I started cutting my own hair beginning covid. It took me around 1 year to get to the point where I can get away with it and I am actually starting to learn how to fade. Few tips that I have: take your time, don't cut too much. And don't worry if your haircut doesn't look the same as all these KZbin guides, your hair is different. I got asian hair, so very spikey, so when I cut it like the tutorials, it would be sticking up a lot, so i can't go too low. Learn from your mistake. For me I think I need another 2 years to get to the point where i am 100% happy with my skills. I am already 80% cool with what I can do, but learning how to fade and blend my haircut is the next step

This is a list to help people who know how to do it but would like to read it so they don't pause all the time the video so basically: #4 (13mm) OPEN - straight up towards the ceiling, and to fade the longest hair on top with your sides #3 (10mm) CLOSED - high as possible without passing the #4 cut #2 (6mm) CLOSED - high as possible without passing the #3 cut #1 (3mm) OPENED - just along the sideburns and just a bit over the ears #1 (3mm) CLOSED - just along the sideburns NO GUARDS OPEN - just along the sideburns to give it a faded look #1 (3mm) CLOSED - on your neck and behind the ears NO GUARDS OPEN - to fade your backline to your neck TRIMMER - make a straight line on the sides behind the ears to your neck and clearing around the ears NO GUARDS CLOSED - to finalize on your neck fading it out TRIMMER - to shape up your beard, curve the sideburns, cut excess hair and clean it up ON TOP: Nr 1 option: Scissors - with your hand go along your hair and trimm the uneven/curly/out of place hair Nr 2 option: Clipper + Guard #8 (25mm) OPEN - comb your hair first forward, start from the back to your front and you dont have to press much on the front side

Just want to give you a big thanks for your videos. Through trial and error I finally perfected my self-haircuts. Scary at first but so worth it. I’ve been following you since the beginning of the pandemic and still continue to follow your videos to refresh. I practically fired my barber lol. Fresh cuts every week if I want to and $ave lots of $. Thanks for what you do! From Hawaii to you “Mahalo!”

I’m in the same journey. I tried cutting my own hair back in 2010 and 2017 and promised never to try again as I did terrible. Now with those informational KZbin videos like this one I’m trying again and feel confident I can learn to cut my own hair ! Thanks !

Very good video. I’ve been following your last video of this haircut and because of you I’ve saved so much money. I can’t believe how easy it is to cut your own hair. All the hairdressers have increased their prices soooo high up since COVID and I just didn’t want to pay ridiculous amounts. But from your amazing videos I’m now self taught and I cut all the boys hairs in my home too. With the money saved I invested in hair clippers and cut my own hair too. People are shocked when I tell them I cut it myself. GREAT UPDATED VERSION! This video has more detail.

God forbid Barbers try and make money after being forced to shut down for a year without any help. They have family's and bills too. I guarantee you look goofy and your poor sons do too thanks to you. Go to a barber and stop being cheap, no need to make your kids suffer.

@@MisterFatherSir310 Actually the barbers were fine as they received 80% of their wages paid from the government by sitting at home doing nothing. Which again comes from tax payers money. So if you got nothing nice to say I suggest you shut your mouth. These videos are tutorials for people to learn to cut their own hair if you don’t like it then simply don’t be watching these videos and Criticising people for learning off them.

I just tried my second time cutting my hair. My hair is longer now though. I always have trouble blending the top with the sides even though I’m always trying to go up. It’s like there’s not enough pressure for the hair to fall into the guard.
@symondo58832 жыл бұрын
Try combing it down. Or, look up videos of a using a no2/3 guard and shave downwards and this will prevent the mushroom look and blend easily

Question - when you get down to the 1 I see you do up to the ear on the sides and the use on the back. DO you also use the 1 BEHIND the ears as well? OR does that stay at a 2? Thanks for the very helpful videos

Thanks to you my haircut this month has a wicked fade and I’m thrilled. Excellent videos especially this one. You explain what to do as you’re doing it… PLUS you give details of what to do if I’m uncertain. Going up from 4-6 made all the difference. I thought going down in number but going up really helped me cut the top.

In order to cut your own hair or someone else hair you have to understand how the clippers work and different techniques. You have to master it yourself videos wont help you all the way . The clippers are in your hand .Goodluck

Not true for me. I've now been cutting my hair for a couple of years using Stephen's videos as my guide (he's a REALLY good teacher on how to cut your own hair). I've got to the point where I think I prefer my cuts to the cuts I used to get from hairdressers. I'm also complimented on my cuts by others when I tell them I cut my hair myself.
