hey, so idk if this really lines up with what you're trying to do with the DA 1/201 stuff, but I think discussing some of the themes and symbology of dragon age would help people grasp onto important bits of information in their journey through thedas for instance, reflections come up constantly (the eluvian, how darkspawn are twisted versions of the humanoid races, the land of the fade itself being a dreamlike reflection of thedas, the old gods reflecting the elven pantheon, etc), and/or echoes (like how lyrium supposedly sings, the chant of light, and how stories reverberate throughout history like the scorned woman, etc) just, things repeating or reflecting is everywhere. whatever you would call that. it's just incredibly potent symbology that permeates the entire dragon age experience, from my perspective it would be cool at the least to get to know how you sort of symbolically compartmentalize the world of thedas, and giving people a heads up of useful symbology to pay attention to could give them a foundation to more quickly start interpreting the world, outside of also memorizing events

Not to defend Isseya too much because she is ultimately the reason the griffons died out, but she at least didn't want to put more griffons through The Joining. She did still do it when ordered to, but she didn't want to. She is also the reason a clutch of untainted griffon eggs made it to the future and there's a baby griffon in the next game (although given the events of Last Flight I personally don't think the Grey Wardens should have them, but I'll reserve full judgment until I see what happens with that in Veilguard). I guess I like Isseya more than I thought I did before writing this up, haha!

I did hear some that made stop and laugh out loud or made me think about where I would put them. - Morrigan was always going to be my "I will burn Thedas For You." If somehow the series' final ending is that you have to pick between Morrigan and Thedas, I am sorry ajsklf. - I wanna defend my girl Celene. I think she belongs in Good. Not in a "she's a good person" way but in a "She's a Good Character Who Exemplifies The Ethos Of Dragon Age In A Spectacular Manner" way; the Mythal connection, the fact that she appears to be the only person in the history of Orlais who is aware that they suck ass actually (affectionate) and is trying to fix it, the utterly human character that she is who makes mistakes but does it in a way you can kinda understand. I also want to dispute that she's awful to Briala - well, she IS but tbf they are both awful to each other lmao. Celene kills Briala's parents, Briala sets Celene's purpose for living on fire by starting the Civil War. Equally awful imo when Celene's every transgression against Briala is caused by her love for Orlais and her desire for it to be stable, which then becomes immediately void when Briala starts the Civil War and therefore makes every atrocity Celene has committed in prole of Orlais utterly meaningless. And these assholes still want to be together. 10/10 support this toxic yuri couple who deserve each other in the best AND worst possible way. - Not Mother Giselle being racist 😭😭. You're so right tho, lmao. I also think she's one of the few people who actually have view of the chantry that is congruent with Reality (No offense to Leliana or Cassandra) and wants it to be better in a way that doesn't abuse the system (Viv, I love you, but GIRL!) - the Drakon thing slayed me, asjkldf. You have this dude's whole backstory memorized, every single mention of him, even the wife (who I also love, Area, babygirl I hope you become relevant!!), and the name is just gone. Hilarious 10/10 relatable, im so sorry, lmao. I'd put him good= near the same spot as Celene tbh. - all the little side characters that got in good spoke to my soul tho, I love the small characters! I think they are what really make the world fun to explore. Much as I love the major players of this game, man, the quality of the side characters is superb. This was fun Caitie! Charade definitely deserved a more fleshed out arc, I feel like she was meant to introduce us to the Red Jenny’s but seeing as her and Sera are the only ones we meet, the faction still just feels like a concept that never really got the attention they set up to deliver. Also, I’d put personally put Cullen and Alistair in the same sort of mid tier for basically being the same character but one of them joined Grey Wardens instead of being dedicated to the Templars.
