Heads up, you can't actually CAST 6th level spells with a split like that. You can cast a spell UPCAST to level 6. There is a difference. Also, Paladin smites only go to level 4 spell slots. You cannot upcast them further.

As an avid ttrpg player who played a Conquest paladin 6 Dragon Sorcerer 10 (only go to 16th level) I will say that, yes, you can only smote up to 5d8 (4th level smite.) HOWEVER, you CAN use your extra spell slots to create sorcery points, and do not underestimate the power of a quickened hold person + crit smites.

Man, I'm not even halfway through this and I've already appreciated every second of this video. I love that you're showing us what's POSSIBLE with this. I've been trying to find out how a paladin sorcerer would work who doesn't focus on weapon attacks all the time for lore reasons, so this video was hugely helpful since it's not just about min-maxing. Just wanted to put this here: I used Devotion Paladin 6/ Storm Sorcery 6, and used the Infernal Rapier with maxed out Charisma. I like Devotion's Channel Oath ability to add your Charisma mod to attack rolls, which is essentially doubled on the Rapier (the extra summon is nice too). And Holy Rebuke is... neat. Also having the Tempestuous Magic ability after Smite Spells or after casting Bless or Haste is just chef's kiss. Shield of Devotion is almost a requirement I feel. Not only cuz it's appropriately named, but also it gives an extra spell slot, plus Aid. More health, more Smites.

to be fair, if I'm going to multiclass paladin with a pure caster, I think I prefer the bard. my first playthrough was with a paladin 2/swords bard 10, never looked back. the flourishes add so much to your combat capabilities, your smites are as good as if you took sorcerer, and you get access to healing word and spirit guardians among others. the only time I'd consider going sorc instead would be with the divine soul subclass modded in.

17:50 Oath of Cop doesn't give you resistance, it gives you a useless perk that slightly increases your movement speed in the next turn after you do an 'opportunity attack'. It's the Oath of Ancients that gives you an aura that grants resistance to spell damage.

Randomly decided to switch my Durge from fighter to sorcadin, to try out both classes a bit at the same time. This guide is very useful, also got your necromancer build saved for my evil wizard. You are describing everything nicely even for a dummy me, who got into this type of RPG with this game. Plus you have a nice voice, easy to listen to and writing down notes :) I'll be having human (i know, boring, but its my only boring human out of 6 characters) storm sorcerer (up to lvl 5) with oath of ancients (lvl 7) paladin. Not much sense for Durge, but its ok, she hit her head and woke up to be good :D

I love your thought process. I finally sat down and did a RP play through. No midmaxing. I created a gyth cleric w/ soldier background. (It’s hard for me to not see them as anything else than soldiers) And his story was, he reluctantly picks up arms again to cure himself of his tadpole after the nautiloid plucked him from his monastery. So dealing with Lea’zel is a bit of a pain because he’s trying to move past his life of endless servitude and the contact clash of “duty to vlaakith” really does him in. So he avoids any and all crèches unless exceedingly necessary

Lockadin is probably better for laezel simply because of Silver sword vs Giant slayer. Giant slayer forces you to chug giant elixirs or use the cloud giant gauntlets. With leazel or any gith you can get the most out of being a truly SAD build and pump charsiama and do almost as much damage as giant slayer while getting soulbreaker attack. My lockadin DURGE went with the MAD route and went x1 str and 3x Cha damage but if I was gith I'd just ignore str and use the silver sword.

My favorite Sorcadin build is my 4 Storm Sorcerer/6 Oath of Ancients Paladin/2 Life Cleric. Through the leveling it goes 1 Sorc/1 Cleric/6 Paladin/1 Cleric/3 Sorc. I use bless on heal ring, blade ward on heal gloves, then as much AC, saving throw, and damage reduction gear as possible. Ultimate support buffer that still slaps in melee.

best helmet for sorcadin has got to be the arcane synergy helmet. You set a condition for even just farting in this game so it has 100% uptime, which means your charisma modifier is always getting added to your melee attacks - without sacrificing the strength addition that pact of blade causes. Its additive and a crazy double dip of strength and charisma into your melee attacks.

How often are you inflicting conditions though? Surely with your spells you just want to be smiting? And not using the smite spells either like thunderous/searing smite because those still use up a spell slot even if you miss.

