Watching this video for the second time. Just ordered 3 sets of Shark Hinges and some wood to steel adapters. I may try to video my very odd fence build and request you to review it. May be a few months down the road. But thanks for the motivation to encourage me to take on this task.

What gauge square tubing do yall use? I really want to start using this method.

@joe Everest 40:47 do you guys think drill holes on other side of plate to allow excess bolt length to pass thru so wouldn’t need to cut bolt down flush w/ nut? Would require extra step in fab but would save time for installers & wouldn’t need ban saw or grinder or cutoff saw 🤔

Residential fences get the short end of the stick. Any concrete guy will tell you a dry pour is not the same as mixed it is just a time saver.

All the fences in my neighborhood are falling over this is why I'm watching the videos because even though I'm a really good Carpenter I am not a fencemaster even though it's pretty straightforward except for when I watch programs like these they solve the issues of why and what to look out for as to why the fences in my neighborhood are falling over I mean if I'm being asked to fix a fence I want to figure out what mistakes were done and how I can prevent them

Dry-setting posts is not the same as mixing it, but in 20 years as a contractor, I’ve never once seen a fence post fail simply due to it being dry-set.

Residential fence where I am, we drill just over 4 feet deep because 4 is the frost line for us, we throw the post in the hole, soak the bottom of the hole with water, dump a bag of sakrete rapid post, soak more water, second bag of rapid post, more water and a couple stabs with the rock bar then the third bag, a bunch of water and multiple stabs with the rock bar and that’s good to go. 3 bags in a hole drilled with a 12 inch auger bit and a 6x6 post normally puts you a foot to 16 inches below grade so once the concrete is set we pack in a bunch of the dirt that came out, top with an inch or two of screened topsoil and cut in some sod around the post. The bags say you only need two bags per post but I was always taught 3 so that’s what I do and lots of guys throw down seed but I find that more of a pain than just sodding and sod is only about $0.50 a square foot cost for Kentucky blue in my area so it’s not really costing me anything to toss it in and have a fully completed job when I walk off site at the end

We also use a 6 foot or 4 foot level for getting plumb on our posts simply because the lumber we are able to get just readily available is generally never perfectly straight so with the longer level it helps avoid getting false readings because of bows, hooks, twists, kicks or bends in the lumber itself and we can get closer to a true reading on plumb than a little torpedo or the post levels will give you

For the picket near the hinges on the gate, would the gate still work if we custom cut the picket to make that gap smaller just like you did the latch picket?

What are the things my dad taught me when I was digging ditches for conduit. He would mark a line on my shovle. No tape measures down the hole no losing tape.

How do you know how much water to use in the dry pack?

Love the videos. Super pro and well explained. Any chance you could do a video on concrete panels or siding for fencing? Seems like they would last a long time and be good for sound dampening. Would the post master posts hold up a 6 foot tall concrete panel fence ok? Would it be worth the expense?
@JoeEverest Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I wouldn’t think the postmaster posts would have the strength to hold a concrete panel. The systems I’ve seen using concrete panels also used a concrete post reinforced with rebar.

How wide can you make a gate like that with 1 hinge? I need the gate to be 55 inches so I can get my lawn mower through it.
@THEATREGOD35 ай бұрын
I thought same thing when someone told me do that. I mean it's really hard to tell how well you mix it in the hole I tried it and it worked fine the gates to love the posts are still good there's no wiggle

As a carpenter, I cringe seeing you "dry pour" the holes. But I guess it works for fence posts

I'm glad I ran across your channel. I've been scrolling thru random videos of yours that I'm hoping will help me. I'm planning to put up an 8' privacy fence between mine and a d**k neighbor. I want to do 8' for my backyard and go to 6' for the front after my house. It's a 360' run. There's a chain link on property line on his side but previous owners of my house went from that fence to my house with a large gate (vehicle entrance) with chainlink. I've kind measured off every 8' and my current gate falls in between post and where I would like to begin the transition. If you could either make a video or help guide me on a transition that would be awesome. Sorry for the long comment also 😂
@JoeEverest Жыл бұрын
For 8’ tall fence I’d say the maximum distance between posts would be 6’. 4’ if you’re in an area that gets a good amount of wind.
@slamdhatch1150 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeEverest so I'll be ok to keep the current post distance at 8ft for the front where I want to be at 6ft tall then where my last post falls before my current gate measure 6ft from there on for 8ft fence. What's going to confuse me is transitioning down. It's hard to describe my layout for you in text. It would be so much easier if I could post pictures lol