@@chrisb5005 conditions are inflicted 100%. Even a condition on yourself. This game has everything tagged as a condition. Easiest way is to play instrument at the start of turn. It takes and uses no resources or action points. You don’t need to be a bard or have any musical talent as “playing badly” is a condition you inflict that procs the helmet. Hence you can have it up 100% of the time. Many other free ways to proc a condition. Stepping on stuff, walk through something. If it’s positive or negative on you - it counts as you inflicting a condition Your Paladin auras (that are always up) also count as a condition you are inflicting on yourself and allies and thus you will have 100% uptime for free

One cool thing you can do is equip those spell slot restore necklaces, create sorcery points, regain the slot with the amulet, then swap over to a different necklace (there are alot of great cast a spell once necklaces). You can basically bank up a bunch of points right after your long rest and use them until you need to long rest again. Scrolls / items that let you cast a spell for a free are great because you can use metamagic on them. A build I'd really love to see is one that is all about leaning into and enchancing those illithid powers and using them as your main means of doing stuff in act three.

It's a straight build for improved smite or warlock dips for extra attack. The sorsadin would be much better if we had access to the divine soul subclass.

One comment on the saving throw profiency when multiclassing. You talk about how sorcerer adds Constitution saving throws proficiency which is good for mantaining concentration on spells. That part is very much true and that's why I multiclass into Sorcerer a lot, but it will only give it if you pick Sorcerer level 1. I am not sure why it shows in the leveling up screen, but if you check after leveling, it will not be there. The only other way to add an extra proficiency saving throw is through a feat which I think is called "Resilient", it increases an ability by 1 and gives you prof on saving throws. PS: I very much liked the guide, you give really good tips, keep it going! Have a nice day ^^

After watching this video I decided to go a complete different direction with 2 Fighter/5 Veng Paladin/1 Light Cleric/4 Assassin and taking War Caster & ASI. With Con prof/adv you can keep up 100% uptime on magic weapon, lots of advantages with vow of enmity, action surge with Inquisitor's Might. It also checks both face/rogue role with 1 point of Light Cleric for Warding Flare and cantrips. Makes for a great Hero Face, both defense/two weapon style, high AC with medium armor, with good burst potential on openers & crit smites stacked with weapon buffs. Combine with haste/warding bond from a bard/cleric or sorc/life cleric and go hard.

I stumbled into this build when my Drow Sorcerer (archivist who discovered fey blood in her family tree) came across Phalar Aluve at 4th level. She felt called to join the Church of Eilastraee, but a cleric didn't work because of her dead average Wisdom, so a Paladin fit the bill. Tempestuous Flight makes her a great 'striker' with its ability to ignore AoO; can charge into melee, Thunderous Smite something and then float out with no consequences. As a historian went hard with INT (for a CHA build) and Sage, not optimal but fits for RP reasons and helps get access to some unique dialog and Inspiration points. With the fey background, Oath of the Ancients was the obvious choice.

A 5paladin. 7 sorcerer split is really cool. I'm going with the fire axe from actiii to add heat. Quicken spell to a fireball to add more heat. Pyrokentics hat for an extra bonus action into another fireball with fire convergence. You can take the boots or gloves (or both). Adding on haste / speed potion means even more attacks or spells. Flame convergence is nice for AoE because it allies that extra damage to everyone hit. Its a fun build that can do a lot of NOVA.

My family got bigger near Christmas, so I've had to cancel all Patreon's and donations so I try to re-run your playlists and let the ads run. Anyway, I always do what you say and play it my way, but your videos have helped me make some fav's. Suboptimal favourites but that's not the point. Using Half-Orc, Gith or Z-Tiefling gets Martial Weaponry and Armours depending how you level. Blade Warlock 5, Ven/Broke Paladin 5, Fighter 2 (very vanilla, I know) 17 CHA, 19 with ASI, 20 with Hag. 3 standard attacks before Haste or Action Surge. Action Surge and Warlock Slots return after a short rest or aong of rest. You get things like EB and Hex, obviously Divine Smite, 2nd wind and lay of hands. Great Weapon Fighter as a fighting choice, defense for the extra 1 AC, Orc's built in Savage Attacker, plus the feat Savage Attacker. Plenty of armour, equipment and weapons improve it all round. Using a Dragonborn for Sorcerer 4/ Lore Bard 8. Double Haste etc, can hold 2 hand crossbows, arrows and scrolls as back-up. There's better support but I like it, plus equipment again. Sword Bard 6, Gloom Ranger 4, 2 Fighter with dual crossbows. 20 DEX with Hag and ASI, Sharpshooter feat. Again, Bardic Inspiration for flourish and Action Surge both short rest returns. Works well supporting my Monk friend, getting his Ki back constantly. Druid Moon or Land 6, Light Cleric . Land Druid brings back their own spell slot with short rests and gets haste. Haste yourself or surround yourself in spirit Guardians, get in there as a bear or owlbear with multiple hits and the extra health pool. When they break it and you return to bein a Cleric, Radiance of Dawn aoe and Disengage or Sanctuary if that wasn't enough to kill what's around you. Again, nothing optimal, just fun. Wild Shape can also Rage. Can also use Blood of Lathender and Shield. Standard-ish Gunslinger Bard gets an off-hand shot, free ambusher shot, 2 flourish shots for 2 hits each . . . and that's without Haste or Action Surge bringing another 4 shots each. Fighter LockaDin effective everywhere, especially with Agonising Blast and Devil's Sight, other party members having Darkness. A few things like Bard 5 onwards, Warlocks, Monks Ki, Fighter Action Surge all return with short rest. Hirelings on camp can add more Songs of rest. Land Druid can top up the odd spell slot. Plenty of Party Face choices. Still, all the items to add. Medium Adamantine Armour and Wonderous Gloves in Act 1. The Haste etc casters can grab War Caster. Anyway, that's long enough! Just enjoy your videos, helped me enjoy the game even more

I made myself a 6 Paladin (Vengeance) / 6 Sorcerer (Storm) and did a lightning paladin combo where my team throws water with Mage Hands and then I cast double damage Lightning Bolt or Call Lightning. It's extremely strong for about 2 fights per day, then you run out of spell slots and sorcery points. I also brought Minthara with me a lot as a Paladin/Bard multiclass and she was way stronger than me. I did 9 Paladin (Oathbreaker) / 3 Bard (Swords) and gave her the Helldusk armor from the House of Hope along with the Shield of the Undevout and the Cloak of the Weave. She was just constantly fearing evveryone and critting with 3rd and 4th level smites on multiple targets with Slashing Flourish. Swords Bard is broken.

As a paladin, you only ever need to cast 2 things: Smite and Heals. Casting anything else is a huge waste of a spell slot simply because of how good Smite is. You don't want any concentration spells not only because they're a waste like I said above but also because since you're on the frontline you will be hit a lot and lose concentration a lot, especially with only 14 into constitution. Paladin is a nuker, and your nuke is Smite. Sorcerer's purpose is to just gives you extra nuke ammo, you won't cast sorc spells unless you really want to kill a ranged target asap or something.

I think you have critically undermined some fantastic paladin spells. Shield of faith can be cast as a bonus action for +2 AC which in 5e can be a massive boost. Protection from evil and good is disadvantage on all attack rolls against you by a massive catalogue of enemies. Misty step provides some oft-needed battlefield mobility and has won me a few fights. Wrathful Smite, while yes a smite but a spell nonetheless has also been a game changer on occasion.

One note for the min/max of this. Going as 1 lvl sorc to start out gives you CON save proficiency, so you're more likely to hold onto your Concentration spells if you get hit. Downside being you're less likely to resist Save Vs Suck spells until you get Aura of Protection online.

You mention that multiclassing to sorcerer while you already having 2 levels of paladin (~25:20) will give you proficiency in constitution rolls, that ain't true since you only get the proficiencies from the starting class (wis+cha for your character at that time since it's paladin).

If you go this high into paladin (lvl 10), just don't multiclass at all. With muticlassing, at that point, you're losing on a FREE +1d8 radiant damage on ALL your attacks (at lvl 11), and a 3rd feat, in exchange for a possible minor 'early game' bonus from other class... while already being in act 3. If you really want to multiclass though- go 9/3 because that 10th level doesn't give you anything of value anyway. The aura of courage is useless 99.9% of time, and even in those few rare cases where it is possibly-useful, the enemy that wants to frighten you first needs to make you fail that wisdom saving throw, so it's your aura of protection (and proficiency in wisdom saving throws you get for being a paladin) that does the actual heavy lifting, and in case of a multiclass into sorcerer- you're losing 1 'caster level' by doing so. 10/2 has 7 caster levels (5 from paladin, 2 from sorcerer), 9/30 has 8 (4.5, rounded up to 5, from paladin, and 3 from sorcerer) The game (and DnD in general) rounds up your caster levels from Paladin/Ranger ((with exception of 0.5 caster level you get at lvl 1) so you get the 5th caster level on your 9th paladin level, not on the 10th. By going 10/2 instead of 9/3 You're also losing on: A sorcery point, additional "metamagic" (which can be the quickened spell so you can actually cast something, without sacrificing damage output from your melee attacks) 2nd level Sorcerer spells like misty step (so you don't have to go for Oath of Triggerhappy-Cop/Oath of just-following-orders to get it, also Oath of Ancients grants Misty Step too, which makes Oath of Cop even worse) or Blur which gives enemies disadvantage on all attacks against you (you can get 2 2nd level spells if you switch out one of the 1st level spells) or even hold person (so again, don't go oath of cop) for the non-con BDSM enjoyers.

I started sorc and went oath of devotiin paladin all the way to lvl 7 before finishing the rest in sorc taking actor and an ask in my charisma to get it to 20 and eventually got my dexterity to 18 at the mirror the mirror that curses yo staying unarmored to leverage the natural armor using hold person by the end to face roll most combat with guaranteed smites. Its a hard multiclass to go wrong with. Bardadin is still probably my favorite combo though.

I think 7 oathbreaker and 5 lock is probably a little better. Getting 3x Cha as damage (pact of the blade, arcane synergy, aura of hate) is nuts.

Magic Missile cannot be Twinned. That is because you can already choose multiple targets with the spell. You could twin Chromatic Orb. You could twin Witch Bolt, Hold Person, Blight. As long as the original spell only can target one target..mit can be twinned.

I think you can go nova better with 20 chr 20+ str 5 pact of blade warlock/5whatever paladin/2 fighter. Use legendary greatsword get double str mod and also chr to damage from pact weapon have slots to smite the hell out of things with act 3 gear your stats can be 16 dex 20 chr 23 str 23 con. 3 attacks per turn hex damage and action surge more deadly with support casting haste and bloodlust elixers.

I'm honestly not too fond of a paladin sorcerer mix. I find that the dip doesn't equal the benefits you'd have by going pure of either class. Specifically Improved Divine Smite or 6th level spells you can spam.Paladin Warlock I see as a good mix because you pick up a third attack action and smite slots on a short rest refresh. Or Sorcerer/ 1 level of Wizard so you can use learn from scrolls and get basically every spell in game.

Is oathbreaker paladin match well with sorcerer class build? I ask this because I'm plan to go for defying Bhaal God Dark Urge playthrough.

Oh hey! I have a usefulish maybe comment, so about the split, i heard that 5th edition D&D splits round down but the game rounds up, so you're better off splitting on odds rather than evens? I don't know if that makes sense, but i think it means if you are going to split, split on your non-spell caster build on odds, so like 5 paladin 7 sorc? Sorry trying to be helpful and making a mess of it.

You definitely can! It just depends on whether you're comfortable having extra attack come that much later to your character or not!

You dismissing Zariel Tieflings because "paladin get those" smite spells kinda stung. Those racial smites are in addition to your class ones. That's an additional 2x Smites/day. The whole point of the Sorcadin build is to maximize our smiting potential, and those lean heavy into that idea.

So is paladin like the main class you dont get a companion built for? You get a fighter, a cleric, a rogue, a wizard,a warlock, a barbarian, and eventually a choice of druids all as companions. Is there a paladin companion I'm forgeting or missed? I guess sorc too, just considered you could switch the wizard for that.

I hoped this will be a good build as I'm currently using Storm sorcerer/Tempest Cleric and Sword Bard/Paladin and I was curious about synergy between Paladin and Sorcerer. Sadly I was disappointed as you just summed up basic information everyone can find on Wiki, no synergy tips or ultimacy tips present. Outcome is a versatile character, but not a strong one (compare the combinations listed above I'm already using). And you also did couple of mistakes: 1. If you intend to use Heavy Armor, 8 DEX is enough because that -1AC penalty, you would normally get, is also nullified by Heavy armor. 2. The reason you haven't found a Constitution Saving throw bonus anywhere is because you didn't get it. Characters got Saving throw proficiency only from main class, not from multiclassing. Your main class is Paladin. It means Saving throw proficiencies in Wisdom and Charisma. Multiclassing to Sorcerer don't give you extra proficiency in Constitution Saving throw. 3. You can't twin Magic Missle as it's already multitarget spell and Twinned spell Metamagic works only on single target spells.

You could dump strength and use potions of hill giant strength which boosts your strength to 21 and last until a long rest. That will free up your ability points up for something else.

"I feel like dragonborn doesn't get enough love" Despite dragonborn, mechanically, being the weakest race in the game by far (no darkvision, no proficiencies, but you get a shitty attack, and a damage type resistance) they're one of the most played races. Compare that to gith who get some cool new trick at basically every level yet almost nobody plays them cause the men look like crackheads mimicking frogs and so do the women, just to a lesser degree.
